STORYLINE

CONFIRMATION BIAS

A confirmation bias is a type of cognitive bias that involves favoring information that confirms previously existing beliefs or biases.

CONCEPT USED

Bolin tells Hazel that you need to study because Bolin already know Hazel’s result are bad. As well as in contrast, Hazel tell Bolin that she does not need to study because she is already has previous information about her as an excellent student.

FIRST IMPRESSION

First impression is the first mental image of a person, when one person encounter with another one.

CONCEPT USED

The impression is made when the teacher ask student about the homework if she did it or not.

Believing that bad things happen to other people and that you are more likely to experience positive events in life.

OBTIMISTIC BIAS

The overconfidence barrier

The belief that own judgment or control is better or greater than it truly is.

CUASE

CONCEPT USED

Owing to Hazel cannot finish studying all chapter of social psychology, she has a thought to cheat in her exam. She feels that the teacher would not realize she cheat and bad things will not happen on her. So, she brings her notes into exam hall.

Use others as the standard by which compare ourselves.

CONCEPT USED

Bolin’s mother compare her daughter result with Hazel’s father. Bolin’s result is very good, she passed the exam with flying color. She looks down on Hazel because she did not get the good result.

Watching others ( models) engage in behaviors and then repeating those actions.

CONCEPT USED

Hazel observed way of study from Bolin. She realized that Bolin studied hard everyday and her time management is very good. Moreover, she pays attention when teacher teaching.
