How does Prodeco Technologieskeep the price so affordable?

By eliminating the middleman, creating our ownin-house designs, seeking out the finest individualcomponents at the best possible price and thenpassing those savings along to the customer. Wedon’t just buy pre-made bikes from overseas, slap abattery and our name on them and then put themon the market. We research, test and specify each

individual part with painstakingcare, partnering with an all-starlineup of 22 established brandssuch as SRAM, Promax, Avid andKMC, all in the name of quality andgrowth-oriented pricing. We think itshows.

Where are ProdecoTechnologies e-bikesbuilt?All of our bicycles, electric andpedal-only, are built right here inthe USA at our South Floridafacility. Built by hand and carefully

constructed, the whole process takes more thanseven hours from start to finish. ProdecoTechnologies follows 21st-century, USA-builtguidelines. Unlike many of our competitors, wedon’t rely on overseas manufacturers to build ourbikes.

What about the warranty?We’re proud to say we offer a lifetime warranty

on our frames and brake pads. We also offer astandard two-year warranty on any structural ormechanical defects resulting from normal wearand tear on every e-bike we build, including thebattery and the motor. And best of all, when youneed a replacement part for one of our e-bikes,we guarantee it actually will be in stock andavailable in a timely manner. That’s something ourcompetitors can’t say. Of course, none of themhave 3.25 million individual components –including 20,000 rims alone -- in stock and readyto be shipped out the way we do.

What are the latestdevelopments in the Prodecoproduct line?

For 2013 we’ve added even more swagger toour wildly popular Phantom series, and themuch-awaited debut of the Outlaw and Titanioseries has everybody at Prodeco stoked about therollout. Our customers clearly feel the same wayabout these high-performance e-bikes that canreach speeds of up to 28 mph (Outlaw) and setnew standards for lightness and durability(Titanio). Our 2013 lineup includes 22 differentoptions, all of them electric except for our Men’s Fitness series, which is pedal-only. We’ve alsopartnered with SRAM, one of the most respectednames in the industry, as we seek to equip our e-bikes with only the finest components.

What does the future hold forProdeco Technologies?

All that great dealer and customer feedback hasgiven us tremendous momentum as we continueto grow the company and work toward making e-bikes as popular in the USA as they are inEurope and elsewhere around the world. By theend of 2012 we plan to move into a new 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art production facility inSouth Florida, which will only help us put our topquality e-bikes in our customers’ hands that muchfaster. The Prodeco StoryFive years ago, when Robert Provost and DanielDel Aguila were running a modest scooter shop inSouth Florida, they quickly grew frustrated with thelow quality of the electric bikes they wereimporting from overseas.

As they kept removing parts from the pre-fab bikesand replacing them with better components theyshopped for themselves, they began to wonder:Why can’t someone just get this process right thefirst time?

Soon, along with Jim Aversa, their head mechanicat the time, they were asking themselves anotherquestion: Why not us?

What followed was a multiyear quest to gather asmuch information as possible about the electricbike business. Why, for instance, were these e-bikes doing so well in Europe and Asia but not inNorth America?

Robert, Daniel and Jim – who was elevated tobusiness partner in 2009 – spent four yearstraveling to dozens of national bike shows, settingup a booth and asking dealers and consumersalike: What do you want in an e-bike? Whatfeatures would make you take the plunge?

The result of all that careful research showed thatAmericans wanted a product that was designed,engineered and assembled in the USA withemphasis on the following elements:

A long process of trial and error has proved timeand again that outsourcing production of bicyclesonly yields failure. At Prodeco, the core principlesremain patriotic, eco-friendly, and customer-oriented. As a rising company, Prodeco recognizesit is extremely important to get the job done rightthe first time. That is why Robert, Daniel and Jimspent so much time and energy developing asuperstar product for the emerging U.S. e-bikemarket.

MARINER SERIES “Nimble”

Lightweight, compact and practical, the

Mariner Series is ideal for short jaunts when

time is at a premium. Small-engine pilots and

nautical types particularly love them, having

found how easily they fit on board. Equipped

with a SRAM X5/X7 drive train and 20-inch

Continental Contact tires on the Mariner 7,

the Mariner Series features an aluminum

frame weighing as little as 42 pounds and

sealed hubs that help it withstand the salty air

of seaside locales. Avid BB5 brakes also

STRIDE SERIES “Stylish”

Consider yourself an Easy Rider? Looking

for a no-frills, hassle-free way to get around

town and handle some errands or see the

sights? Here’s your answer in the Stride

Series. Our more mature customers love this

model, as do women in general. Just as

durable as our other models, the Stride is a

step-thru e-bike that comes in four models,

all featuring a SRAM X5/X7 drive train.

