Welcome to the beautiful city of Edinburgh for BSGAR 2018.
It is exactly 20 years since the first meeting in Manchester, and it is entirely appropriate that Dr Maria Sheridan, who was instrumental in setting up the Society, has this year been elected an Honorary Fellow of BSGAR. Congratulations Maria and thank you.
Dr Ian Zealley has worked closely with the BSGAR Committee and Nikki Lee from Creative Conferences to ensure success. I am grateful to all the speakers for their valuable contributions to what I am sure will be a great meeting. I would also like to thank Ian and colleagues for running the BSGAR small bowel MRI workshops over many years. The final workshop has now been delivered, and these have contributed greatly to raising standards across the UK and beyond.
I am delighted Dr Peter Rodgers has agreed to give the 2018 Richard Farrow Memorial lecture. Peter has made a huge contribution to BSGAR over many years, and his enthusiasm for bowel ultrasound is legendary, both in terms of clinical value and education of others.
Thank you to all our sponsors for their valued support, without which this meeting would not have taken place. Please try and find time to speak to them during the breaks.
Finally, I would personally like to thank the BSGAR Committee and Liz Jones, for all of their hard work and support over the last year. There will shortly be some new faces on the BSGAR committee, and I wish them all the very best. I also know BSGAR will be in safe hands with Andy Lowe at the helm.
Dr Ashley Roberts BSGAR President
It is an honour to welcome you all to my home town of Edinburgh.
Thank you for coming and I hope you enjoy the city as well as the BSGAR meeting itself. Edinburgh and BSGAR have a lot in common. They’re both friendly, they’re both just the right size, and they both combine the high brow and the less than high brow in perfect proportion.
It has been a pleasure working with the BSGAR Committee devising and organising a varied and topical scientific programme which I hope will prove interesting and perhaps even provoke some discussion and debate. Thanks also to Nikki and the Creative Conferences team for once again planning and organising the BSGAR meeting, the social events, and also the small bowel workshops. I also extend a special thank you to all of the speakers for their generosity and enthusiasm in accepting invitations to speak at the meeting.
I hope like me you are looking forward to the drinks reception at the DoubleTree Hilton on Wednesday night and to the dinner in the Grand Gallery at the National Museum of Scotland on Thursday night.
I really do hope you enjoy the social as well as the educational aspects of the meeting. Thank you so much for coming.
Dr Ian Zealley BSGAR 2018 Meeting President
all the very best. I also know BSGAR will be in safe hands with Andy Lowe at the helm.
