Principal – Mrs Toni Skinner Term 3 WEEK 10 25 September 2020
Deputy Principal Report
Well it’s here, the end of Term 3 and so many things have happened and there are more great things to come.
PBL Rewards Day On Wednesday was an exciting day, where students cashed in their well-earned PBL points to celebrate their ongoing demonstration of our core values of respect, responsibility and personal best. Many students had morning tea with the Principal. Mrs Rayner and I were privileged to be a part of the celebrations with Mrs Skinner visiting by speaker on the mobile phone while on leave. Many other students went out of the school and enjoyed time at Peppermint Park. The movies, The Lion King and The One and Only Ivan were also very popular with the children. With many students dressed in mufti or taking the opportunity to get some free time on the laptop, the day was very enjoyable for all.
SRC Fundraiser ‘Dress as an Essential Worker for the Day’ Today the SRC held a fundraiser to raise money to donate to Gosford Hospital. Students and staff looked amazing, dressed as essential workers for a gold coin donation. Nurses, doctors, police, farmers and many other different types of essential workers were represented. Look at the photos to see how great everyone looked. It was also a reminder that in the tough times we’ve had, the commitment and effort of essential workers in the community to keep everything going is valued and acknowledged at Kariong PS. This day raised more than $500. Congratulations everyone for contributing and thank you to our SRC for organising the event.
Value of the Month It was wonderful this morning to be part of acknowledging and congratulating the students who have consistently demonstrated outstanding responsibility at school with a special morning tea. Mrs Rayner and I presented the students with their special certificate and badge and enjoyed sharing this special occasion with the students. Please see the photo of our Value of the Month students in this newsletter.
Fruit and Veg Month A NSW government health initiative, Planet Fruit and Veg, has been operating through the school canteen this month. Any student who purchased a fruit or vegetable item from the canteen, received a sticker that was collected and stuck on a class poster for recording. Congratulations to 4RG who purchased 144 items, 3H - 97, KD - 82 and 4M - 78. 4RG and 3H students received a special incentive to keep up the healthy eating. Congratulations to these classes.

Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey Thank you to the families that have responded by completing the TTFM Parent Survey which has now closed. Stage 3 students and staff at our school have also provided feedback as part of the TTFM Survey. We are very pleased with the number of responses that have been provided and we will use this valuable feedback for future school planning. Multicultural Speaking Competition A special congratulations goes to Ilia L in 6T who has gone onto the next round of the NSW Department of Education Multicultural Speaking Competition. Ilia is one of 16 students who will be presenting his speech, ‘Racism No Way’ and an impromptu speech as part of the competition. This regional final includes students from schools as far away as Tamworth and will be conducted live online. Ilia will be presenting his speech on Tuesday 20 October at school where a small student audience will be there to see him in action. How exciting, we wish him well. Goodbye to Mrs Dunn We have been very lucky to have Mrs Dunn as an additional teacher at our school during the year, where she has been extremely supportive of both the staff and students at Kariong. Mrs Dunn will be taking up her teaching duties at Empire Bay PS at the beginning of Term 4. We wish her well with her new appointment. Term 4 Guidelines for Schools and Advice for Families On 24 September, 2020 the NSW Department of Education published updated guidelines for school operations next term. Information includes some of the following points.
• Community use of school facilities may continue with a COVID-19 Safety Plan • Parents and carers who need to be on site for the canteen or uniform shop are able to continue
attending the school for this purpose and must sign a visitor acknowledgement form. • Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events. This includes
parents and carers, except for parent and teacher meetings that are essential for such matters as welfare and discipline.
• Scripture classes are to continue under the same conditions as in Term 3. • P & C Meetings should continue online only. P & C social events or functions involving parents and
other adults are not permitted in Term 4. • Students should be at school unless they are currently unwell. If child is absent for more than 3 days
without a medical certificate, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school.
• Schools continue to have enhanced cleaning for high touch areas as part of daily cleaning with an additional clean throughout the day.
