Minnesota State Colleges and Universities The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system is one of two systems of public higher education in the state of Minnesota (the other is the University of Minnesota). With its 31 institutions, including 24 two-year colleges and seven state universities, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is the largest single provider of higher education in the state of Minnesota. 58% of the state's undergraduate students attend a Minnesota State College or University. It is the fifth largest system of higher education in the country. The system is comprised of 54 campuses in 47 Minnesota communities, serving more than 430,000 students, with 120,000 students taking non-credit courses and customized training programs designed for businesses. Overall, the system produces 41,700 graduates each year, of whom 81% get jobs in related fields and 80% stay in Minnesota, contributing to the state's economy. MnSCU colleges and universities offer 470 programs and 16,400 courses partially or fully online. 107,100 students took an online course during the 2011-2012 academic year. The system also serves more than 59,900 students of color (more than any other provider of higher education in Minnesota), 26,636 PSEO students and 10,644 Veterans. MnSCU serves more low income students than all of the other higher education providers in the state combined. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is governed by a 15-member Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The Board has policy responsibility for system planning, academic programs, fiscal management, personnel, admissions requirements, tuition and fees, and rules and regulations. http://www.mnscu.edu/board/index.html Chancellor Rosenstone is the chief executive officer of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. He is responsible for providing academic leadership to the system's 31 colleges and universities, ensuring effective and efficient management and operation of the system, carrying out board policies, recommending operating and capital budgets to the board, and planning for the current and long-term educational needs of Minnesota. http://www.mnscu.edu/chancellor/index.html In January of 2012, the MnSCU Board of Trustees adopted a strategic framework for the future of MnSCU. The framework emphasizes the essential role MnSCU plans in growing Minnesota’s economy and opening doors of education opportunity to all Minnesotans. http://www.mnscu.edu/about/strategicplan.html In November of 2012, Chancellor Rosenstone asked three workgroups to advise on the long-term strategies needed to ensure access to an extraordinary education for all Minnesotans; to meet Minnesota’s workforce and community needs; and to deliver the most cost-effective, highest value education. A preliminary draft report strives to chart a path that will initiate broader discussion across all stakeholders to assess whether we have identified the right strategic priorities and strategic directions to position our colleges and universities to thrive. http://www.mnscu.edu/strategicworkgroups/index.html
