WHAT IS CONTINUOUS COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION ?

Continuous and Comprehensive evaluation refers to a system of school based assessment that covers all aspects of student’s development

It emphasizes two fold objectives. Continuity in evaluation and assessment of broad based learning.

EvaluationThe scope of evaluation should include both scholastic and co-scholastic

areas, i.e. it should be comprehensive in nature.

Evaluation is continuous and reveals the strengths and weaknesses of learners more frequently, so that the learners have better opportunity to understand and improve themselves.

Formative Assessment :

• End of term written exams

Summative Assessment:

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (FA) It is mandatory that the teachers must use at least 3-4 different assessment tools during the term for each Formative Assessment (FA).Can comprise of :

• Class work• Homework • Oral questions / Class Response• Quizzes• Projects / Group projects • Assignments/ Tests• Unit Test •Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)•Models / Charts / Collage

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT(SA)

Will be Term End Examination:

•Curriculum and syllabus as circulated by the board

•Question papers are sent by the CBSE.

•Exams are conducted by the school

•Evaluation of Answer scripts done within

the school as per the marking scheme sent by the

Board.

Scholastic Areas

There will be two terms in both classes IX & X, the First Term will be from April - September and the Second Term from October – March

Each term will have two Formative & one Summative Assessment. Six assessments are carried out in a session

Scholastic Grading ScaleAssessment will be indicated in Grades.

The CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) will be provided

An indicative equivalence of Grade Point and Percentage of markscan be computed as follows:Subject wise indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 x GP of the subjectOverall indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 x CGPA

Note : The grades for each Co-Scholastic Area is given on the basis of a Checklist provided by the CBSE. Points on scale of 1 to 5 are given for each point and Average is calculated and converted into Grade.

Policy of Up-scaling of Grades in Scholastic areas on the basis of grades obtained in Co-scholastic areas

The following scheme will be followed for up-scaling the grades in Scholastic areas based on grades in Co-Scholastic area.

a)Those Students who get total grade points in co-scholastic areas/ activities in the range 53-65 may benefit by getting upgraded to the next higher grade in two subjects in scholastic areas.

b)Those students who get total grade points in the range 40-52, may benefit by getting upgraded to the next higher grade in one subject in scholastic area.

c)The upscaling of Grade in Scholastic Areas is applicable in the Five Main Subject only (i.e. excluding Additional 6th Subject).

d) No Grade should will be up-scaled twice.

e) No up-scaling is done if the Grade obtained in the subject is E2 or A1.

f) Upscaling is done from lowest grade to next higher grade and so on. (Example : E1 be upscaled to D,

D to C2, C2 to C1, C1 to B2,

B2 to B1, B1 to A2 and A2 to A1)

Promotion Policies• SA1+SA2 = 25% (45 / 180 ) {must not have E2 grade } NOTE : If student is scoring less than 22.5 marks in

SA1 then he has to cover up the balance in SA2 . • FA1 + FA2 = 33 %• FA3 +FA4 = 33%

• Overall Grade(FA + SA) for promotion is D (33%)

• Note – Class IX grades are also shown in the Class X report card issued by the CBSE

‘Problem Solving Assessment’ (CBSE-PSA) Will be held on 18th January, 2014 (Saturday)

It will be compulsory for all students of Classes IX and carry 90 marks. There will be 60 items of MCQ type. It will assess the following areas:-

Quantitative Reasoning (found in mathematics, science and technology)

Qualitative Reasoning (found in humanities, arts and social sciences)

Language Conventions There is no specific syllabus for Problem Solving Assessment (CBSE-PSA). This score will be reflected in one Language( English or Hindi), Mathematics,

Science & Social Science. The same score will be reflected in FA-4 for class IX and Class X.

The students will have the option to improve their PSA Score in Class X, as they can sit for the test with Class IX students of the Session 2013-2014 in January – February 2014. The best scores will be reflected in the final certificate in case of those applying for improvement.

CBSE Students Global Aptitude Index (Class X)

• SGAI is aimed to empower a child with “self knowledge” in terms of the Aptitude and Interest, to enable the child in making informed subjects choices.

• Facilitate the career exploration process of students

• CBSE SGAI is a collection of aptitude indices designed for students of class X in CBSE affiliated schools to broadly assess: -

• Scientific Aptitude• Numerical Aptitude• Social Aptitude• Behavioral Science Aptitude• Art Aptitude• Interest Profile

• A student appears for a simple paper and pencil indicator having multiple choice

items. The total duration of the CBSE SGAI in about 2-2.5 hours.

SGAI will be held in the month of November 2013

OPEN BOOK TEST( Class IX)

• 10 marks for open-text-based assessment (OTBA). • The OTBA section will comprise of text material

accompanied by 2-3 questions based on that text. • The questions based on text will be of higher order

thinking skills requiring students to apply learning to the situations given in the article/ report/ case study and draw inferences/conclusions there from.

• The questions based on the text will be open ended, extrapolative, inferential and look at personal response justifying a point of view.

Be a vigilant, attentive & an aware parent. • Little supervision at home can help the child to get good marks.• Parents must ask the child regarding his subject related problems; • See their notebooks even if you don’t understand the subject. This will

ensure that he completes the class work & home work assigned to him. • Check his diary regularly because it is the communication channel between

you & the teacher. • The work of your ward should be up to mark. Make sure that assignments

& tasks given are submitted on time.• You should ensure that he prepares & follows the Home Time Table

regularly. • Incase tuition is required be aware about the tutor & regularly check the

progress & regularity of the child. • Presents like Mobile phones & Motor cycle do more harm than good. Even

if you felt the need to give it to the child, be watchful as to how the child is using them, such as go through the summary of the phone calls & be alert regarding the same
