Priority Mobile Solutions – Stepping away from the keyboard...

• eMerge offers a range of mobile solutions to meet the different connectivity requirements of the busy modern mobile workforce

•We will be looking at the different hardware and client software available for both shop floor and field deployed data capture solutions

•Shop floor data capture devices are based in-house and are permanently connected (via your wireless network). This means they can query Priority data in real time – making client applications very flexible

•Field deployed data capture devices connect to Priority using the GSM (cell phone) network. Their operation must therefore be uninterrupted by common GSM network outages (such as going through tunnels). All data is stored on-board so as to be available off-line. Synchronisation of data between Priority and the device is burst on connect

•Later on we will also examine web-based data capture, where the client application is simply an internet browser

Datalogic Memor

•We recommend the Datalogic range of industrial data appliances for our Shop Floor Data Capture application

•These devices run the Windows Compact Edition operating system and connect to Priority via your wireless network

•The rugged form factor of the Datalogic range delivers high drop tolerances and long lifespan to ensure high return on investment.

Motorola ES400

•We recommend the ruggedised Motorola ES400 for our GSM application – again offering an industrial lifespan for high RoI.

•The device runs the Windows Mobile operating system. (Note that Windows Mobile is the enterprise GSM solution – Windows Phone is the consumer version).

•The application connects to Priority (when it is able) via the GSM mobile phone network

•The application supports 3g, GPRS and HSPDA connections

Logging in...

• Priority SFDC records the name of the operator against all transactions

•User details are often printed as barcodes on a login card to allow users to quickly identify themselves at start-up

•Once the operator has connected the logged in user is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the application

Opening a new transaction...

•New transactions are opened from the menu

•The new transaction menu can be accessed from the main menu using the touch screen

•For some environments – for example when the operator is wearing gloves – the jog wheel on the device can also be used to quickly select the transaction type

•Clicking the required transaction type, or scrolling to it with the jog wheel and thumbing select, will open the transaction

Goods receipt...

•The operator first records the location into which items are to be received

•In this example the warehouse is assumed to minimise the number of required scans

•Next the operator scans the purchase order barcode and the part barcode

• Scanning the purchase order for each item means that multiple purchase orders can be received simultaneously

Entering the quantity...

• The quantity entry screen is common to many transactions

• Ideally quantities should be scanned, but they may also be entered manually using the touch screen numeric keypad, or by using the hardware keys on the device

• If the quantity has been entered manually this can be recorded and a the manual entry flag set in the data returned to Priority for subsequent checking

Rinse and repeat...

• The operator now repeats this process for each item in the delivery

• Subsequent scans of the same part and purchase order combination increments the delivered quantity

• Depending on your business process it may be possible to reduce the number of scans required

•If you often receive single items the received quantity can default to 1, removing the quantity scan

•If you only receive a single purchase order at once the purchase order can be set to only scanned once, removing the purchase order scan

Posting the transaction...

• Once all items on a delivery have been scanned the transaction can be posted

• The operator simply presses the tick and confirms the transaction

• The details of this transaction are posted to Priority and a new goods receiving voucher is created

Picking items for despatch...

• Some stock transactions are “on-demand” – pick notes for example can be assigned to the next available picking operative

• Alternatively picking transactions can also be assigned to an specific operator by in Priority

• The operator simply opens the transaction to receive their next pick job

Getting it right first time, every time...

• Mistakes in the despatch process are costly – not only financially but also in terms of your customer relationships and in time to rectify

• The operator sees what to pick and where from, but has to scan both location and part to proceed

•Enforcing the scanning of the correct picking location and part numbers during picking reduces the chance of costly despatch mistakes

Scan each item to be picked...

• Scanning each item ensures that the correct quantity has been picked

• The application displays a running total of scanned items

•The operator repeats this operation for each of the items of the picking list

Are you sure you’re sure..?

• Throughout the SFDC application real-time validation against the live data enables business rule logic to be implemented

• Here we see that the operator is warned if the current scan item is more that was requested

•Similar checks are implemented throughout the system to ensure that captured data is as accurate as possible

Minimising stock take headaches...

•Your stock holding and the value of that stock are important business performance indicators

•The shop floor application offers stock count modules for both cycle counting and year end counting

•Inventory counts created by the application are identical to inventory counts done on-screen in Priority – the only difference is that they are significantly more accurate

•Consequently, when you have finished counting you will still have full access to all the CoG reporting functionality benefits offered by standard Priority

Counting as easy as 1-2-3...

•In this example the warehouse is entered automatically to minimise the number of required scans

•The operator simply scans the location once and then scans each item in that location

•While the operator is scanning the application will add parts and increment the stock levels for each of the items in the location

•Once completed this information is posted back to Priority in real time

And many more...

•eMerge offers a wide range of pre-existing, highly customisable shop floor data collection modules

• Each module is tailored to your individual business process to minimise the number of scans per item and to ensure the best productivity

•The SFDC application also supports the development of entirely custom modules to work with any Priority document type
