1. Title of the school’s programme

Introducing animation since early (Produce short animation film as student’s project for teaching Descriptive Text material in English class)

2. Summary of the programme (a half to one page A4)

Economy creative is needed to students for fostering their future. One thing that I can do is introducing animation to them. So, I make and arrange the programme that can support their ability in making animation. I hope my activity can give the description about how animation made, and I hope in future one of them can become an animator or graphic designer. So, I often use the media when I teach them.

I think the programme is very simple. As the English teacher I try to improve the student’s skill not only mastery English but also ICT. Basically I am an English teacher and I teach class 8, but in this school I have other responsible to teach ICT lesson in class 9 (nine). I teach computer animation lesson to make short animation film. I use the best product of class nine to teach English material in class 8, it is Descriptive Text.

Descriptive Text is one of English materials. The goal of this material is make the student clear about how to describe person, place and thing. There is a relationship between film product and English material. After watching film they can describe about people, place and things shown in the film.

The programme is combination two subjects, there are English and ICT. In this article I try to explain the student’s role before join this programme. The students who participate in this programme are the students in class 9. Here I want to describe about my programme.

A. Using media in teaching the English Class (Class 8) As regularly in our school, the students join the English class. They learn about some materials that related with some competencies that they must mastery. They learn English since in the seventh year of Junior high school. The materials in the eighth class are development of materials in seventh class of junior high school. One of the materials is about Descriptive Text. The purpose of this text is the students must able to describe about the person, place and things. Today is global era. The students must mastery English well, because it is one of the international languages in the world. The students not only can write English but also they must mastery speaking skill well. Media in teaching learning process is very important. I often use the media for teaching the students. The media is very useful to make students clear to my explanation. The media that I use is combination between English material and animation. Beside make the students clear to my material, using animation in my teaching learning, make the students interested to my materials. They don’t feel bored during join in my class.

B. Teaching computer animation in the ICT Class (Class 9) The research has shown that ICT can lead in repairing the students learning methods and it can produce for the better teaching methods. Using Multimedia especially animation make the students more interested to my presentation.

The students must join many subjects in my school. There are 11 subjects in one year. The materials for ICT is not only learning about Microsoft Office (Ms. Word or Ms. Excel) but also introducing about Animation software. One of the topics or materials in class 9 is making short animation film using Muvizu software. For each class there are some groups, and I use the good animation film as media for teaching the students. C. Animation Film in Learning English (introducing animation) Animation film as media in English teaching learning process is very attractive. Using this media make the teacher easily to explain the material. In a research conclude how important animation to increase the student’s motivation in learning process. Some of the student’s products are very good. In teaching English process, I usually show this short animation film to the students before beginning the lesson. After they watch the film, the students try to describe some people, place or things in the film. If they want to copy my media they just give me a flash disc or blank CD, and I will copy it. So, the students can learn English by his/her self at home.

3. Background information or reasons why the school created this programme Information Of Communication Technology in global era is very needed to support the

effectiveness and quality in educational process. ICT based learning as interaction management and education administration that can used by teachers or students to increase the quality, effectiveness and education access.

The development of ICT in Indonesia is not maximal, especially in education. Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand are better in using ICT for education. There are some problem in Indonesia society especially educators and professional education for utilizing ICT in formal or non-formal education. The main problems are related to the wisdom, standardization, network infrastructure and content in education environment.

Seeing this condition, the school has programme to increase the educators or teachers to teach using multimedia device. To reach these goals, the school holds some in house training to increase the teacher’s ability in using computer for teaching in class. The other reason there are many students have laptop that they bring every day in learning process. So that, as the teacher I hope they can mastery the computer knowledge well, it is not only typing but also create something related with education especially animation.

4. Objectives/goals of the programmeme

The collaboration both English and ICT is to produce student’s product, and after that the student’s product will be used as media to teach them. They make the film animation and after they watch the film, the teacher will discuss about English material (Descriptive Text). Using media in teaching learning process is very important. It can produce many advantages to reach the goals and the students will fell satisfied when join the learning process. The goals of using ICT as media are:

a. make the English learning process easily b. increase the effectiveness learning process c. keeping the relevance between material and goal d. keeping the student’s concentration in teaching learning process

The benefit of using media in class, such as: a. The learning more attractive for students so it can add the student’s motivation b. The students will be clear to understand the materials and they can mastery it well c. The various methods will be found in this class when the teacher using ICT

media. It is not only verbal communication and the student will not bore. d. This programme is use to introduce the student in multimedia especially in

making animation film. e. The student center will be found in this class. They are not only listening to the

teacher’s explanation, but they can observe, questioning, experimenting, and communicating.

