PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMME 2014-15
FOR RE LEADERS
AND OTHER STAFF
Diocese of Leeds
Office for Education and Schools
2
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to our Professional Development Programme 2014-2015.
I am pleased to be able to share with you the new programme to be offered through the Diocese of Leeds this new academic year. As always, we have listened to what people found useful in previous courses and, after consultation, tailored this year’s courses to meet the needs that have been identified.
There is a breadth of formation available here and, despite time and economic constraints, it is very important that we enable and encourage the continuing development of our school staff which, in turn, will strengthen the Catholic identity and ethos of our schools.
Among these courses there is something for everyone, so I hope there will be a good take up of the opportunities on offer, not least the chance for spiritual formation and reflection.
I hope the courses offered here will help all of us who work in and support Catholic education in our Diocese to ground ourselves more fully in the ‘true wisdom’ which comes from knowing God and the things of God as revealed through his Son, Jesus Christ, and passed on by his Church.
With best wishes,
Mgr John Wilson
Diocesan Administrator
Diocese of Leeds
FOREWORD ‘Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good
stewards responsible for all these different graces of God, put
yourselves at the service of others.’ 1 Peter 4:10
I am pleased to present the Diocesan CPD programme for
schools, academies and colleges for 2014-15. We have continued
to build on the range of courses and events designed to support
staff, and governors in their work in our family of Catholic
schools and this years brochure includes over 70 events. This
year we are pleased that in partnership with Leeds Trinity
University we are able to offer accredited courses that may be
combined to gain credits towards additional qualifications
including diploma, post graduate certificate and masters level.
The Diocesan programme focuses upon the development of staff
and governors within the context of a Catholic school. There is
an expectation that all governors no matter how experienced
should undertake training in order to be effective in their role so
there is an increased range of training and briefing/network
events. Together with the newly accredited teaching schools in
the Diocese, St Mary’s Horsforth and St Joseph’s Bingley for the
Bradford and Keighley Catholic partnership, we will look to
develop further courses and promote good practice. Additional
events will be notified to schools during the year.
Most schools have supported the Diocesan Contribution
Scheme, so for those the CPD on offer is free including governor
events subject to accommodation and subsistence where
applicable. We are also grateful for funding from the National
College of Teaching and Leadership to support the development
of aspiring leaders and new headteachers and Carnegie Leaders
in Learning.
