Our first annual Gallop-a-Thon Fun Run was a huge success! A BIG thanks to the entire Chenoweth family for donating time, effort and money to our fall “fun” raiser! Not only did we meet our goal, we exceeded it! The kids were focused on fun physical activity and we now have the funds needed to start updating our school’s technology. We also celebrated Kentucky Kids’ Day lastweek with a visit from some very special U of Lathletes, who encouraged the children to strive for success. Each child also received a bookmark and a pencil to mark the day we celebrate our kids! Looking forward to this month we havethe Fall Festival on the 16th. Be sure to bringthe whole family out for this fun rain or shine event! We are also having our Scholastic Book Fair October 11 through the 15th. For parents, the book fair will also be open on the evenings of the parent/teacher conferences (October 13th and 14th). Be sure to stop by and check out the selections!
JCPS’ Gheens Institute for Innovation’s 2010 Creativity & Entrepreneurship Awards honored Mr. Russell Hockenbury. The awards celebrate the district’s most innovative pro-grams and “the creative minds behind them.” Mr. Hockenbury’s Chenoweth Film Fes-tival was selected for challenging students to collaborate on projects using digital video and film editing. According to JCPS, the Film

Festival challenged Fifth-grade students to work in small groups selecting a Kentucky Core Content-related topic. Students con-duct research, write a script, edit their mov-ie, and promote and market their film. Peers view the film at the Chenoweth Film Festival, and the films are used to supplement instruc-tion for future students at Chenoweth. The film festival is approaching its third year and was credited for increasing Che-noweth students’ Computer Application Skills Assessment (CASA) scores. For 2009-2010 Chenoweth received an 87% Total Technology Score (5th Highest Total Score among the 45 schools tested)Chenoweth student’s scores were the high-est in CLUSTER 6. Way to go, Mr. H!

Fall Festival FunOur Annual Fall Festival is Saturday, October 16th, Noon - 4:00 pm. It’s family fun for all ! We’ll have games, prizes & infl atables. Have familyphotos made with a beautiful fall backdrop and enjoy a lunch of burgers, hot dogs & chips. Our silent auction will be bigger & better than ever - but we need more donated items/services. Don’t be shy– think of the restaurants or stores you frequent and ask them for a tax deductible donation. All proceeds support our PTA’s great work at Chenoweth.Contact - Sabra Crockett at 893-5910 or [email protected] to volun-teer OR for donor tax receipts or silent auction questions contact Sharon Harrah at 386-8297 or [email protected]
Box TopsWe all shop for groceries, now turn those shopping trips into easy cash for Chenoweth, and encourage friends to do the same! All you need to do is clip and send them to school in an envelope with your student’s name on it.
The student who brings in themost boxtops in the fi rst 3 weeks of each month will be featured in the CHARGER, our PTA newsletter!

environmentalClub - NeW!
With the leadership of Mr. Henry, Mrs. Eklof and Mrs. Taylor, last month Chenoweth launched an environmental club open to 4th and 5th graders. The club meets on the 1st Thursday of every month right after school. More than 70 students signed up for the new club! During September the members went on a creek crawl and learned about the health of our local creeks and streams. Members of the club also helped separate and collect our recyclables to make our Gallop-a-Thon a zero-landfi ll event!
PLUS –It’s not too late to join the PTA!
