QUESTIONS: ITEM NO. 4.20: Inquiry: During a site visit I noticed above the drop ceiling in various

locations / floors, that sections of drywall covering the wooden floor joist is missing. Will the drywall be patched / replaced / installed to achieve the correct rating or should sprinkler protection be installed throughout above ceiling?

Response: Bidders shall include in their bid 1,000 sf of 1/2” gyp. bd. to be patched above the ceiling of the 3rd floor of 120 W. Washington St. Sprinkler heads shall be turned up to include the exposed wood structure above the ceiling on the 2nd floor east side of 120 W. Washington Street.

ITEM NO. 4.21: Inquiry: In Room #113 Comm. Mtg. Room, there is a raised platform. That room is to receive carpet tile. We need a drawing showing how to treat the step edge and riser. You can’t bend carpet tile over the step edge.

Response: The floor finish at the raised platform will be broadloom carpet in the same line as the specified carpet tile.

ITEM NO. 4.22: Inquiry: When may we expect a schedule for the Roller Shades 12498? The specification states (TBD).

The stainless steel rail has been addressed in this Addendum.

ITEM NO. 4.24: Inquiry: The “Old Section” of the building, at the pre-bid walk thru, it was mentioned that areas to receive VCT and Carpet would need new ¼” underlayment. We need a spec for the desired underlayment.

Response: Areas scheduled to receive carpet or VCT on existing wood framed substrates shall be overlayed with 1/8” luan sheathing and prepared in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Areas scheduled to receive ceramic/porcelain tile shall be prepared in accordance with Section 09310.

ITEM NO. 4.31: Inquiry: Identify the parking and dumpster locations for the GC and

sub-contractors. Response: Contractor parking/ staging area is indicated in Section 01500, Article 1.12.

ITEM NO. 4.32: Inquiry: Drawing A1.1 shows using wall type W-7 at exterior of room

number 1406. Wall schedule has no wall type W-7 please provide. Response: This has been addressed in this Addendum.

ITEM NO. 4.33: Inquiry: Are roller shades pockets to be located at each window?

Response: No. Fascias are required per this Addendum. ITEM NO. 4.34: Inquiry: At Alt for window glazing will there need to be window

pockets and shades? Response: No. The alternate is for curtainwall and glazing only.

ITEM NO. 4.35: Inquiry: The answer 3.36 in Addendum 3 is not sufficient. The

question was if the drawings would be provided pre-bid for use in bidding the project. Having them after the fact for the design and permit portion does not resolve trying to clarify what is existing to price the project. We should be provided an as built of the existing above ceiling conditions or you need to guarantee a minimum of 18” clear above ceiling to be assumed in our bid to make this work. It is not realistic to expect a subcontractor (or GC) to have to spend days with several people doing an above ceiling survey to determine the routes they need to take to make the system work and avoid existing conditions. This would be impossible to do with only (2) 1 hour walkthroughs of the project.

Response: CAD files of only the building plans have been developed. There are no Building Sections or Wall Sections available. Assume there is adequate clearance above the ceiling for installation of the sprinkler system. If field conditions do not permit installation, the sprinkler design will have to be modified accordingly.

ITEM NO. 4.36: Inquiry: The fact that you plan to occupy the spaces where we are to

run new sprinkler and fire alarm, much less the Alternate price which calls for the removal and reinstallation of the aluminum windows, it is not very realistic for these areas to remain occupied. Can you please define better how this coordination is to occur.

Response: Work will need to occur in the occupied spaces outside of normal business hours.

ITEM NO. 4.37: Inquiry: Considering that the majority of the ceilings in the occupied

areas look brand new, what percentage of ceiling tile should we figure replacing for the reinstallation of what we will have to demo to make this

Page 7: PURCHASING DEPARTMENT DIVISION OF BUDGET & FINANCEwashco-md.net/purchasing/pdf/PUR-1261/PUR-1261_add4.pdf · PURCHASING DEPARTMENT DIVISION OF BUDGET & FINANCE PUR-1261 . ADDENDUM

work occur. Will the fire marshall allow these spaces to remain occupied when we will likely be removing large areas of ceiling to perform this work?

Response: Assume that all of the ceiling tile will need to be replaced. ITEM NO. 4.38: Inquiry: Will the bid date on this project be extended. There is not

near enough time to properly evaluate this project to have it bid when scheduled. A minimum of two additional weeks would be required.

Response: There is no plan to extend the bid date at this time. ITEM NO. 4.39: Inquiry: Who will be relocating the existing free-standing safes that are

in the new space 1302A – Storage? Response: The free standing safes are to be removed & disposed of by the Contractor.

ITEM NO. 4.40: Inquiry: Please provide the existing terrazzo layout that is to remain so

we can figure which areas we need to fill. Most of these areas are presently covered up by carpet and can not be evaluated.

Response: The limits of the existing terrazzo according to our field survey are indicated on the demolition plan (D1.1) by note #16. Areas which need to be filled are represented by notes #3 and #17.

ITEM NO. 4.41: Inquiry: Are we to remove all the filler board and pour back at the first

floor level. Many places have been patched. If so, these areas need to be identified to determine quantities.

Response: Areas which need to be filled are represented by notes #3 and #17.

ITEM NO. 4.42: Inquiry: Is glycol also required in the chiller system, and if so, what

should we calculate for the amount in the existing building? Response: The existing chiller does not contain glycol.

ITEM NO. 4.43: Inquiry: Please provide the pocket schedule addressed in the Roller

Shade specification. We cannot determine which windows are to receive this condition.

Response: This has been addressed in this Addendum.
