    Event AdDescription

    Objectives

*Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

    *Create a full-bleed design

*Use text boxes for layout in Word.

*Insert and edit images in Word.

    Process

For this project, I was able to come up with my own design, look, and group that would benet from the hosted event. I

chose an E3 even because of how much I enjoy gaming. I was able to use an image from a favorite magazine and game

that I personally follow. What I did was I aligned the title and the body text so that your eye could ow and read down

the page. I made sure that there would be enough white space to give the advertisement room to breathe without having

information congesting it. Along with the text, I feel that the bleeding image and the ow of Sam Fishers head and body

was another good way to align the advertisement to give it a good ow. I tried to also add and limit how much text I used

with only putting the most important information on the poster.

    Objectives

*Design a new project that takes at least 2 hours to complete.

    Process

This project took a long while to complete. I wanted to make sure that all of the needed information was appealing to the

eye, and had a good ow to it. I also wanted to make sure I added the logos of the band and the charity foundation that

was puttin the even on. I used photoshop to edit out the backgrounds of the picture so it ended up just being white for the

background. The other elements in the ad were used in Indesign by using the text box and placing in the pictures and mea-

suring the images just right to have them t the page.

    Objectives

*Size and crop the image. 6x6 resolution 150

*Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.

*Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.

*Desaturate the selected portion of the image.

*Use a lter or colorize a portion of the image.

*Document needs to be 8.511 150 resolution. Margins: top 2, sides 1.25 and bottom 3

    Process

This photo was taken by a high grade camera in my backyard. The camera was very difcult to work, but I was still able

to at least take a picture. I wanted to follow the rule of thirds and keep things simple so I placed the controller in the bot-

tom corner of the photo. I cropped the photo in Photoshop by using the crop tool to a 66 inch photo. I used the selection

tool, selected the controller, and used thecutout lter on it. The background was desaturized completely and was gray-

    scaled.

MontageDescription: This is a project I put together using two layered pictures and adding a masked layer

    to blend the images together.

    Programs/Tools Used: Photoshop

    Objectives:

    *Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

*Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. (Two or more images)

*Use lters. (Apply at least one)

    *Apply appropriate typography.

*Choosing good quality images. (Note background should be at least 16501275 pixels)*Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)

*Unifying a piece with a consistent theme

Process: I used two pictures from the internet of a video-game coming out at the end of this month. I used the picture with

the ships for the background. The background picture, I ltered by adding a blur to the majority of the image. I then used

the picture of Captain Edward Haythem as the picture I would add a mask layer to and blend him into the background.

The text choice was on that I felt was Pirate themed and thought t very well with the image. The text is a quote from

the game series that is often said throughout the series. I thought that setting up the image this way would be a good way

to show who the main protagonist of the game is, and would also give a good preview of the upcoming adventures. Visu-

ally, I still wanted to leave some blank space that wasnt lled, so that the picture didnt feel too crowded with distractions.

    LogosDescription

This is a logo project in which we were to create our own logos for a real, to be, or made up company. I chose to design

these logos for a friends band named the American Coyote. He gave me some of his ideas, and told me to use my free-

dom and creativity to come up with a logo for his band.

    Programs/Tools Used

    Objectives:

*Create a variety of logos to t a company or personal image (at least 3 new logos).

*Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs.

*Use only the tools of Illustrator. (No photos on logo page)

*Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 vertical page / .5 margins and add

the company name in simple type at the top of page.

    *Getting feedback from outside sources.

    Process

For this project, I aimed towards making a logo that would be able to t in both the look and the name of the group. I tried

to put as much patriotic colors into the logos as possible, giving it the American feel. I wanted to be able to let those

who saw the logos put together the theme of America and freedom without having to read anything. I wanted to also make

the logos simple and appealing to the eye, and follow a theme of old westerns. I hoped to be able to sow diversity in

having not one of the logos look or feel as if they were the same or had come from the same place. I wanted the diversityand aim to be friendly for making stickers, posters, patches etc. out of each one of the emblems.

    LetterheadDescription

This project was to create a stationary and business card for a company of our choosing. The company that I chose to

work with was the same company as last week the band American Coyote.

    Programs/Tools Used

    Indesign

    Objectives

*Create a new logo to t a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. (Don

use photos or live trace in your new logo)

*Design consistent layouts for a letterhead. Use your new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design.

    (Photos are okay on stationery.)

    *Letterhead: 8.5 x 11 (full-bleed optional, but trim only .125)

*Apply typography rules keeping small copy.

*Learning to keep things simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space.

*Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in

    phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

    Process

I created the new logo for the company in Illustrator. With the paint brush I created the paw image. The circle image

around the paw was created by using the circle tool and by enhancing its stroke. I liked the look of the American ag

and decided that it might be a good look and a way to pass out American ags to people. Instead of the stars in the agI simply replaced those with the logo of the band. I created the American ag by using the rectangle tool, and copying

and pasting the rectangles of the stripes to know I had the right sized stripe for each one. The stationary was created by

copying and pasting the logo of the paw print onto the letter sized image. I lowered the opacity of the image to give it a

watermark look. I wanted to keep the band name clear and visible so I placed that at the bottom of the page to keep the

    page looking professional.

    BrochureDescription

A brochure project for the band American Coyote. The brochure discusses the members, when and where the band origi-

    nated, and their background.

    Programs/Tools Used

    Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator

    Objectives

*Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

*Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure.*Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in

Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.)

*Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs.

*Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

    Process

I sized the document to its proper size, and then added the ruler lines to the document to indicate where the fold lines

would appear. This was used to simplify the layout process. I chose to have one fold in my project because I felt that it

would be simpler that way. For the images, because the band does not have any photos of them at this time, I was able to

just bring in past-created images that I have done for the band. I wanted to make the layout as simple and plain as possi-

ble. These images were created and made in the programs listed above. Each has elements of the band and were created to

best give the band its diversity and uniqueness.

    Objectives

*Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

*Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic ier layout.

*Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.*Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

    Process

For this project I rst started off with four different draft sketches of what I would want to do, and have this project look

like. Once I got to the computer, and was looking at my designs, I realized that I really wouldnt be using any of those.

After using the information provided, I was able to condense the most important information into what I would really

want and need to have on the advertisement. I wanted to have a good appealing title font, as well as a good contrasting

font for the body. I wanted not only the text, but also the images to ow visually. Having the proper ow, and alignment of

each peace adds a visual composition that lets your eyes see all that is on the page, without your eyes wandering all over

the page. After the nal touches were made and the layout was cleaned up, I was glad to know I would be able to make the

    deadline, and submit the project.

    Objectives

*Size (300 500 pixels )/optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. (Design a new logo, or use one from the

Logo/Stationery project, to feature on a web page.)

*Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content.

*Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Must include all required tags (Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta

charset (provided), & body. As well as tag that links to external style sheet. With in the body include h1, h2, p, ol or ul

(with li tags), img, hr, and a (link to blog) tags.)

*Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the Cascading Style Sheet (css)

*Identify hex colors for web design. (Find and use hex colors to match your logo)

*Compress multiple les in a zipped folder to attach as one le.

    Process

For this project, I was able to somewhat learn how to work programs that are used to create and edit web pages. I had to

change a lot of things to be able to get my web page to look like it is. I worked in Photoshp to resize the image/logo so

that it would best t in the online page well. I was able to nd a CSS draft and edited that to my ideas for the site. Gettingit to look how it does involved a lot of trial and error with having to link and match words and documents to each other.

Photoshop was also a great way to gure out which colors I would want to use for the border and wording. The codes for

those colors were then also added to the formatted program layout for the web page.
