    Main issues of wireless communication

Capacity : The range of a base station islimited.

Efficiency : Base stations consumes a lot of

energy. They are only 5% efficient byrecords.

Availability : Radio waves are not availableeverywhere.

Security : Radio waves are intercepted as itpenetrate through walls.

    LED light bulb

Light Emitting Diodes as a source of

    light (releases large amount of

energy in the form of light)

    Semiconductor material (intensity

can be motivated at a very high

speed & can be switched off at very

    high speed)

Long service life (10-15 years while

    usual bulbs lasts 1-2 years)

    Energy-saving (8W LED bulb

    = 60W ordinary light bulb)

    Economic value

A free band that does not need license. High installation cost but very low

maintenance cost. Cheaper than Wi-Fi.Theoretical speed up to 1 GB per second :

Less time & energy consumption. No more monthly broadband bills. Lower electricity costs. Longevity of LED bulb : saves money. Light doesn't penetrate through walls :

    secured access.

    Li-Fi vs. Wi-Fi

VLC is not in competition with WiFi, it is acomplimentary technology that shouldeventually help free up much needed

space within the radio wave spectrum. You can't have a light bulb that provides

data to a high-speed moving object or toprovide data in a remote area wherethere are trees and walls and obstaclesbehind.

    Future Prospects

This research report categorizes theglobal VLC technology market; based oncomponent, applications, and geography.

Li-Fi uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs)which are rapidly gaining in popularityfor standard lightbulbs and otherdomestic and commercial purposes.

They are expected to be ubiquitous in 20years.

Still under research What will be the effect of

interferences from externallight sources like sun light &normal bulbs?

what about the limitedbandwith of the existingcopper cables used forelectrical connections ?

where do the connectionsuplink, how serious are themodifications needed to the

power grid ? how will other devices react if

you inject a high frequencyinto mains ?
