President’s Letter David Feight SUMMER 2010 PARK SHORE ASSOCIATION OFFICERS David Feight President 272-4254 Andrew Krause Vice President Dennis Brown Vice President Mary Cone Secretary On behalf of the Board of Directors I am pleased to tell you about the current status of two key objectives for 2010….the park restroom project and the tree plan for Park Shore: Restroom Project: On April 22nd we received approval from the Department of Environmental Protection, which was great news after a six month waiting period. Shortly thereafter we submitted our application to the City of Naples for a variance to the FEMA requirements. FEMA requires that structures in the Ve wind velocity zone, which is where the park is located, be built at an elevation of 12 feet above sea level. That would have been prohibitive. We are delighted City Council, at their June 16 meeting, approved the variance. So, we are now ready to proceed with selecting a contractor and beginning construction. If all goes well from this point the restroom should be completed by the end of the year which should be good news to all of our members. I’d like to point out that the Board has worked diligently to approve a restroom design that is aesthetically in tune with the quality of Park Shore. At the same time we had to balance the cost implications of coastal construction and available funding. At this point we are still approximately $20,000 short. We very much appreciate the monetary contributions from a number of members. We also appreciate your support for the increase in dues we asked for this year to help fund this project. So that we can proceed with construction the Board has approved borrowing from our “emergency” fund of $30,000 which will leave very little to fall back on if there is a hurricane or other unanticipated event. Park Shore Tree Plan: For the last several years the Board has been communicating with the City about our desire to improve the “image” of Park Shore. A key element in our discussions involved “stepping up” the planting of trees in the City right of ways. With considerable help from Jo Ann Smallwood, and cooperation from David Lykins and Joe Boscaglia of the City staff, we have been able to update the tree plan that had been in place for several years. On June 16, City Council approved the revised plan. More importantly, the City has a tree replacement budget for 2010 of $100,000. City Council also approved the vast majority of these funds be directed to Park Shore . Planting is scheduled during the summer and fall, which will result in about 200 new trees in the right of ways of our residential streets. We are sure you will agree that this is a very positive step in enhancing the area of Naples we call home. The entire Board deserves your thanks for these accomplishments. Both required a great deal of time and thought. As a volunteer Board, I can’t imagine a more committed group to represent the property owners in Park Shore. By now you probably know that Michelle McLeod, our Executive Director , will be leaving us at the end of June. She has taken a full time position that will build on the MBA degree she earned in the last several years. Michelle has done an outstanding job and we will miss her. We all wish her much success in her new career and hope she will find time to serve the Park Shore Association on one of our committees. David Feight President Park Shore Association PO Box 1435 Naples, FL 34106-1435 After five years of dedicated and devoted service, Michelle McLeod will be relinquishing her duties as Executive Director for the Park Shore Association. Michelle has accepted a full time job as a personal banker for Encore Bank located near Harbour Drive. In her five years serving as Executive Director, Michelle has played an instrumental part in many new and exciting changes for the association. To list a few, she… • helped move the restroom project to fruition through the initiation of a community survey and through steadfast lobbying efforts • developed a streamline membership process, efficiently and effectively managing the membership database and the collection of membership dues • initiated new ways of communication with the members through emails, e-newsletters, directional signs, website posting, etc. • lead the movement of expanding to a broader variety of community events • initiated and designed the association’s new independent website Join us in thanking Michelle for her committed service to our association. We wish her much success in her new role in our community at Encore Bank.

On behalf of the Board of Directors I am pleased to tell you about the current status of two key objectives for 2010….the park restroom project and the tree plan for Park Shore:

Restroom Project: On April 22nd we received approval from the Department of Environmental Protection, which was great news after a six month waiting period.