5. Core competencies of students (e.g. knowledge and understanding, cognitive skills, non-

cognitive skills and behavioural capacities) that the school aims for within the programmeme.

The teacher always prepares the material or goal in the beginning of year academic. It is to help teacher to get good student’s achievement.

Here the English competencies that related with the programme, it is for class 8.

1. Standart Competence: To understand the meaning in oral functional text and simple short monologue of

descriptive and recount to have interaction with others. 2. Basic Competence : To respond the meaning of simple short monologue accurately, fluently, and with

intonation to interact with others in descriptive and recount 3. Goal: To identify informaton/meaning from the text of descriptive dan recount To identify

the functional and rethorical steps of text of descriptive and recount. Here the computer animation competencies that related with the programme, it is for class 9. Standar Kompetensi :

Memanfaatkan perangkat lunak untuk membuat animasi

Kompetensi Dasar :

Menggunakan software Muvizu untuk melakukan editing film

Tujuan :

Siswa mampu:

a. Siswa mampu menggabungkan beberapa scene untuk sebuah film

b. Melakukan editing film dengan Muvizu

c. Melakukan finishing dalam proses editing film

6. Period of the time when the programmeme was or has been implemented

I implemented this programme for 1 semester. 7. Activities (Actions and strategies of implementation)

The first I doubted when I started this project, because I think it is impossible this project will be done by class 9 of Junior High School. After six months, I was surprised that the results of the project are very satisfied. I was happy about it. Here I want to tell about my activity how I ran my programme.

I told that in this school I have two responsible in teaching the students. First, teaching English for Class 8 and teaching ICT for Class 9. In my opinion, I live in digital generation and in front of the students I often using computer device to teach them as my media.

In one week I teach English 4 hours. Most of students in my school think that English is difficult lesson. Seeing this condition I make some media to make my students interested to English. I combine my media with animation, and I proved that using media will increase the student’s motivation in studying English.

I called my media as An Interactive English Learning Software. I made my media using Macromedia Flash 8. This software is very powerful. I combine English material and animation. Sometimes my students ask me how to make it.

After I teach English in Class 8, in other days I teach ICT in Class 9. In this grade I ask them to make some project that the result of the project will be used to teach English in Class 8. For each class there are some groups. The students of Class 9 make short animation film. I give the suggestion that in this film they must give the moral value.

After they finished in doing the project, I chose some good product. So, I can use it to become my additional media in teaching English.

One of English material is Descriptive Text. This material asks the student to able to describe person, place or things. After they watch this film, I ask them to describe what they watched in film.

8. Teaching and learning methodologies that the school applies for promoting the core

competencies as identified in number 5 There are so many professional teachers, but when they teach in the class only some

teachers that using computer device as their media. Most of them teach using lecture method. When we know the professional teacher must be creative.

The creative teacher usually has many methods in teaching learning process. Many methods make the teaching learning in the class easily and the material become more interesting. One of the effective methods is using animation film from student’s work.

When I teach Class 8, the material is Descriptive Text. I use my Media to teach them. It is very different when I teach them without Media, they fell bored because I just speech in front of them. But when I use my media, I can fell that they very interested when join in my class.

It is more effective and more interesting when I show them the animation film from their senior (Class 9). The students of Class 8 proud of their senior because they can produce the animation film by their selves. After they watch the film, so I ask them to describe what they saw in the film (characters, places or things).

The teaching learning process using animation film is suitable for students of Junior High School. The result is very good because it can increase the student’s motivation in class.

9. Partnership, community participation and international connection (Details of partners, their roles and activities that they have involved)

Social Media is very important for me. I often use it in teaching learning process. Sometimes I give the assignment, material and share something useful for my students. 1. Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/eko.sn.3) I and my students often share our work here. We can give comment to the project, and I Chose facebook because each student in my school has facebook account. It is make me easy when I want to give some information about their works. The people who included in here are students, teachers, and public society.

