At this time, I would like to thank students and staff for their time and commitment with the December concerts (Band/Choir and Gr. What does “bus driver discretion” mean?

When AVRCE announces “bus driver discretion,” this means that

road conditions are generally good, but some roads may not be

plowed or may be slippery. A school bus driver may choose not to

travel these roads if s/he thinks it is not safe to do so. When this

happens, the school is notified and will try to contact families

about the affected road(s). If a bus doesn’t travel a particular road

before school, it will not travel that road after school. So if you

drop your child to school, you will also need to pick the child up.

WINTER POLICLIES AND REMINDERS

Throwing snow and/or ice can cause an injury and therefore we have clear rules that snow and ice should not be thrown. Students who do not respect this rule will lose the privilege of being on the playground for a reasonable period of time and a letter will be sent home to notify parents.

Crazy carpets must be rolled up, secure and placed in a bag. Sleds and snowboards are not allowed on the school bus and should not be brought to school.

In addition, please warn your children of the danger of playing in snow .

Please ensure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. On days when there may be a wind chill they should come prepared to go outside. We will not send them out if temperature and wind chill becomes a risk. However they should always come prepared for going outside.

COUNSELLOR’S CORNER

A Virtue is a positive trait or quality deemed to be morally good; it

is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being. All

children are born with the virtues in potential; when parents and

educators awaken and embrace these gifts of character, we can

change the world. (thevirtuesproject.com)

Friendliness is being a friend. It is taking an interest in other people.

It is going out of your way to make others feel welcome or to make

a stranger feel at home. When you are friendly, you happily share

your belongings, time, ideas and feelings. You share the good times

and the bad times together. Friendliness is the best cure for

loneliness.

Why practice it? Friendliness keeps you and others from feeling

lonely or left out. It helps people feel that they belong. When

something good or bad happens, it feels good to share it with a

friend. Friendships don’t just happen-they are made by people who

are willing to be themselves with each other. Friendliness begins

with liking yourself and believing you have something to share with

others.

What would friendliness look like if…

-You see someone who is new at school looking lonely?

-You wish you could make friends with a popular student at school?

-Your parents invite a family to dinner whom you have never met?

-One of your friends looks like she has been crying?

-You are walking past someone who looks strange and dresses

differently?

-You wish you had more friends?

You are practicing Friendliness when you…

-Like yourself and realize you have a lot to offer

-Smile and greet someone you don’t know

-Get to know someone and let them get to know you

-Show an interest in others

-Show caring when a friend needs you

-Are friendly to people who look and act different
