CLASS IX-X APRIL-JUNE NEWS LETTER DPS MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL has the tagline- ‘A school with a difference.’ It upholds this ta- gline in the events conducted for the students as well as the staff. It is very much evident that the school always strive for the holistic development of the students. Through this newsletter we will be able to witness the same. BITS AND BYTES We may not be able to prepare the fu- ture for our children, but we can at least prepare our children for the future. With this in mind, we are pleased to release the first edition of Grade IX and X Newslet- ter 2021-22, which throws light on the events happened in the school in the first term. We have put in our best efforts to main- tain a strong communication between the school and the home, so that parents are bet- ter equipped to assist their child at home. We have completed the first term successfully, by giving equal importance to academics and activi- ties. It’s the combined effort of the teachers and parents which help in providing quality education to the students. The students at DPS Modern Indian School are blessed with caring teachers and parents. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the parents for their support in bringing out the best in our students. My advice to students is that they should set a sched- ule for regular studies. Studying should be a part of the student's daily routine, not something he or she tries to cram in the night before a test. Students should parse out their study time over the course of the week, rath- er than letting due dates dictate their study time. Also they should take keen interest in the activities as they are an integral part of their well-rounded personality. ACADEMICS-2021-22•The academic year 2021-22, commenced on March 1 for the new batch of Class X and on April 5 for Class IX. This year also the class-es started online as per the instructions is-sued by the Ministry of Education. The teach-ers as well as the students we riveted to meet each other through the electronic medium as we all are still under the threat of Covid 19.

•After three weeks of academic training, Weekly Test 1 was conducted through the Microsoft Teams and Zoom platform from April 26, 2021 under the vigilant surveillance of dedicated teachers.

•Parent-Teacher online meeting was also steered on the same platform on 2 & 3 on June 2021, were both the parties had fruitful discussions on the welfare of each student.

ACTIVITIES

‘Nothing can stop you if you have a strong will to succeed.’This statement is high-lighted through the activities conducted by our school. The E-Bulletin board and the different competitions conducted for the stu-dents show their enthu-siasm to compete with each other and suc-ceed in all endeavors.

DEBATERS FROM DPS-MODERN IN-DIAN SCHOOL AT-TENDED A WORK-SHOP ON "COVID -19 VACCINATION POLICY"

DPS-Modern Indian School debaters, Prithwiraj Purkait, Daiwik Dhar, Mehull Girdhar, Govind Krishna, Krish Nagrani, Antara Shailesh Alurkar, Geetika Yala-manchili, Vaidehi Rogiye, Anah Mer-chant, Drishti Tibrewal, Asin Ashraf Ayinikunnan and their coach Ms. Jaya Majumder participated in an online workshop on "Covid-19 vaccination pol-icy", conducted by Mr. Shahryar Rana on 23rd March, 2021 in collaboration with Qatar Debate.The session discussed about vaccine terminology, potential sources of mistrust, misinformation, ethics of vaccine policy and vaccine di-plomacy. Various mock debatesduring the session provided a deeper under-standing of the topic and gave the de-batersan opportunity to exhibit their analytical skills. Over all, it was an infor-mative session and added to the knowl-edge and experience of the debaters.

DPS-MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL DEBATERS AT "STYLE AND CHARAC-

TERIZATION WORK-SHOP"

DPS-Modern Indian School's debat-ers Jaefar Shameem, Azhar Jaleel Muhammed, Aryan Dubey, Aarav Bedi, Sparsh Chowdhary, Pratyush, Deepa Kale, Victoria Apolonio Hon-oridez, Priyal Dhade, Soha Ali, Nan-dini Nautiyal, Tianna Samal along with their coach attended an infor-mative workshop 'Style and Charac-terization, held on 23rd March 2021 for all the Qatar Debate National participants from both schools and universities. The resource person Ms. Ameera Moore explained and clari-fied all of the common misconcep-tions about style and characteriza-tion with the help of presentations, informative videos, and exercises. The debaters learned new approach-es to debate, how to structure a case, and how to connect major topics, all while presenting them in style.Later they applied their knowledge and understanding in the practical session.Altogether, it was a fruit-ful learning experience and would help the debaters in the upcom-ing Nationals. The online workshop was conducted from Malaysia in collaboration with Qatar Debate.

DPS-MIS SENIOR BOYS CROWNED WITH ITS FORMER GLORY AT NATIONALS 2021

DPS-Modern Indian School Boys team excelled and regained the champions' title at Qatar Secondary Schools Debating Championship 2020-2021 for Boys organized by QatarDebate from 28th to 30th March 2021. It was indeed a proud moment as DPS-MIS dexterous debaters doughtily fought the battle of words and walked away with the Running Trophy. After qualifying all elimina-tion and Pre-Quarter Final rounds, DPS-Modern Indian School team debated against DeBakey High School team in the Grand Final round and claimed the coveted title. Jaefar Shameem was adjudged as the best speaker.DPS-MIS boys were also declared 'League Champion' which enabled them to bring back the 'Running Trophy' home. Addding to the glory, in the individual category, Jae-far Shameem and Sparsh Chowdhary won the 'top speaker' position followed by Aarav Bedi, Vidit Dalal, Azhar Jaleel Muhammed and Sajish Sajan Varghese.

