END OF TERM ASSEMBLY The highlight of the end of term assembly was acknowledging the high number of students for their academic achievement and/or improvement in Term 2. Across the school 44 students achieved awards for Academic Achievement (up from 37 in Term 1) - 31 Excellent and 13 Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards. At the assembly we also awarded certificates to those students who made significant growth in their academic achievement from Term 1 to Term 2. This was the first time we had awarded certificates for academic improvement, and it was very pleasing to see 75 students acknowledged for their academic growth. These students acted upon the teacher feedback provided in their Term 1 reports, set goals, identified strategies to achieve their goals and then had the discipline and persistence to achieve their goals. We value both achievement and improvement at Jamestown Community School, and are committed to challenging and supporting our students (and staff) to continually improve and aspire to be the best that they can be. NEW WEBSITE Throughout Term 2 we have been working on designing a new website as our previous one was starting to look quite dated. Our new website went live this week with a new address – www.jcs.sa.edu.au. On the new website you will find current and previous newsletters, school policies, Reception to Year 12 curriculum information, Community Library details, and a gallery of recent images. The new website complements our other communication methods such as our Facebook page and Flexibuzz messaging service to provide current information to our school and wider community. STUDENT FREE DAY Friday 9 th August (Week 3) is a Student Free Day. Staff on this day will be working on continuing our improvement work focussed on Reading, Task Design and SACE Improvement. 10-12 NEWS

2019 DEBUTANTE BALL Jamestown Community School’s Governing Council were delighted to host the 2019 Debutante Ball at the Memorial Hall, Jamestown, on Friday July 5th. 17 couples (34 Debutantes) were capably trained by Mr and Mrs Tony and Kathryn Leesong, and Mrs Julie Kelly. The students were presented to Mr Rowan Ramsey MP and Mrs Teresa Ramsey with the boys looking very dapper in their black suits, finished with maroon corsages, and the girls looking elegant in their full-length, white dresses. The music was provided by Madge Vanstone and band, and Mr Phillip Leesong on piano, enticing debutantes, friends and family to dance right until the very end. Parents of the Debutante decorated the hall to suit an ambient garden theme, which was appreciated by approximately 360 attendees. On behalf of the Debutante Ball Organising Committee and JCS Governing Council, thank you to everyone who supported and assisted with the 2019 Debutante Ball. It was a great success. 2019 Debutantes

Road Awareness Presentation – Year 11 Students Next Tuesday July 30th, @ 1pm the MFS will present a Road Awareness Program at Gladstone High School to our Year 11 students. The students will need access to their phones so that they can access a smartphone app called ‘Road Awareness Program’. Students need to register PRIOR to the presentation. Year 9 Display in Library – Nominations for Acts of Kindness and Courage During the last week of term 2, Year 9 students presented oral presentations for the Henry Ward Beecher Medal – for individuals recognised for undertaking repeated acts of courage and kindness. These presentations were heart-warming, and a privilege to witness. I commend the students for their application to this task, as they whole-heartedly embraced collecting the evidence needed. These nominations are on display in the library and would make a pleasant end or start to your work day if you could stop by.
