ThePTP-8080isaGPSNetworkTimeServer(NTS)forPTPIEEE1588thatprovidessecure,accurateandreliabletimesynchronizationfornetworksandoffersintegratedfullymanagednetworkswitchcapabilitiesfor8(10/100/1000BASE)GigabitEthernetports.ThePTP-8080canbeusedfordatacenters,testfacilities,militaryinstallations,federalormunicipalagencies,financialservicesandtechnologyfirms,andmanyotherenterpriseswhichneedprecisiontimingtosupporttheirnetworkoperations.ThePTP-8080providesexacttimeoverEtherneteitherbasedonthewell-establishedNTP/SNTPprotocolorPTPaccordingtoIEEE1588Std2008.ItnotonlyprovidesNTPandPTPtimingcapabilities,butalsoavarietyofothertimecodesandsignals,suchasGPSemulationandIRIG-B.Theunitalsoprovidesbackwardscompatibilityforoldertimingsystems.SuchinterfacesarenormallyprovidedonthenetworkboundariesintegratedonrelevantSNTPclientsorPTPSlaveClocksplatforms.ThePTP-8080isusedforapplicationsthatrequirereliabletimingtoaccuratelysynchronizenetworks,systems,anddevicesandtologeventswithlegallytraceabletime.ThePTP-8080Seriesoffersabroadportfoliooffeatures,includingnetworkmasterclocks(NTPorPTP),monitoringandmanagementcapabilities,andacompletesoftwarepackagetodeliverhighperformancetimingfornetworkapplicationsanddevices.ThePTP-8080iseasy-to-installandisfullyconfigurabletocustomizefeatures,interfaces,portsandprotocolstoyourneeds.Thesefeaturesincluderemoteloginandfiletransfercapabilities,whichprovidetheutmostsecurityusingindustrystandardinterfaces.Afull-suiteofnetworkprotocolsincludesSNMPcapability,supportforenterprisedirectoryserverstoauthenticateusers,internalandexternalloggingandmonitoringoferrormessagesthroughSyslog,DHCPforinstallationconvenience,andIPv4.ThePTP-8080isareliableandaccurateNTPandPTPGrandMasterClockfulfillingtheIEEE1588Std2002(v1)andIEEE1588Std2008(v2).ThePTP-8080containsabuilt-instate-of-the-artGPSreceiverthatisusedasthetimebasefortheGMCclock.ThePTP-8080platformsupports2-stepclockmodesandeitherE2EorP2Pasthe


delaymechanism.ThismeansthatallpossiblePTPprofilescanbesupported.TheplatformmaximizesPTPperformancesinceallcriticalPTPfunctionsareimplementedinhardware.TheswitchfunctionalityinthePTP-8080seriesofferfullmanagementbasedonHTTP,telnet,CLIorSNMP.NetworkRedundancyisachievedbasedontheRSTPprotocol.Theunitoffersawideoperatingtemperaturerange:[-40°Fto158°F]/[-40°Cto70°C].

2.1 Installation

2.1.1 MountingThePTP-8080canbeinstalledintoa19”rackmountcabinetusingrackslides.Slidesareinstalledusing10-32UNF-2Bhardware.OptionalRackMountSlides:P/N002000123,SLIDE,RACK,24",21"TRAVEL,85LBP/N002000150,SLIDE,RACK,28",27"TRAVEL,80LBOriginalManufacturer:GeneralDevicesChassisTrakTypeC300.

2.1.2 PowerInsertthepowercordofthePTP-8080intoanelectricalsockettopoweruptheunit.If dual redundant power is required, connect both power sources to independentpowersources.

2.1.3 EthernetConnectoneendofanEthernetpatchcabletoEthernetport#1locatedontheFrontoftheunit.ConnecttheotherendoftheEthernetcabletothenetworkwithanEthernethuborswitch.Connecttheadditionalportstothenetworkasneeded.

3 Configuration

3.1 InitialSetup

3.1.1 InstallingtheDiscoveryUtilityForinformationoninstallingorusingtheDiscoverysoftwareprovidedwiththePTP-8080,pleaseseetheusermanualfortheDiscoveryapplication.(P/N900000157)

3.1.2 ConnectingtothePTP-8080EitherusetheDiscoveryutility,orentertheIPAddressofthePTP-8080retrievedviatheDiscoveryutilityintoawebbrowserwindow;thiswillopenthePTP-8080controlwebpage.