There’s the 250-watt version with folding

capability as well as 300- and 500-watt

(white or black) models that claim rigid

frames. Sporty yet comfortable, the Stride

comes with a Velo Plush HG saddle, Avid

BB5 or BB7 brakes and Continental Town &

Country tires (on all but the 250). Younger

riders enjoy the Stride as well with its

minimum height requirement of 5-foot-2.

Silver may be the color of second place at

the Olympics, but Genesis Series lovers

would beg to differ. Here in one lightweight

package is everything you could ask for in a

folding-frame e-bike. This is our second

edition of the Genesis 500 model, and its

brushed-aluminum brilliance has proved

every bit as popular as we expected. Both

models, including the original version now at

250 watts, offer SRAM X5/X7 drive trains,

Avid BB5 brakes, a mid-rise handlebar and

oversized 26-inch tires for increased traction

and superior durability. Genesis riders should

be at least 5-foot-6 and ready for up to 30

When Prodeco Technologies wanted to

create a special e-bike just for 2012 Academy

Award nominees, we chose to call it the

Phantom O in a nod to our most popular

accepted our own version of the Oscar. With

SRAM hydraulic brakes, the Outlaw comes

out of the box ready to rumble. Even its color

TITANIO SERIES “Brilliant”

Weighing in at right around 30 pounds, our

new Titanio series offers you the lightest full-

size electric bike in the world. That’s about

half the weight of most electric bikes on the

market, and it comes without sacrificing any

of the famous Prodeco durability. Featuring

XO components, a friction drive motor, high-

powered SRAM hydraulic brakes and a

remarkably light titanium frame, the Titanio

comes with 26- or 29-inch wheels. The

Titanio series operates as pedal-assist with a

high-end torque sensor, which means it can

give you that extra push up and over a

troublesome hill. Plus, with a natural brushed

titanium finish, the Titanio Series is as stylish

an e-bike as you’ll find. It may be lightweight,

but the Titanio still packs a powerful punch.

BatteryWe spent over a year designing anddeveloping our new 12-amp batterysystem for the Phantom X2, and itwas definitely worth the extra effort.The 12-amp version is developedfrom the same Prismatic LiFEPO4cells that have proved so popularfor us. It uses 24 auto-grade, fast-charging cells in each system,which results in 38.4 volts of 12amps. Our newest addition is a

51.2-volt, nine-amp model specially designed for the Outlaw. This systemweighs over nine pounds but offers power reserves that are unmatched on thee-bike market. The same goes for the two-year warranty we offer on all ourbatteries, double the industry standard. We also designed a new mount for allour batteries, using aerospace-grade T6 aluminum alloy. Our non-hazardouslithium iron phosphate prismatic polymer cell battery carries a lifespan of morethan 2,000 charge cycles. All our battery systems include a rear-facing LEDlight for safe night riding. Our 12-amp bikes have a range of 25-35 miles percharge, and our six-amp bikes can take you 15-20 miles down the road.Charging time is just three hours for the six-amp version, with that figure risingto 4 1/2 hours for nine amps and a modest six hours for the 12-amp model.

MotorsWe offer a vast array of motors, from a free-spinning, 36-volt, 250-watt modelon our Mariner Series to a Direct Drive XO 48-volt, 750-watt version on our newOutlaw Series, which reaches speeds of up to 28 mph. All of our drive trains aresealed and brushless hubs with quick-disconnect systems and the ability to pushyou past the toughest hill or steepest bridge. Our lower-powered motors aretypically mounted to the front axles for better riding balance, while our higher-powered motors feature rear mounts for the utmost in traction and safety.

Quick Disconnect Wiring and Quick Release Axles Prodeco was the first to offer this very sensible and useful feature on all its e-bikes. Occasional flat tires are a fact of life for any style of bike, but our quick-disconnect wiring makes it far easier for our riders to change the tire quicklyand without any hassle. The same concept applies to the quick-release axles onthe non-motored wheel of the bike. No need to haul your bike into the nearestservice center for a flat tire on a Prodeco bike. Our riders should be able tohandle that occasional problem on their own. The wire harness systemeliminates the need to hunt through a tangle of wires, and our controllers arewired for a two-minute swap in the event of replacement.

ThrottleConsiderable research and thought went into the design and selection of our2013 throttle systems. In each case, the throttle was carefully selected to matchthe personality and capability of the particular e-bike model. In the end, wedecided to go with the half-twist throttle on all except the new Outlaw Series. Allour water-resistant throttles now have an on/off switch for added safety. For theOutlaw, which reaches speeds of up to 28 mph, we chose a thumb throttle foradded safety and ease of use. Some of our customers find the thumb throttleallows them a better grip on the handlebar and thus more control of their e-bike.Others just prefer the motorcycle-like sensation of the half-twist throttle. Eitherway, you’ll get the acceleration you need to navigate the most challenging terrain.


