Stop for a moment and recall the many types of body

coverings that God has made for His created works.

Did you name skin, hair, wool, feathers, shells, scales, and

even grass? God selected the most appropriate for each creature and for the earth

itself.

Many animals have hair. It’s warm, light and fitting protection against cold and water. For some it is long, thick, curly or shaggy. Others have very

short hair. Just think of the problems that birds, fish, insects, and animals

would have if their styles were constantly changing.

Whales have a two-foot-thick coat of blubber that not only provides warmth

but, being soft, more evenly distributes the intense pressure of water when the animal swims deep

down in the ocean. This diving suit is just right as a life preserver.

Consider the porcupine – a slow, relatively weak animal. Lacking

suitable claws and teeth for fighting, it is armed with quills that are excelled by nothing for defense. Those sharply barbed quills are sufficient to teach

almost any aggressive foe an unforgettable lesson.

Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let us

put on the armor of light.Romans 13:12 (last part)

Did you know that elephant hide is from one to one-and-a-half inches thick

in some places? What mosquito will bore through all that? As elephants

break through the dense jungle where they live, what better protection could

God have given them against the sharp thorn trees and bushes that

would tear a hide less thick and tough?

Grass is the covering God gave the earth to protect it from

erosion. Rain and melting snow would easily wash away far

more fertile soil if it were not for this beautiful protective

covering.

As the candle carving video shows, even candles require a covering. The carver works quickly to create all the decorations while the candle is still

soft. The final step is to dip the candle into an acrylic glaze to seal in the

decorations and protect the finish.

What is the element that God wants us to be adequately protected against? Sin.

What is the armor that He has provided? How do we receive it? It is Jesus’ gift to us when we accept Him as your Savior. Just as medieval knights put on their armor

daily, so we need to ask God for this protective coat each morning. The battle against the devil and sin is for real. But

with God’s armor, victory is assured.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the

breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the

hope of salvation.1 Thessalonians 5:8