3.2 Status

3.2.1 SystemInformationTheSystemInformationpageunderthestatusfolderlistsinventoryinformationabouttheunit,aswellasagraphicalrepresentationofwhichEthernetportsarecurrentlybeingused.AnEthernetportthatiscoloredblackindicatesthatthereisnocableconnectedtothem.AnEthernetportthatiscoloredgreenindicatesthatthereiscurrentlyacableconnectedtoitanditissuccessfullyconnectedtoanetwork.

3.3.1 SystemInformationTheSystemInformationconfigurationpageallowstheusertoeditinformationfieldsforthepurposesofunitidentification.Editablefieldsinclude:SystemName,SystemLocation,SystemContact,andInventoryID.ThesefieldsaredisplayedontheSystemInformationStatuspage,andareintendedforuseinidentifyingwhichphysicalunitisconnectedwhenaccessedoveranetwork.

3.3.2 IPSettingsTheIPSettingspageallowstheusertoadjusttheIPaddress,SubnetMaskandGatewayaddressofthePTP-8080,aswellastheoptiontoenableDHCP.BrandywineCommunicationsrecommendstheuseofaStaticIPaddressforeaseofmanagementpurposes.PleasenotethatthePTP-8080usestwoIPaddresses,oneforthenetworkswitch,whichisnotaccessiblefortheuser,andaseparateoneforthePTPandwebserver.BoththePTPserverandthenetworkswitchmustbeinthesamesubnetsothatbothpartsofthePTP-8080cantalktoeachother.

3.3.3 PTPSettingsThePTPSettingspageallowstheusetoadjustandconfigurethePTP-8080’sPTPservice.MoredetailedinformationabouteachofthesesettingscanbefoundbyusingthePTP-8080’sbuiltinhelpmenu.Twostep:SettingthistoTRUErunsthePTPclockintwostepmode.OncertainversionsofthePTP-8080,thiscanbedisabledtoallowittoruninonestepmode.Priority1:ThisfieldisusedtodeterminetheprecedenceoftheavailablePTPservers,sothatPTPclientscancorrectlydetermineaGrandmaster.Thiscanbeanyvaluefrom0to255.Priority2:ThisfieldisusedtodeterminetheprecedenceoftheavailablePTPservers,sothatPTPclientscancorrectlydetermineaGrandmaster.Thiscanbeanyvaluefrom0to255.DomainNumber:Defaultsto0.ThisdetermineswhichPTPdomainthePTP-8080isoperatingin.Formostapplications,thisis0.Slaveonly:WhensettoTRUE,theunitwillonlyreceivetimefromanotherPTPsourceonthenetwork.IfthisvalueissettoTRUE,theclockcannevertaketheroleofanetworkgrandmaster.Syncinterval:DeterminestheintervalperiodinsecondsforhowfrequentlytheunitsynchronizeswithotherPTPsources.Announceinterval:DetermineshowfrequentlyinsecondsthePTP-8080announcestothenetworkthatitisanavailablePTPserverforclientstoconnectto.Delayrequestinterval:DeterminestheintervalinsecondsbetweendelayrequestmessagesgoingfromthePTPslavetothePTPmaster.Pathdelayrequestinterval:DetermineshowfrequentlyinsecondsthePTP-8080pollsthenetworktodeterminethepropagationdelayfromthePTP-8080toitspeerpartners.DelayresponselogMessageInterval:ThisisthevalueinsertedintologMessageIntervalofadelayresponsepacketgoingfromthemasterbacktotheslave.Notethatthisvalueisafunctionofthesyncintervalsinceitcannotbeslowerthan32timesthesyncintervalorfasterthanthesyncinterval.ThisparameteronlyhasmeaningwhenthePTP-8080operatesasthegrandmaster.DisableOrdinaryClock(TConly):WhenthisissettoTRUE,thePTP-8080willonlyoperateasaTCswitch,withnomasterorslavefunctionality.TimeSource:DeterminesthetimeinputsourceforthePTPservicetouse.ThiscaneitherbeGPS,IRIG,InternalOscillatororanotherPTPsourceonthenetwork.Pleasenotethatsettingtheunitto“ExternalGPS”orswitchittoadifferentsourcefrom“ExternalGPS”requiresarebootofthePTP-8080.UTCOffset:UsethisfieldtosettheoffsetfromUTCtimeinseconds.ThisisonlyvalidifthePTP-8080isrunningwiththeinternaloscillatorasavalidsource.PTPVersion:ThisfielddetermineswhatPTPversionthePTP-8080willuseinoperation.PleasenotthatPTPversiontranslationisnotsupportedbythePTP-8080andsothePTPversionsettingmustmatchtherestofthenetwork.DelayMechanism:Determineshowthepropagationdelayismeasured,eitherEndtoEnd(E2E)orPeertoPeer(P2P).
