God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble .

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling .

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns .

The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress .

Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth.

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.

“Be still, and know that I am God I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

WCONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .EIN’ FESTE BURG

O come, see what the Lord has done: His desolations brought on earth; On earth He puts an end to wars, Breaks bow and spear, and chariots burn. Be still! Know I am God. Exalted o’er all men, exalted o’er all earth. The Lord of hosts with us! Our fortress strong is Jacob’s God. Amen.

Heavenly Lord, Your name is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe, for You are the only refuge in troubled times. Yet, we confess that our fears are legion. We are afraid to love, afraid to commit ourselves, afraid of what others think, afraid of rejection, afraid of being hurt, afraid of failure, and afraid of what the future might bring. Show us that Jesus Christ is Your protection of us, Your presence with us, and Your power in us. Forgive us for the glory of our Savior’s name, Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.

Worship ReflectionsAs you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worship

Today is Reformation Sunday when we remember and celebrate Martin Luther nailing his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Church on October 31, 1517 .At the core, we owe an immense debt of gratitude to him and the other Reformers for their courageous efforts in recovering the biblical gospel: that God accepts us sinners not because of any work or supposed merit of our own, but because of His own mercy, on the basis of Christ’s finished work in which by grace we put our trust . Reformation Sunday helps to crystallize the essence of the biblical gospel that we cherish at Second . You can summarize it in three words: Christ saves sinners (I Timothy 1:15) . Christ saves sinners from beginning to end all by His grace alone . If that is true, then our lives should be distinctly marked by gratitude, humility and joy .May the Lord so transform us that our lives would be more characterized by receiving a gift with open hands rather than keeping rules with clenched fists. If this happens, all of us will grow in gratitude, humility, and joy. Don’t let this Reformation Day pass without praying this for yourself, your family, and your church!

Worship ReflectionsAs you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worship

and silence your mobile devices.

WPSALTER LESSON: Psalm 46 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Bill Jorgensen (8:15) Haley Overcast (11:00)

Amen.

WPRAYER OF ADORATION

Rest in God’s ComfortCORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Heavenly Lord, Your name is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe, for You are the only refuge in troubled times. Yet, we confess that our fears are legion. We are afraid to love, afraid to commit ourselves, afraid of what others think, afraid of rejection, afraid of being hurt, afraid of failure, and afraid of what the future might bring. Show us that Jesus Christ is Your protection of us, Your presence with us, and Your power in us. Forgive us for the glory of our Savior’s name, Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.

That I belong — body and soul, in life and in death — to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; he protects me so well that, without the will of my Father in heaven, not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
