    > Live music by Los Czols (The Mockingbirds), a Mexican American roots ba nd heavily inuenced by Tejanomusic, country music, rock and roll, and traditional Mexican regional music such as Son Jarocho and boleros.

    > Bridge Walkers, an interactive audio and video installation created by San Franciscobased lmmaker and installationartist Catherine Herrera, a Cultural Encounters Commissions ar tist. Hamon Tower (9th oor), 6:008:30 p.m.

    > Lawrc Colaco will be producing live screen printing. Missi on Cultural Center is providing a curated videocollection from its exhibition DF Live music by Cascada d Flors. With its talent and passion for the rich cultural heritageof Mexico and Cuba, Casc ada de Flores has elicited an extraordinary response from diverseaudiences, media, and fellow musicians. In addition to exquisite, emotive guitar melodies,much of their repertoire features vocal harmonies that hark back to the golden age of song in Mexico and Cuba and the music of Las Hermanas Padilla, Mendoza, and the duo of Mara Teresa Vera and Lorenzo Hierrezuelo.

    CoLoRes OrGaniCos!provides museum visitors with an opportunity

    to learn the indigenous creative process of making colors from

    natural elements: water, earth, air, re, sand, vegetables, fruits,

    owers, trees, sea, minerals, and animals. Visitors of all ages can

    engage in hands-on making of pigments, painting, and observing

    the techniques of current paintings in progress by the artist. Comevisit the artist s environment, Mi Casa, lled with paintings musical

    instruments, fotos, musica, videos, and books.

    Every month the museum invites artists to install and demonstrate their art form at the de Young. This interactive program enables visitors to meet artists and gives the artists an opportunity to work with the public. Artists working in various media are encouraged to apply.

    This symposium will examine the themes of the special exhibition Balenciaga and

    Spain: the power of the Spanish imagination, and of its cultural and ar tistic history

    on the work of one of the 20th centurys greatest designers, Cris tbal Balenciaga.

    > Speakers include Hamsh bowls, a fashion journalist, the European editorat large for the American edition of Vogue, and guest curator of Balenciaga

    and Spain. Mr Arzallz specializes in the history of dress and fa shion

    at the Courtauld Institute of Art. pamla Gol, chief curator of the Muse

    de la Mode et du Textile at the Louvre in Paris, is an internationally renowned

    gure in the fashion industry with extensive historical knowledge of cultural

    and design issues. Lords Fo is associate professor in the department

    of History of Ar t and in the M.A . program for Fashion and Textile Studies

    at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

    Cultural Encounters at the de Young is a series of interconnected programs developed in collaboration with community arts organizations and performing and visual artists. These programs are designed to attract new and diverse audiences to the museum while creating exciting educational and artistic possibilities from the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Friday Nights at the de Young is part of the Fine Arts Museums Cultural Encounters initiative, generously funded by The James Irvine Foundation, The Wallace Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation.
