The Silent Scene is Ben Spremulli, Duran Visek, Richie Arthur and Jeff Maurer. The band refers to themselves as an electro~house//indie~dance//pop band. What does that mean? “We want to revamp and reamp the whole four piece, two guitars, bass and drums format.” says Ben; “ We’re throwing in elements of EDM and indie dance to innovate and reinvent that sound...we are finding out where we, as a four piece band, belong in the electronic dance scene.”

Still Holding It Down!

Interview by Mark “MDot” BucannahEntrigue Magazine | Promotional 2014 7

MB: We’re gonna get right into the interview because I know you’re mad busy. You feel me, like you’re getting your career started and everything.

FTG: Let’s Do It!

MB: Alright! First I want to get to know you a bit, you know what I mean, as Fred. The whole world knows you as Fred the Godson already if not I’m sure they will by the end of the summer. (~Fred Laughs~) I know you got big things planned. I feel it in my bones. I know you’re coming off.

FTG: Yeah man! God willing. God is good, we’re gonna keep rocking so yes by the summer it should be real big.

MB: Growing up what type of artist did you admire as true lyricists? Better yet, what was the argument in your house between your brothers and sisters.Who did you feel were the true Lyricists at that time?

FTG: I mean, growing up I’m the oldest out of six, so my brothers and sisters, those weren’t really the people I was arguing with in my house. The argu-ments were with cousins and friends that came over. I always took to the artist that was more lyrical in my eyes.A lot of my friends would say, “yo Method Man is the illest rapper out”, and I love Method Man for his energy but I always took to a person like Jay-Z and Nas because of what they were saying and the way they were flipping the words. My attraction was to the lyrical rapper instead of the person that would send off energy and get the crowd crazy. I always took to the rapper that would say things that have me to sit there and it would stimulate my mind. That argument would last forever. You know what I’m saying? That’s the kind of rapper I like and that’s the kind of rapper they like and I would always have my point and they would always have their points too but you know I wasn’t hearing it so I try to always win my argument.

Lenny WilliamsStill In The Game

Interview by Mark BucannahEntrigue Magazine | Promotional 2014 11

Lenny Williams: The Interviewby Mark Bucannah

MB: Do you have a band that you regularly tour or perform with or do you use various bands?

LW: I have my own band and a lot of guys are from out here. My keyboard player is from Mississippi, a young guy, and he moved out here a few years ago and my drummer is a native Californian. I went to school with his mom and dad and the bass player is a good friend of the drummers and the guitar player is actually from Texas who has been living out here so I hooked up with him and sewed up a four piece band. We add horns sometime but that’s my primary band. Occasionally I might use another band but I would take my keyboard player with me. Generally I like to use my own band.

MB: For some that do not know, you were a lead singer of the group Tower of Power and although they had a few different lead singers, you were the one that boosted their recognition in the music industry. Do you keep in contact with some of the original members and do you get together to perform or even to a have jam sessions at home?

LW: We don’t perform together at all but I do keep in touch with a few of them like the guitar player, who moved to the Philippines. I used to keep in touch with “Skeet’ but he passed away about two years ago and I’m in some contact with Chester Thomson the keyboard player who actually left “Tower of Power” and went on the play for Carlos Santana for about twenty six years.

MB: A lot of our favorite artist from earlier years no longer write or perform music that we would love to hear from them but some artist such as Aretha Franklin, Charlie Wilson and yourself, the legendary Lenny Williams, are still delivering such quality music we can enjoy. What contributing factors keep you “Still in the Game”?

LW: I try to hang out with young musicians and see what they are doing and take a lesson from them. I would have them show me how to do this type of sound or the way they write songs. FULL ARTICLE AND INTERVIEW IN THE MARCH 2013 ISSUE OF ENTRIGUE MAGA-
