+Genre

Genre is news

Leading story: these are found at the beginning of the radio cast. They inform listeners about things that are happening in the world or in the local area.

Feature articles: these explore news stories in more depth. They may be triggered by a story that has been in the news for a while. The purpose of a feature is not just to tell you what has happened, but to explore or analyze the reasons why.

Editorials, columns and opinion pieces: these are pieces by 'personality' writers. They might be there to inform (because the writer's expert opinion is valued), or they might be there to entertain (because the writer has a comic or interesting way of describing everyday life).

+Sub Genre Sub-genre: Crime

The simplest background stories for crime reporters are general features about crime

Meaning features on such things like the rise in burglaries, why psychologists think more rapes happen in hot weather, how people can protect their homes from thieves during the holidays.

I can also write background features on specific cases. I can do this by interviewing people involved in the crime. This helps people to understand their society and perhaps avoid similar tragedies.

+I found a story similar to mine. I highlighted and annotated it. This helped me recognise the structure which was used in the story.

their communications services and are protected from scams and sharp practices, while ensuring that competition can thrive.

Ofcom operates under a number of Acts of Parliament, including in particular the Communications Act 2003. Ofcom must act within the powers and duties set for it by Parliament in legislation.

The Communications Act says that Ofcom’s principal duty is to further the interests of citizens and of consumers, where appropriate by promoting competition. Meeting this duty is at the heart of everything we do.
