It is so much easier to drive for- wards! Why? 3 General Task Your task consists of constructing a model for the steering of a car, investigating some special cases analytically w r t stability, and finally numerically investigate the general case. 4 Steps • Derive a mathematical model! This will be a (system of) ordinary differential equations. • Stability analysis using a linearized model • Compute trajectories under different steering assumptions! 1

2 BackgroundOne of the most challenging tasks for a beginner in car driving is the problem of back-wards manoevring in space-limited parking places. It is so much easier to drive for-wards! Why?

3 General TaskYour task consists of constructing a model for the steering of a car, investigating somespecial cases analytically w r t stability, and finally numerically investigate the generalcase.

4 Steps• Derive a mathematical model! This will be a (system of) ordinary differential

equations.

• Stability analysis using a linearized model

• Compute trajectories under different steering assumptions!
