Prosper Eagles Mission Statement

Academic Excellence Plan Goals:

To grow and excel socially, academically, and athletically through the understanding and execution of the four core values.

1. Service to Others. 2. Honor the Team. 3. Belief in the Process. 4. Expecting Excellence.

1. Create a partnership between players, coaches, teachers, and guardians.

2. Passing is not enough. We expect at

minimum A’s and B’s from our players.

Prosper High School Facts • PHS won the coveted 2017 “Lone Star Cup.”

o The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. Honoring the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas, the UIL Lone Star Cup is open to all UIL participant high schools.

• PHS earns perennial “A” ratings in all categories

including Overall Performance, Student

Achievement, School Progress, and Closing Gaps. o These elite ratings place us at the top of the state rankings

for all measured categories.

• Over 75% of our students at PHS participate in

extracurricular activities. o This is the campus culture we are dedicated to maintaining

and growing here.

• PISD voted “#1 School in Collin County for Athletes.” o This is an honor given the elite athletic competition both

historically and currently in Collin County.

• PISD voted “Top 100 Best Places to Work in DFW”

3 Years in a Row. o This helps us attract and retain top-talent staff.

Plan of Action:

1. We will have weekly grade checks to identify all players with grades below 80%.

a. The academic coordinator will have the report printed by Monday morning at the latest.

b. Based on the report, position coaches will identify their players with grades below 80%.

2. Position Coaches will fill in only the player’s name on the grade sheets and deliver the sheets to the player.

a. In an effort to increase the player’s ownership and knowledge of their own grades, as well as improve their proficiency with Skyward, Google Classroom, etc., coaches will only fill in the player’s name. It will be the player’s responsibility to fill in all other information in partnership with their teacher.

3. Players will return the completed grade sheet to their position coaches by Wednesday morning.

a. Completed grade sheet will have a plan to improve grade (retest, turn in missing work, attend tutorials, etc.).

b. Players are allowed to attend tutorials as needed, but they are also expected to verify their attendance with that teacher.

c. For weeks starting on Tuesday, deadlines will be bumped back one day.

4. Corrective consequences will be issued the following Monday for grades that have not improved to 80% or above, and for missing or late grade sheets from the following week.

Basics of “No Pass, No Play.”

Must be passing all courses (except identified advanced

classes).

Students lose eligibility for a three-week period, which is

defined as 15 class days. Exception: one but only one of the

three school weeks may consist of only three or four class

days, provided the school has been dismissed for a scheduled

holiday period. Two class days does not constitute a school

week. Exception: Thanksgiving if schools are on holiday

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

School week begins at 12:01 a.m. on the first instructional day

of the calendar week and ends at the close of instruction on

the last instructional day of the calendar week (excluding

holidays).

Ineligible students must wait seven (7) calendar days after a

three-week evaluation period and the grading period to regain

eligibility.

Students may regain eligibility an unlimited number of times

throughout the school year. Passing means a minimum grade

of 70 on all courses (except identified advanced classes).

Note: Spring break can't be part of the 3-week evaluation

process. All students are eligible during spring break.

6

“Incomplete” Coding and Grade Changes

Under what conditions may a student receive an incomplete

grade and how does it affect eligibility?

A student with an “incomplete” grade is ineligible at the end of the seven-day grace period unless the “incomplete” was replaced with a passing grade prior to the end of the seven-day grace period. Students with an “incomplete” grade either within or beyond the end of the seven-day grace period may regain eligibility if the work is made up in accordance with district policy in regard to time allowed for make-up work and the conditions under which make-up work are allowed. Extra credit work or work (including re-test) turned in after the grading period or evaluation has ended may not be considered when determining a student’s eligibility for extracurricular activities.

Grade Changes

Can a student’s grade be changed for eligibility? After a failing grade has been recorded, the situations in which a student’s grade may be changed to passing and eligibility restored are only as follows:

(a) An examination or course grade issued by a classroom teacher is final and may not be changed unless the grade is arbitrary, erroneous, or not consistent with school district grading policy, as determined by the board of trustees.

(b) The board’s decision may not be appealed. Extra credit work or work (including retest) turned in after the grading period or evaluation has ended may not be considered when determining a student’s eligibility for extracurricular activities except in the case of an “incomplete” grade discussed above. According to Section 21(e), the superintendent of a member school district shall provide the district executive committee with full disclosure when a student’s grade, given by a teacher, is modified by an administrator in such a manner that affects UIL eligibility.

2021-22 Eligibility Calendar

This document is intended to bring clarity to the eligibility calendar for U.I.L participants. Specifically, be aware of the following

issues:

● Grace periods for academic eligibility are seven (7) calendar days after the evaluation, with the exception of holidays. ● Academic Eligibility is determined from nine-week grades, not semester grades. ● After the 1st six weeks academic eligibility check, students may only lose academic eligibility at the nine weeks grading report. ● Students can regain academic eligibility at the three weeks progress reports, and at the nine weeks grading report. ● All students are academically eligible during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break holidays. ● Following Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break holidays, ineligible students return to being ineligible until the next grade check and

grace period. ● All students are academically eligible through the summer. ● Total credits from the previous year determine the first six weeks eligibility for 10th-12th students. The 2nd year of high school, they need 5

credits. 3rd year = 10 credits. 4th year = 15 credits. For 7th-9th students, promotion to the next grade means they are eligible the first six weeks.
