Wow….what a story he had to tell. David took us on a journey from the 1st Winner of the Melbourne Cup, Archer, to the story today. For someone so, so busy at this time of year, I certainly appreciated David taking the time to be the Club’s Guest Speaker to make the evening extra special. "But once a year at Flemington A horse race stops us all And we hold our breaths and listen To the commentator’s call For never has there been a race That holds such fascination Than the race they run at Flemington, The Race that stops the nation” Poem by Vivienne McCredie How fortunate it was that David was able to bring the replica of the Melbourne Cup with him last night. This was a very rare treat as we will appreciate as many, many people seek to gain access to both the ‘real’ one as it currently tours Australia & New Zealand, & also this one at this time of year. David also kindly chose the best hat, won by Denis Kosnar & best dressed, Gaye Carriss. Grant Sheldon kindly displayed some of his prized possessions & enlightened us with their history. Spring Racing fever was certainly in the air! Rotary, like the Melbourne Cup, brings so many people together. So many people from every corner of WHAT’S ON NEXT WEEK - DG Peter Frueh’s visit

DELEGATION TO PERU UPDATE

Tuesday 10 October

The delegation joined members of the RC LaMolina for dinner and a cultural show at Las Brisas de Titicaca. We all know a few

more dance moves!!

Wednesday 11 October

The Rotary Club of La Molina showed us two of their school projects. The Club have build a school for special needs children in

Las Vinas (an hour out of Lima).

We then visited Colegio Jardines de Manchay, where they have funded the school buildings and are in the process of building a

second storey on the latest building. The school is in a very poor area of Lima.

These projects have all been funded from fund raising activities. Such wonderful work with very passionate members.

We then headed to lunch at The Rincinada Club. This was a combined Rotary meeting. What a contrast to the

school! Luxurious grounds and facilities at the country club.

Thursday 12 October

We visited St Bernadette's in San Martin de Porres, another very poor area on the other side of Lima.

Tony Coney hosted our visited showing us the three facilities. In the middle of all the dust and dirt is the very spotlessly clean

St Bernadette's.

St Bernadette's are doing fantastic work in supporting the needs of the most disadvantaged children, with no Government

support.

Tony hosted a lunch prepared by the staff at St B's.

Friday 13 October

James Yeomans, Deputy Head of Mission received the delegation and gave an excellent presentation on the work being

undertaken by the Embassy in Peru.

A presentation on our trip will be given at an evening meeting in November, it should be a fun night.

That's all from your roving reporter - over and out.
