    PROFILE OF THE PROVINCE

    I.  Population and Settlement 

     The Province of Guimaras has a population of 151,238 in 2007 census.

    It is the least populated province in e!ion "I. #ith a population densit$ of 250 persons per s% &m, it is the second smallest 'ne(t to )nti%ue* in terms of population densit$ in the re!ion. Guimaras also has the least annualpopulation !ro+th rate at 0.3 percent, +hich is lo+er than the re!ional andnational !ro+th rates -$ 0.2 and 1.11 percenta!e points, respectivel$.

    #ith the current !ro+th rate, the pro/ected total population andoverall densit$ of Guimaras at the end of 2013, are 15,875 and 2persons per s% &m, respectivel$, and at the end of the vision period '2035*are 15,88 and 32 persons per s% &m, respectivel$. This translates into anadditional population of 8,37 -$ 2013 or an avera!e increase of 1,0

    persons ever$ $ear. The population of Guimaras +ill li&el$ dou-le in sieafter 7 $ears or in 2081.

     A. Population Distribution Trends

       A. Topography and Slope

     The topo!raph$ of Guimaras Island varies from level to steepl$ slopin!,+ith land elevation ran!in! from 0 to nearl$ 300 meters a-ove sea level. ;t.?inulman, located in ;illan, i-una!, has the hi!hest elevation of 27meters a-ove mean sea level.

     The province of Guimaras is comprised of a mainland and clusters of small islands and islets.      The emplo$ment rate of Guimaras decreased -$ 1.5 percenta!e pointsfrom 2.30 percent in 2000 to 0.8 percent in 2003.

     The provincial emplo$ment rate in 2000 +as hi!her -$ 3. and 2.percenta!e points in the re!ional and national rates, respectivel$. Guimaras+as the second hi!hest province, ne(t to Aapi, in terms of emplo$ment ratein 2000. In 2003, Guimaras@ emplo$ment rate decreased -$ 1.50 percenta!epoints, and lo+er -$ 0.50 percenta!e point compared to the re!ionalavera!e. It ran&ed fourth to Aapi +hich had the hi!hest emplo$ment rate in2003.

      The results of the 6 reveal that the percenta!e distri-ution of households -$ 6I -$ %uartile and per municipalit$ as follo+sF i-una! hasthe hi!hest percenta!e, 33.3 percent, of households -elon!in! to the lo+estor :rst %uartile, 9n the other hand, uenavista has the least percenta!e +ith18.7 percent.       Bnder the current land use, Guimaras is the most sparsel$populated province in the re!ion +ith e(istin! -uilt4up areas accountin! for0.2 percent of the total provincial land area, +hile protection lands have the
