HISTORY
The New York State Assembly &Senate Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force
was ounded in 1987 by Puerto Ricanlegislators who made it their personalcommitment to ocus on the needs andconcerns o the States growingHispanic Community.
In the beginning the Task Force consistedo 7 elected ofcials; it has now grown to19 legislators. These members are currentlyfghting or the rights and needs o theHispanic Community. They continueto uphold their mission to increase theparticipation o the Hispanic Community
in the public policy making process.
OUR MISSION
Hispanics are the largest growing populationin New York State and the least representedin policy making positions.
In recent years, the Hispanic populationhas grown both in number and stature. The
2011 census data revealed that the HispanicPopulation in New York State grew by over19% rom the last census data.
We must work together to ensure that ourpeople are represented in all aspects ogovernment, business, and community.
Educating our youth and preparing them orcollege/careers is o vital importance or theiruture and our economy.
Hispanics ace more serious health issuesthan non-Hispanics and because o this wemust ocus on prevention and education andnot respond with crisis reactionmedical treatment.
