Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am privileged and honoured to invite delegates from all over the world to India to attend the 42nd World Congress of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) which will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, India from 19th to 24th November, 2017. The Congress will be hosted by the Armed Forces Medical Services, Ministry of Defence, India, in accordance with the statutes of the Secretariat General of the ICMM.
The central theme of the Congress is 'Military Medicine in Transition: Looking Ahead'. The broad subjects under the central theme are Terrain specific military medical support: challenges and solutions; Health protection and promotion in the military environment: experiences and best practices; Combat medical support: technological advances and implications; and Humanitarian aid and disaster relief: implications of a changing global scenario.
The congress will have simultaneous scientific sessions, poster presentations, round tables, panel discussions and workshops encompassing the broad themes. Eminent experts in the field of military medicine will deliver the keynote address and plenary talks.
New Delhi is a blend of multiple cultures and is a symbol of India's rich past and thriving present where the ancient and the modern converge seamlessly. It is a place that touches not only your mind but also your heart. The city offers the best of an ancient civilization and a young evolving nation to its visitors, bringing people closer and inspiring their thoughts.
This meeting will be a perfect opportunity for all nations to learn about the best practices of modern military medicine, exchange information, and become friends. It is time to celebrate this event in this global city.

The scientific committee of the 42nd ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine invites you to submit abstracts for presentation during the Scientific
sessions / Free Paper Sessions / Poster Sessions at the 42nd ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine. All abstracts need to be submitted online via the congress website.
All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the Scientific Committee and a decision emailed to the author. The scientific committee reserves the right to change submission for oral presentation to posters depending on the number, theme and quality of submissions.

Authors are requested to keep these broad themes in mind while submitting their abstracts. The congress will also have free papers and poster sessions where subjects outside the above broad themes can also be presented. All abstracts relevant to military medicine will receive equal and full consideration.
Criteria for Review of Abstracts: All abstracts will be subjected to blinded peer review by subject matter experts. The following general guidelines will be followed for the review:
v Relevance to Military Medicinev Originality of the Workv Clarity of Ideav Appropriate Study Design and Methodologyv Implications for Advancement of Knowledge and Practice of Military Medicinev Conflict of Interest and Ethical Issuesv All abstracts will be screened for plagiarism using appropriate software.v Authors must ensure that the abstract being submitted has not been published / presented
earlier nor is under consideration for the same elsewhere at the time of submission.v By submitting abstracts, authors grant the organizing committee the right to publish their
abstracts online and or in print as part of the congress proceedings.

Visas can be applied for in person or by post at the High Commission of India based in the country from where the delegate intends to depart for India. For attending the conference, a conference visa needs to be applied for.

Health Regulation : A valid yellow-fever certificate is mandatory for all individuals (including infants) who have been (even in transit) to Africa or South Africa or Papua New Guinea six days prior to their arrival for the congress. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. India does not require immunization against small pox or cholera.
Customs : Visitors are generally required to make a verbal identification of their baggage and declare foreign currency in excess of $10,000.
Climate/ Temperature : Due to its vast size, India has a varied climate and it is possible to travel at almost all times of year and find certain areas of the Subcontinent that are at their best. The country has a three season year - summer, monsoon and winter. Generally the best time to visit is during winter (November to February), although there are regional variations. The rainy season is from June to September. And the post-monsoon season, which is the north-east monsoon in South India, is from October-November. Summer (March to May) is hot everywhere, except in the hills.
Recommended Clothing : During the winter months of November to February, light woolen clothes are appropriate for travel in the plains of North India and heavy woolens for travel in the hills of North India. For the rest of the year, it can be very hot, so light, tropical clothing is advised. Raincoat or waterproof clothing is advisable throughout the monsoon season.

Currency: India's currency unit is the rupee (rs.), divided into 100 paisa (p). Delegates can convert foreign exchange into Indian rupees or vice versa at the travel desk at the conference venue.
Electricity: In India electricity supply is at 220 V, 50 Hz. Round pins (2 or 3) can fit in the power sockets. Adapters are generally available at all hotels.
Time ZoneIndia is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT, 4.5 hours behind Australian Eastern Time, and 10.5 hours ahead of American Eastern Standard Time.
Summer in Delhi is harsh - from April to June, the temperature climbs to more than 45°C and the heat continues in monsoon until October.
