Children’s Theatre of Elgin Presents Disney’s Mulan Jr. TravelbackintimetoexoticanddangerousthirdCenturyChinaasChildren’sTheatreofElginpresentsitsdebutproductionofDisney’sMulan,Jr.,ontheHemmensCulturalCenterStageOctober24‐27.

Eighty‐fivestudentsfromtheFoxValleyarearanginginagefrom7to15havebeencastintheproduction,whichfeaturesmanyfavoritesongsfromtheDisneymovieincluding“Reflection,”“HonortoUsAll”and“I’llMakeaManoutofYou,”aswellasnewsongsthataresuretohaveaudiencemembersdancingintheirseats.

ThestoryofMulanissetinthedaysofChina’sHanDynasty,andwhenthemusicalopens,theHunshaveinvadedtheareawhereMulanandherfamilylive.Defyingthevillagematchmaker,Mulantakesuparmsanddisguisesasaboyinordertospareherfatherfromhavingtoserveinthearmy.AstheHunsthreatentheEmperor,it’suptoMulanandhermischievoussidekickMushutosavehim!“Mulanisaninspirationalstoryaboutstayingtruetoyourselfandstandingupforwhatyoubelievein.”said,Producer,AmyZapata.

MulanJr.isdirectedbyfirst‐timeCTEdirectorCatieEarly,whoalsoappearedwithCTEasaperformer.Sheperformedherfirstshowattheageof7,TheLion,theWitchandtheWardrobe.

"Ican'tsayenoughgoodthingsaboutmyexperiencedirectingwithCTE.Thekidsinthecastaresotalentedandfocused.TheparentvolunteershaveconsistentlygoneaboveandbeyondanyexpectationsImighthavehadcomingin.Ican'twaittoshowoffeveryone'shardwork!"Earlysaid.

Sheadded,"ThefiveancestorsinMulanopentheshowbytellingtheaudiencethattheplayisabouthonor,loyalty,strength,destiny,andlove.Iftheaudiencecouldtakeawayjustoneofthoseideasafterseeingtheshow,I'dloveforittobeloyalty.Thiscasthasbeensowillingtostepupandhelpeachother‐groupsrunningthroughchoreographyintheirdowntimeortheolderkidssteppinguptomakesuretheyoungerkidsaresingingtherightpart.Beyondmyprideasadirectorinseeinghowmuchallofthekidshavegrownasactorsthroughoutthisexperience,I'mamazedathowloyaltheyaretoeachother.Ifeelveryluckytohavewitnessedthissmallpartoftheirlives."