At the beginning of 2010, I was honored to head our committee to put a “spark in the park” of Park Shore. With a wonderful group of colleagues including Michelle McLeod, Karen Champion, Gerry Storch and myself, we have enjoyed more time with our Park Shore friends and neighbors both at our beachfront park and nearby businesses. We began our year with the Block Captain's party at D'Amico's where directories and passes are distributed while sharing the excellent food and beverages provided by our neighborhood bistro. Each block captain devotes time throughout the year to ensure members have access for their passes as well as lending an ear to the concerns and requests of our membership. This was a great event to say “thank you” for volunteering your time. Our second planned event had to be cancelled due to inclement weather, which was a movie night under thestars.Lookforthistobere-scheduledinthefallwhenmemberswillbringtheirpicnicandblanketstoour beach park to enjoy a classic movie under the stars. Our annual meeting was held in a new location in February, The Country Club of Naples. We enjoyed a round table venue with community leaders including Mayor Bill Barnett, Police Chief Tom Weschler, Fire Chief Steve McInerny, City Manager Bill Moss, City Council members, John Sorey, Gary Price, Teresa Heitmann and many other city leaders while meeting and greeting over wine and cheese appetizers. The annual Beach Bash was again hampered by cold and windy weather, thus attendance was less than normal, but was made up at the huge success of our Easter Egg Hunt with over 300 of Park Shore's little people and their parents/grandparents enjoying their hunt as well as time with Peter Rabbit.

Our last event of the spring was held at the beginning of May, when time was shared by members and theirfour-leggedfriends,itwasa“dog-dayafternoon”.Theverywell-behaveddogsandtheirownersenjoyed a beautiful spread of yappetizers prepared by Park Shore resident and interior designer, Chrissie Forbes. Raffle prices where provided by Park Shore residents George and Karen Paul, owners and operators of the Wigglebutt Inn located off Pine Ridge Road. Many of the family pets were adorned with their finest apparel and jewels, including outfits fashioned for Kentucky Derby Day. We look forward to sharing more events this fall as our membership returns to the beautiful shores of Park Shore so look for upcoming events and your suggestions are always welcome! When going to the beach through the Park Shore Beach Park, please do

not leave shoes or other personal items on the beach walk. The Gulf Shore

Condominium Association has made this request because

they are concerned about the appearance

of these items on their beach walk.

Thank you so much

for your cooperation.

We are pleased to announce that the new Park Shore Association website is now “live”. Many design hours and material creation transpired into providing our members with a useful communication tool. To stay informed with what’s going on in the neighborhood, visit www.parkshoreassociation.com on a regular basis.

We are pleased to announce that the Naples City Council voted unanimously to rescind its ban on the use of copper sulfate in response to efforts by local residents and the support of the Park Shore Association Board.

This matter was first brought to the Park Shore Association Board at our Annual Meeting. Members of two Park Shore lakeassociations,SwanLakeandDevil’sLake,wereattemptingtohaveaDecember2008Cityordinancereversed,which banned the use of the chemical, copper sulfate, in controlling algae in lakes. The ban had been based on data supporting the supposed harmful effects of copper sulfate on aquatic life.

The residents felt that the ban was not only unenforceable, but based on deeply flawed assumptions regarding the behavior of copper sulfate. The residents had found supporting documentation which indicated that copper sulfate when used in recommended concentrations had been shown to be highly effective in safely maintaining water quality. Withouttheapplicationofcoppersulfate, bothSwanLakeandDevil’sLakewereovergrownwithalgaebeginning in the summer of 2009 and there was concern about both the adverse effects on the quality of life for the home-ownersaswellasthevalueoftheirproperties.

The Park Shore Association Board voted to support the position of the homeowners and issued a direct request to theNaplesCityCouncilthatthisissuebere-visited.AttheCityCouncilmeetingonMay 19, the City Council acceded and the ban on copper sulfate was rescinded.

ThankstoRaymondLutgert’smastermind design, today Park Shore isNaples’onlybeachandboatingcommunity and is known by many as “paradise found”. As residents of Park Shore, we are truly priviledged and richly blessed to live in such a well designed, carefully planned, and sought after community.

Besides being known for his business and real estate accomplishments, Raymond Lutgert is also known for his award winning sculpting abilities that he learned to master later in his life. Throughout Park Shore you can see his amazing talents in the sculptures he donated to our community.

OnFriday,May28,ParkShore’svisionist and developer, Raymond Lutgert passed away peacefully at his home in Naples. A hugely significant philantropist and business genius, Raymond Lutgert began Park Shore with a vision that transformed 760 acres bordering 1 ¼ miles of Naples beachfront into one of the most prestigious communities in all of Florida. The Park Shore community was the first Planned Unit Developoment (PUD) in the entire state and served as a model for subsequent developments.