We are pleased that updated guidelines allow for a Year 6 graduation and formal for students and staff. This organisation will continue to be put in place and information communicated during Term 4. Please use the link below if you wish further information. https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families I am sure students, staff and families are looking forward to a restful and reinvigorating holiday. Please take care of yourself. Students and staff return for Term 4 on Monday 12 October 2020. Sondra

LIBRARY NEWS The 2020 KPS Book Fair will be held next term, during Book Week, in Week 2. The theme for this year is CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS. Students are invited to take part in the family challenge, whereby they design a 3D creation to suit this theme. Creations will be judged by Mrs Skinner on the Monday of Week 2 and vouchers will be awarded to 10 students to spend at the Book Fair. Due to current circumstances, the Book fair will be open in the morning for students only, from
8.25 – 8:55 a.m. again at recess and at lunch, for students to purchase items. For larger purchases, parents are requested to fill in a payment form and purchase items online. Details will be sent home early next term. BOOK PARADE Students are encouraged to dress up to suit the same theme for the Book Parade, which will also be held during Week 2, Term 4, on Thursday, 22nd October, 2020. Students may also come dressed up as any character from a book. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs McGann. Once again, due to current circumstances, parents will not be permitted to attend the Book Parade. We will ensure that plenty of photos are taken and will be made available to view on our website. PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE The 2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge has now closed. Successful students will be receiving their awards in Term 4.
STEM Video This is the STEM video from last week. The YouTube URL is https://youtu.be/fz_j_VTY2gU Its also on our home page https://kariong-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/
Make Online Payments It is very easy for parents to make online payments to the school via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa, MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone. This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner; these details are not passed back to the school. The DoE preferred method for all money coming into the school is the Payment On-Line facility (POP), through the school’s website: [email protected]. Item categories Items that can be paid include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance). There is also a category called ‘Other’ to cover items not covered in the previous headings, ‘Other’ can be used to make a complete payment of a school Statement of Account. When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:
• the student’s name • date of birth.
These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system. You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed. Helpful Hints
• If a POP payment is made before 6pm, your payment will be processed on the next day’s school statement.
• If it is made after 6pm, the school will be notified two days later. • Please ensure that on your child’s permission note, you fill in the section for POP which will require
the receipt number. • At the bottom of every note that requires payment, there is a section for cash, cheque, and Payment
on-line, for your convenience. • Please do not make payments for uniforms on this site. The Uniform Shop is privately run
and their website for ordering is: gtschool.com.au. Reminder about Money Collecting procedures: All cash money sent to the school is to be brought to the Administration Office and placed into the letterbox slot that is on the front wall near the counter. This will allow payments to be placed securely, even when the office is not open. Please do not leave money on the counter. We ask that the envelope be marked with your child’s name, class, and what the payment is for, to allow the payment to be processed. The office staff will administer all money and a receipt will be issued to the family, which will go to the student’s class teacher to send home. This procedure ensures better handling of all monies and reduces disruption to teachers and students.
We provide a variety of ways to make payments within the school, to make it easier for families and alleviate some students bringing large amounts of money to school. EFTPOS payments may be processed at the Administration Office or over the phone for those families who choose to use this facility. For any enquiries regarding the online payment process, please contact Kariong School Administration Office.
PBL News Week 10 PBL Lori Rewards Day Term 3
Congratulations to all students who have reached our Gold PBL level. Certificates will be presented at our morning assemblies next term. Thank you to all our students who consistently display our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. On Wednesday 23rd September, we held this term’s Lori Rewards Day. Students traded in their Lori tickets that they had earnt during the term for a reward. The tickets were earnt
by students for demonstrating our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best throughout the term. Congratulations to all students who participated in the day. Over 170 students wore mufti for the day. Over 100 students went to Peppermint Park where they enjoyed running around and playing. 90 students enjoyed popcorn and watching the movie in the hall. Mrs Broadhurst and Mrs Rayner enjoyed morning tea with 40 students and Mrs Skinner even made a surprise phone call to chat to these students. Congratulations to all students on earning these rewards and we look forward to a great Term 4.
