Read a range of stories, poems and non- fiction to them. Research shows that this is the single most important thing a parent can do to help their child’s education.

At school, children will focus on making predictions about characters and events in stories.

Maths Read, write and compare numbers and groups of

objects to 100. Compare, order and partition numbers identifying the

tens and ones in each number. Add and subtract a single digit to a two-digit number. Add and subtract 10 more or less from 2 digit numbers. Recognise equal groups and use arrays to solve

multiplication problems involving 2s, 5s and 10s. Count and compare different amounts of money and

find change. Solve simple word problems.

Science Name and describe the different materials used to

make toys today and in the past Discuss properties of materials and why they are

used for particular purposes Find out how toys work e.g. battery, push or pull,

wheels Observe seasonal changes e.g. leaves changing

colour in autumn

Writing Understand that different language is needed

for different kinds of writing Plan and write a short story with an effective

Phonics and Spelling Consolidation of Phase 5 phonics. Can we

remember which spelling choice to use for common words: make, afraid, Thursday, bacon?

Working with suffixes. What happens to base words when we add –ing, -ed, -er, -s or- es.

Can you please help your child practise the spellings they bring home each week?

Art and Design Use Andy Warhol’s ‘Toys’ series as a basis for

creating their own printed picture of a toy

History Use time words and order toys chronologically Find out about toys children used to play with as
