What is Animatronics?

Animatronics is the use of electronics and robotics in

the creation of puppets which simulate life.

It is a multi-disciplinary field which integrates anatomy,

robots, mechatronics and puppetry resulting in the

lifelike animation of any living or lifeless object.

How it began…. Animatronics made cinematic history long before digital

effects were around.

It was first introduced in movies by Walt Disney in 1963

Today it is used in films parallel with VFX, museums,

advertisements and many more.

human force

The mechanically driven character is remotely

controlled by RF (radio signals)

For small structure, electric motors, and for larger

structure we use hydraulics or pneumatics

To make the character lifelike, body artwork is essential

Clay, paint, latex, silicone, polyurethane rubber, plaster are the materials generally used

For creating body patterns, a set of molds made of durable epoxy is used

The characters are programmed to play their roles in

the respective scene

Their timing and control is handled with the help of

microcontroller

With the help of compliance, we can allow more faster,

more realistic movements without sacrificing control

over the character