Sharing is our activity. I and my students often use this social media to share the project. After I get some assignments from my students, I often upload his or her work to YouTube. It is one ways to give the reward and motivation to my students. The people who included in here are students, teachers, and public society.

Besides the real class, I have virtual classroom too. We can share anything about lesson and student’s work. The people who included in here are students and teachers (domestic or foreign) only.

I think blog is my virtual house. The students can visit my blog to know the information given. I often use this to share anything about English and Computer Technology.

10. Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and summary of results Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms: My programme is introducing short animation film since early to students. At the beginning of the academic year, I always explain to my students what should we do during

one year. In my explanation there are some steps for doing my project. Many students ask me about how to do the project well. In the 9th Class, I start to introduce my programme, it is making short animation film and finally I will perform their film to their junior in class 8. Before they start the work, I ask them to make some groups. I give three months to do my project. The nine class students have computer animation class for two hours in a week. When they meet me in class, I always ask them about how far they finish their project. The students often ask me some additional tutorial or sharing about the project, but when they need my explanation they can share with me through my facebook, edmodo.com, or my blog. Three months later, it is time to gather the student’s work. I with the students watch together. The other class gives some suggestion to other class, we evaluate together. I want them become creative students. I hope the student’s critical will give the motivation for doing better. I said to them that the good work will be performed and used in English teaching learning in class 8 and the material is about Descriptive Text. So, their film will be watched by their juniors. Summary of results: I get some student’s work. I am proud of them, because the students in the 9th class able to produce the short animation film. So, some product will be burn in the CD and put in the display. If there are visitors in my school, they will know that the students able to make the animation film product.

11. Resources used for programme implementation A. Macromedia Flash 8

I design a media to teach my students using Macromedia Flash 8. This software used to make An English Learning Software. The combination between English material and animation produce amazing software to teach English class. The students fell satisfied when taught using this media. Besides teaching English, I introduce animation to my students.

B. Muvizu This software is taught in Class 9. The students can produce short animation film and the result of work will be used in teaching English in class 8.

12. Benefits/Impacts/ positive outcomes of the programmeme to students, school and

community There are many benefits when I run this programme. 1. Student First, it is very useful for the student class 9. They get some experience about how to make the animation film. I can open their mindset that economy creative is needed and they have good skill after they graduated from this school. Second, for students class 8. They can watch the product from their seniors so they have overview in making animation film. They can prepare to face the material in class 9 since early. 2. School

The school becomes famous because of its students product. Student can produce something different with other school. It became the student real product. 3. Community I think this is a good start for my students. In our community we can share to others. As a teacher, I can share it in my group about my methods or my student’s work.

13. Plan for sustainability and plan for the future

Plan for sustainability: After I know the student’s work, so I have some planning to make the better thing related this project. I make a proposal to ask some facilities to support the project. Plan for the future: The school has some programme to increase the achievements. After I get some student’s works, I suggest to head master to give attention to the programme like this. One of the planning is adding and upgrades the computer device. The school has some products from its students. It became a good achievement that the output or the students have skill in making animation after they graduated from the school.

14. List of attachments such as a copy of the school operational plan, learning/ teaching materials, samples of student worksheet, manual, etc. If the attached materials are in the local language, please provide a brief description in English language. The attachment 1: Academic Guidebook Academic Guidebook is one thing that teacher get in the beginning of the academic year. The content of this book is explanation about some school program. The teachers can read some school programs, so they can do their planning during one year. The list of subjects taught in Junior High School Of 2 Demak found in page 4, number 13. The attachment 2: Learning /Teaching Material of Descriptive Text This is the overview of the English material. I often use the program like this to teach the students. Using his media make students interested to the material, so the using this media, the motivation will increase. The attachment 3: The Guidebook of computer animation lesson The guidebook for animation lesson will be given to the students. In this book, they can learn about what should they do and mastery during one year. The content of this book is about how to edit the film and how to make animation film. This is one of school’s efforts to make students mastery Multimedia well.
