SWIMMING CARNIVAL A huge thank you to Mr Boyd, Mrs Elliott, Mrs Woodbury, Mrs Yee and Mrs Bickham for organising today’s swimming carnival. The weather was lovely and all students, teachers and spectators had a great day. There were many outstanding performances and it was fantastic to see so many of our students displaying the Carlingford spirit and ‘having a go’. Next week the newsletter will have a result sheet for every race. Qualifying students will represent our school at the Parramatta/Merrylands Zone Carnival on Thursday, March 1 at Merrylands Pool. WEEKLY ASSEMBLIES School assemblies will commence in Week 3. The day and time of both the K-2 and 3-6 assemblies is currently being reviewed and will be confirmed in Week 3. Parents are most welcome to join us. P & C MEETING SOCIAL EVENING Our first P&C meeting for the year will be held on Monday February 19. The meeting begins at the special time of 7:00pm in the Library. All parents and carers are welcome to attend P&C meetings. These meetings provide you with an insight into the operations of the school and offer the opportunity to have input into future directions. Following our P&C Meeting will be our ‘Social Night’ evening commencing at 7:30pm. The evening is a great opportunity to come along and meet some of our staff, parents and community members in a social and relaxed atmosphere. After this initial meeting, P&C meetings will be held on the third Monday of each school month, commencing at 7:30pm in the library. BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE OPTIONS I am well aware that there are many families are on a waiting list for before/after school care with Carlingford Multipurpose Learning Centre. Unfortunately there are strict guidelines as to how many students we can offer places to and at this stage we are limited to approximately 60 places. This will increase dramatically once our school upgrade is completed in 2020. If you wish to discuss your waitlist options, please contact the Carlingford Multipurpose Centre on (02) 9872 6155 or [email protected].

A number of activities are offered by external providers at our school after hours which serve as an alternative to after school care. A table of these activities has been included below for your information.

Another company has contacted me regarding after school care. ‘Kicks’ after school care is based at Carlingford Village. Students are collected from school at 3:25pm. Students are provided with a healthy afternoon tea, given an opportunity to complete their homework, participate in martial arts/leadership lessons and have supervised recreation time. ‘Kicks is open until 6:30pm. For more details please refer to attached flyer at the rear of today’s newsletter and contact Kicks directly. TERM 1 ACCOUNTS In the coming weeks you will receive your Term 1 account. Prompt payment of your account is appreciated to ensure our school can continue to fund programs for your child. A ‘technology levy’ is included in the Term 1 account. This fee will be used to give students subscription access to sites including Mathletics, World Book Encyclopaedia, Explain Everything, Voki and Glogster Edu. Once signed up at school, these sites can also be accessed from home.

Page 3: PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE DIARY DATES · Week 2 . Tues Feb 6 – Swimming Carnival, Epping Pool. Fri Feb 9 – Summer PSSA Trials . Week 3 . Tues Feb 13 – Stage 3 Dance. Wed Feb 14

Part of this levy will also go towards the maintenance of our three computer labs and the purchase of additional iPads for our students. The $50 fee is a ‘one off’ payment and lasts the whole year. The P&C donation has also been included within the account. The P&C donation ($100 per student or $150 per family) is collected by the school on behalf of the P&C. Funds are then used to provide resources for our students. In previous years these funds have been used to provide literacy and numeracy classroom resources, interactive whiteboards and flat screen monitors for all classrooms, air conditioning and a computer research centre for the Library, installing Wi Fi throughout the school, iPads for the students, our fantastic new K–2 playground, $40,000 towards our oval restoration and a new electronic notice board for our school. This year the P&C are yet to decide how funds will be allocated, but we have many items on our ‘wish list’. A description of the items included in the term account will be attached. Please ensure your statement is enclosed with your payment or if you are paying through the school website you identify what your payment is to be receipted against. Our preferred method of payment is online using the Make a Payment button on the school website. This method enables you to receive a receipt for payment immediately and lessens the chance of cash or credit card details going astray. If you are paying using cash, cheque or credit card, please ensure these payments are handed in at the school office in a sealed envelope, preferably by a parent, between 8:30am and 3:30pm, Monday to Wednesday. ‘NO PARKING 8 – 9:30am’ - KEELER STREET MORNING DROP OFF The section of Keeler Street from the pedestrian crossing down to the tennis court is marked with signage stating “NO PARKING 8 – 9:30am”. In this zone you are allowed to stop for a maximum of 2 minutes only between the hours of 8 and 9:30am. Essentially this is a ‘kiss and drop’ zone. Legally parents must stay within 3 metres of the vehicle and cannot leave the vehicle unattended. The purpose of this zone is to increase parking availability and traffic flow. Disobeying this signage attracts a fine in excess of $180.

DROPPING OFF /COLLECTING CHILDREN Please note that there is no pedestrian access through the school’s tennis court car park. Please use the pedestrian gates located in front of the library and at the side of the school administration building. Parents are also asked not to walk their children through the pre-school car park. Please walk down to the pedestrian gates. I realise parents dropping pre-schoolers at the Multipurpose Learning Centre have to use this area to drop off and collect their children. Our children’s safety is our priority. Car parks and children are not a good combination. Parents using these areas as a short cut set a poor example for our students and potentially put them at risk. Your co-operation is much appreciated. PLAY EQUIPMENT Please note that students (and toddlers) are not permitted to play on the play equipment (Akshaye’s playground and older equipment) before and after school. There is no teacher on duty during these periods and if there is an accident, injuries would not be covered under insurance. I know it is tempting to let your children play there, but in the interests of safety, your co-operation would be much appreciated. CALENDAR A Term 1 Calendar has been included in today’s newsletter. Demerit Points:* The Demerit Points Scheme is a national program that allocates penalty points (demerits) for a range of driving offences. A driver who has not committed any offences has ’zero’ points. If you commit an offence that carries demerit points, the points are added to your driving record. If you incur the threshold number of demerit points within a three-year period, a licence suspension or refusal is applied. The three-year period is calculated between the dates the offences were committed. It ends on the day your most recent offence was committed.