Folding AbilityTwo easy steps and 10 quick seconds. That’s all it takes to fold a Prodeco e-bike,which makes it a breeze to take one aboard a crowded city train or bus on yourway to or from work. You will also have no problem loading your Prodeco e-bikeinto the trunk of your car, even if it happens to be a Smart Car or some othersuper-compact vehicle. On virtually all Prodeco models, the frame folds up, asdo the pedals, and a three-piece folding stem on our Mariner Series adds to theease. How do we do it? By using an aerospace-grade T6 aluminum alloy to keepour frames strong and lightweight, and the TIG welding process makes themsleek and attractive as well.

Stem and Handlebar You want easily adjustable components? Look no further than our Truvativ andPromax stems and handlebars, which put each rider completely in control oftheir individual comfort and convenience. The stem on our Mariner Series foldsin half with a safety lock, which makes storage a breeze. Our models run thegamut from straight and cruiser handlebars to mid- and high-rise. Using sealedbearing cartridges on all our headsets – including threadless on the Outlaw andTitanio series -- is just another way we ensure our e-bikes stay lowmaintenance and headache-free.

Disc Brake SystemStart with our lifetime replacement guarantee on all our brake pads. How’s thatfor peace of mind? Thanks to our partnership with SRAM, we can offer ourcustomers tool-free adjusting calipers on all models and high-powered hydraulicsystems on the Outlaw, Titanio and Men’s Fitness series. This ensures our bikeshave optimal stopping power while at the same time being easy to adjust. Our200-millimeter disc brake models offer 25 percent more surface area over the160-millimeter version typically used in the industry. This upgrade provides evenhigher performance and disperses heat more evenly, which increases stoppingpower. This is especially important now that we’ve taken our top-end speed to 28mph, thanks to the newly released Outlaw Series.

Derailleur and Gears This is the first year of our brand-new partnership with SRAM, and we couldn’tbe more excited. We are now able to offer Prodeco customers the mostdurable, smoothest-shifting drive train in the industry. While our competitorsare stuck on 6-speed cassettes, we have upgraded to 8-, 9- and 10-speedcassettes and freewheels (on the 500- and 750-watt models) of the finestquality. Our drive trains start out at X5/X7 on the Mariner Series and go all theway up to X9/X0 on the debut Outlaw Series. And, of course, the best part isthe SRAM standard of excellence.


Tires, Rims and SpokesAlong with Kenda tires, we now proudly offer Continental as well on many of ourmodels. This ensures a smoother ride, more resistance to puncture and bettergrip when braking across our product line. In order to increase the durability ofour rims, we’ve added triple-box alloy rims on all our 500- and 750-watt models.By using high-grade aluminum, we’re able to give these rugged e-bikes improveddurability along with a sleeker, low-profile look. Most of our other models(Genesis, Stride, Storm and Men’s Fitness, for example) still use a standarddeep-dish, triple-wall rim. Across the board we use 12-gauge 18/8 stainless steelspokes, well above the industry standard.

Pedals Whether providing the power or acomfortable resting place for yourfeet, our pedals are sure to impress.We’re using Truvativ HUSS sealedpedals on our Outlaw and Men’sFitness series and Cheetah pedals onthe Titanium series. All feature steelbearings, while the Truvativs havespikes for added foot stability. The restof our models use HTI F2 Alloy/Nylonpedals with folding capability foreasier storage and portability.

Saddle and Seat Post Functional and stylish. That’s what years of researchtold us our customers wanted their saddles andseatposts to be. We agreed, which is why Prodeco e-bikes now come with a variety of saddle options,including vented and oversized, to accommodate everytype of rider. Our new Outlaw Series comes withleather saddles, as does the Phantom O. On allProdeco models the seatposts are made of aluminumalloy with easily adjustable saddle mount brackets.Top-performing, quick-release levers give ourseatposts precise clamping ability and instant heightadjustment.

Crankset and Chainguard Once again combining function and form, we have created a sleeker, easier-to-access look with our crankset system. We use top-of-the-line SRAM and KMCstainless-steel chains, and our production team cuts them by hand to ensurethe most precise fit for your Prodeco e-bike. Rather than cover the chain with aplastic chain guard as so many others do, we use only high-quality aluminumchain guards. Warranty & Bike LawsProdeco Technologies offers the information below as guidance anddoes not guarantee or assure riders they are following the rules andregulations of their state.Electric bicycle laws may vary by state to state with most states followingthe classification of that by the CPSC (Consumer Product SafetyCommission), DOT & NHSTA. Further, the US NHSTA (National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration) defines low-speed electric bicycles (under20mph) also as consumer products and not Motor Vehicles for safetystandards. The NHSTA adheres for the most part to the CPSC guidelines.We included reference below on how electric bicycles are perceived bythe Federal Government's most important agencies. We do believe newregulation and rules will apply in the future upon the electric bicyclebecoming one of the standard forms of transportation for the masses.Prodeco Technologies will continue to follow new rules and guidance setforth by these agencies, always welcoming and adhering to theguidelines they feel are required to assure safety for the electric bicyclerider.

