Introduction

What is Eldorado Freeride? Extreme ski or freeride consists in descending slopes of great difficulty, with inclinations of up to 55º, from the ountain tops on snowboard or skis jumping and rocks, sliding between narrow paths and all kinds of snow, which obliges the rider to sharpen his/her imagination to decide on their tracks.

This discipline is practised on the mountains and, as every activity of this kind, has its risks. Eldorado freeride thinks that safety is the most important thing, a brigade of fire fighters specialized in mountain affairs and two helicopters take care of the rider’s safety. The riders value the experience to compete in EDF as very positive.

2012 will be EDF’s 15th Edition.

1.1 Freeride World Tour (FWT)

1.1.1 Freeride World Tour (FWT)

FWT is the only World tour of freeride competitions . It consists of 6 competitions, a great final competition in Verbier and a league called theFreeride World Qualifier (FWQ) to access or remain the FWT.

1.1.2 Freeride World (FWQ)

FWQ is contented in different ski stations in 18 different countries. The FWQ tour consists of 4 categories distinguished by stars 1, 2, 3 and 4.

EDF is the first and unique freeride competition in the Pyrenees selected by FWT to take part of FWQ.

EDF this 2012 becomes FWQ 4* , the highest qualification before FWT.

2.1 Eldorado Freeride (EDF)

Eldorado Freeride (EDF) is the main extreme competition in the Pyrenees andthe most important one in the South of Europe. It is an international sports event with riders coming from more than 20 different countries.

Where the contestants show their skills in extreme slopes within a cool atmosphere and true competitive spirit.

Professional ski riders, among men and women, are carefully selected according to the ranking of FWR by our technical team.

2008-2009Vallnord EDF becomes classificatory trial of Freeride World Qualifier.

3.1 Vallnord

Vallnord ski station is located in Andorra. Its geographic situation is excellent. It is a reference for the European freeride. Arcalis is the freeride space of Vallnordand it is where we hold the event. Its Norwest oriented and gifted with a geography, it guarantees the best snow in t he Pyrenees to practice freeride. Its impressive mountain picks and its different areas are checked by the FWT for the development of the event.

3 WHERE DOES EDF TAKE PLACE?

Vallnord station holds the event between the 23rd and 28th February of 2012.

These dates are the most appropriate given the geographic and meteorological conditions to assure the best quality of snow.
