Principal – Mrs Toni Skinner WEEK 7 14 June 2019 Principal’s Report Thank you to all of the families for your support and congratulations on my appointment as substantive Principal of Kariong Public School. I am extremely happy to be continuing on at this great school and look forward to getting to know many more of the wonderful families in this community. Please remember if you need to discuss any concerns or problems, please contact me to organise a time to meet. The teachers have been very busy writing end of semester reports and they will be ready to go home with your child in the last week of term, Wednesday July 3. School will break up on Friday July 5 and resume on July 23 for all students. Don’t forget to get your pie orders in as soon as possible. All orders are due into school by Friday June 21 and delivery will be Tuesday July 2. If you need another order form please see someone at the office. Yesterday we held a special assembly to recognise the students who excelled at the school cross country carnival in the first week of this term. Thank you to everyone for participating and, no matter whether you received a place or not, it was wonderful to see so many children have a go and earn points for their house. Congratulations to Banksia for winning the carnival as there were not many points separating first and fourth. Thank you to Mr Bennett and all the staff involved in the organisation of this carnival. We were also able to recognise and congratulate the 48 students who attended the Brisbane Water Cross Country Carnival on May 31. I was delighted to discover that Kariong Public School was placed first out of the ten schools. Congratulations to all our competitors and I would like to wish Blake B, Jasmine G, Katelyn W, Wilson B and Kiara G all the best of luck at our zone carnival at Sydney North. Next Thursday 20 June there will be a Parent ICT Workshop from 9-10am in our computer lab in the library. The ICT team will take you through the school’s scope and sequence and grade overviews. All interested parents and carers are welcome to attend. Stage 3 will also be attending a sports gala day at Kariong Mountains High School next Wednesday June 19. All permission notes should have already been returned to your child’s class teacher. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other students attending KMHS from our local area and I am sure everyone will have a wonderful day. Our new procedures for receiving payments is working well. Thank you to the parents and students who have been bringing money directly to the office and placing it in the allocated box located on the front wall near the counter. We ask that the envelope be marked with your child’s name, class and what the payment is for, to allow the payment to be processed. Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday ready for week 8. Toni Skinner

Senior Boys Soccer Report On Friday 7 June at Kariong Oval, the Senior Boys’ Soccer Team played Valley View PS in round four of the PSSA soccer knockout competition. The score was 17-0 to Kariong. We played very well and had goals from Jye, Sam, Will, Wilson, Toby, Tyler and Josh. Well done Jye for scoring 5 goals. We played very well as a team and moved the ball quickly. We created opportunities in the front third and were clinical in front of goal. We look forward to playing round five. By Toby, Zane and Flynn

Central Coast Showcase 2019 On Monday, 27 May, one of our Drama Llama performing groups auditioned for the Central Coast Showcase 2019. The judges were obviously dazzled by the students’ talents and I am pleased to say we were successful with our audition. The group will now perform a matinee and an evening show at the Laycock Street Theatre on Wednesday 21 August. More information is to come but if you are interested in securing tickets for the evening show, they will be on sale from mid July at Laycock Street Theatre (Adults: $28 / Concession: $24). Phone the theatre for more information on 4323 3233 or go to the website:

It is a sad reality that there are over 116,000 homeless people living in Australia!

Wiseberry Kariong is seeking donations to help our local shelter, Coast Shelter Gosford, cope with the cold winter months.

We are asking our community to donate clean blankets, new socks and jumpers. Non-perishable foods may also be donated.

After 10 busy weeks reviewing KPS policies, programs, surveying students, staff and community members, overseeing staff training days, the LLWS course has now been completed. I am pleased to announce KPS has received a $2000 grant. This was a joint initiative between NSW Ministry of Health and the school sectors in NSW. The 3 identified targets for KPS are:

i) Provide parent/carers of Kariong school community with information to promote healthy eating and physical activity. I do hope you have observed these in our weekly newsletter. You will also find details on our Facebook page. Any further information throughout the year about upcoming events will also be provided to parents, for example at our Kindergarten Orientation.

ii) PBL Rewards across whole school

iii) Canteen. We are in the process of organising signage to promote healthy eating. Our PBL mascot, Lori, will be ‘hot on our heels’ to ensure he is included!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data In 2019 all Australian Government schools will be implementing the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data

(NCCD), for school students with a disability.

This important data collection will reflect the support that is already being provided to students and will focus on the steps the school is taking to ensure that all students can access education on the same basis. The data will be used to inform future planning by governments and education authorities and will help us to better support the participation of students with disability in our school and all other NSW public schools.

The data collection will focus on the adjustments that are being made by teachers and schools to support individual students to access and participate in education. Schools will collect information already available in the school about:

The level of adjustment being provided to support students with disability to participate in

their schooling like all other students

The number of students who receive each level of adjustment

Where known, the student’s type of disability.

The data collection process will have no direct impact on your child and they will not be involved in any testing process.

Reported data will be made available in such a way that the privacy of all students is maintained.

If you do not want your child to be counted in the data collection, you must complete the attached form and

return it to the school before Thursday, 4 July.

If you have any questions about your child being counted in the data collection please contact the school.

Further information about the data collection can be found at the website:

Our Week with Lori – Class KW

This week in KW, Lori has been learning the ‘sh’ sound.

In literacy groups he has been revising last week’s, ‘th’ sound.

In Science, Lori helped some students

build their shelter.

Lori loves to see great writing, so he’s lucky that he has been able to spend time in KW because we are fabulous writers .