On October 22, 2008, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)updated the Bicycle and Pedestrian Provisions of FederalTransportation Legislation to make technical corrections andclarifications.Below are the important updates reflecting electric bicycles:Motorized Vehicle Use: In general, motorized vehicles are not permittedon non-motorized trails and pedestrian walkways funded under Title 23.Exceptions to this general rule exist for maintenance vehicles; motorizedwheelchairs; when State or local regulations permit, snowmobiles; andelectric bicycles (weighing under 100 pounds and a top speed of lessthan 20 miles per hour); "and such other circumstances as the Secretarydeems appropriate" (except the Recreational Trails Program whichspecifically provides funds for motorized trails). In 2008, FHWAdeveloped a Framework for Considering Motorized Use on Non-motorized Trails and Pedestrian Walkways to implement the "othercircumstances" provision.

Prodeco Technologies only offers electric bicycles that fall under thecategory of “weighing under 100 pounds and a top speed of less than 20miles per hour”. According to the DOT and NHSTA, Prodeco electricbicycles meet the exception of Motorized Vehicles and therefore can beridden on non-motorized trails and bike paths permitting state and locallaws.

Framework for Considering Motorized Use on Non-motorized Trailsand Pedestrian Walkways under 23 U.S.C. § 217The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to Federal HighwayAdministration (FHWA) division offices and a consistent framework fordetermining when to permit an exception for motorized use on non-motorized trails and pedestrian walkways under 23 U.S.C. § 217(h)(5).The relevant legislation reads as follows:23 U.S.C. § 217. Bicycle Transportation and Pedestrian Walkways (h)Use of Motorized Vehicles.--Motorized vehicles may not be permitted ontrails and pedestrian walkways under this section, except for-- (1)maintenance purposes; (2) when snow conditions and State or localregulations permit, snowmobiles; (3) motorized wheelchairs; (4) whenState or local regulations permit, electric bicycles; and (5) such othercircumstances as the Secretary deems appropriate.

(j) Definitions.--In this section, the following definitions apply:(2) Electric bicycle.--The term "electric bicycle" means any bicycle ortricycle with a low-powered electric motor weighing under 100pounds, with a top motor-powered speed not in excess of 20 miles perhour.(4) Wheelchair.--The term "wheelchair" means a mobility aid, usableindoors, and designed for and used by individuals with mobilityimpairments, whether operated manually or motorized.

The above 23 U.S.C. § 217 offers direction that the Prodeco ElectricBicycles are allowed on bike-paths (non-motorized trails) due to Prodecoelectric bicycles falling under the classification of less than 100 poundsand under 20 mph.

HR 727SECTION 1, CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY ACTThe Consumer Product Safety Act (15 U.S.C. 2051 et seq) is amendedby added at the end of the following:

LOW-SPEED ELECTRIC BICYCLESSEC. 38.(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, low-speedelectric bicycles are consumer products within the meaning of section3(a)(1) and shall be subject to the Commission regulations published atsection 1500.18(a)(12) and part 1512 of title 16, Code of FederalRegulations.

(b) For the purpose of this section, the term `low-speed electric bicycle'means a two or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and anelectric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.), whose maximum speed ona paved level surface, when powered solely by such a motor while riddenby an operator who weighs 170 pounds, is less than 20 mph.(c) To further protect the safety of consumers who ride low-speedelectric bicycles, the Commission may promulgate new or amendedrequirements applicable to such vehicles as necessary and appropriate.

(d) This section shall supersede any State law or requirement withrespect to low speed electric bicycles to the extent that such State law orrequirement is more stringent than the Federal law or requirementsreferred to in subsection (a).

SEC. 2. MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS.For purposes of motor vehicle safety standards issued and enforcedpursuant to chapter 301 of title 49, United States Code, a low-speedelectric bicycle (as defined in section 38(b) of the Consumer ProductSafety Act) shall not be considered a motor vehicle as defined by section30102(6) of title 49, United States Code.

Local Bicycle Laws• Most states have their own set of bicycle laws regarding traditionalpedal powered bicycles. With most states recognizing electric bicyclesas traditional pedal powered bicycles you must know these laws in yourarea. Your Department of Transportation or Cycle Clubs in your area willhave the details involving riding a bicycle in your area and your city'sbike pathways. Requirements for riding changes with areas with mostcities requiring LED lights, hand signals, riding on the correct side ofthe road, riding behind and not parallel to other cyclist, etc…