DPS-MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL DEBATERS ATTENDED A WORKSHOP ON REBUTTAL -

2021-22

A Qatar debate workshop on ‘Rebuttal’ was attended by the

debaters and coach of DPS- Modern Indian School Ms. Jaya

Majumber on 24th March 2021 via Zoom. The instructor, Ms.

Amanda Chan helped students improve their refutation skills.

The session discussed different types of rebuttals and their ef-

fective usage in different situations. Different layering of re-

buttals, integration of one rebuttal with another, integration of

rebuttals in speeches and arguments, different kinds of Point

of Information, logical fallacies and their connection with

the debate were the main learning points for the attendees.

DPS MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL DEBATERS AT-TENDED A WORKSHOP

ON DEBATING ECO-NOMICS - 2021-22

DPS-Modern Indian School debat-ers, Aryan Dubey, Azhar Jaleel Mu-hammed, Aritra Ghosh, Yash Sah, Aditya Jain, Prithwiraj Purkait, Dai-wik Dhar, Mehull Girdhar, Govind Krishna, Nikkil Dcruz, Krish Nagrani, Pratyush and their coach Ms. Jaya Majumder participated in an on-line workshop on the topic "De-bate Economics", conducted by Ms. Amanda Chan on 21st April 2021 in collaboration with Qatar Debate.The workshop commenced with the discussion on GDP, a good metric to measure economic development fol-lowed by circular flow model, ratio-nal choice theory, EFI- the tragedy of the commons and types of econom-ics. The resource person provided in-depth knowledge about different types of economies and their impact on the societies. The debaters were asked to give their opinions on how the government should respond to the current economic downturn. This gave them a chance to express their opinions and ideas as well as put into practice whatever they had learned. It was as a part of Qatar Debate’s Ramadan Training Series.

DPS-MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL DEBATERS AT-TENDED A SESSION ON SOCIAL JUSTICE IN SOUTH - 2021-22

DPS- Modern Indian School debat-ers, Anah Merchant, Drishti Tibrewal, Vaidehi Rogiye, Geetika Yalaman-chilli, Antara Alurkar, Manjushree Magesh, Asin Ashraf, Ishita Golash and Sharvi Patwardhan attended a workshop on “Social justice in South” with their coach Jaya Majum-der on 26th April 2021 via Zoom or-ganized by Qatar Debate as a part of the Ramadan Training Session. The resource person Mr. Pragyan Acharya from Nepal briefed the at-tendees on evolution of Social Justice in the South Asia, specifically India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. He explained about the colo-nial history, invocation of the spirit of activism, various protests during colonial times and freedom struggle movement. There were also referenc-es about the recent protests that con-tinue in the spirit of gaining social jus-tice. Lastly, its relevance to debating

DPS-MIS AWARDED AROUND 200 SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH SCHOLAR BADGE AND PROFI-CIENCY AWARDS IN AN ONLINE CEREMONY 2020-21

In all its glory and grandeur, DPS-Modern Indian School organized ‘Aca-demic Award Ceremony’ to felicitate the meritorious students from Classes VIII, IX and XI (2020-21) for their outstanding academic merit and excel-lence on May 8, 2021. It was a virtual event and a total of 199 were awarded with certificates, badges and medals on their well-deserved success that they have achieved through sheer perseverance, grit and determination.The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest Mr. Rocky Fernandes, Director DPS-Modern Indian School, Principal Ms. Asna Nafees, Vice Principals Ms. Soma Bhat-tacharjee, Ms. Mary Cruz and Ms. Shifa Shaikh, Headmistresses Ms. Sini Menon and Ms. Najla Bukhari, coordinators, proud parents and the young achievers.

Principal, Ms. Asna Nafees commended the efforts of the students and the teachers for their distinctive performance despite the challenges and un-certainty throughout the year. ‘DPS-Modern Indian School believes in bet-tering the best and makes every effort to hone the multifarious skills of the students and help them realize their potential’, she stated and advised the students to stay positive and remain dedicated to their educational pursuits. She also thanked the parents for being one of the strongest pillars of edu-cation during these unprecedented times and expressed her gratitude to-wards the management members for their constant support and guidance.The Chief Guest, Mr. Rocky Fernandes, Director DPS-Modern Indian School extolled the students for their enthusiasm, resilience and dexterous ef-forts which helped them achieve a milestone and advocated the need of upholding values, coping up with the changing world and being grateful to all involved in the journey of life. ‘DPS-Modern Indian School aims high and its aims are driven by its vision and motto ‘service before self’ with these words, he encouraged them to focus on the ideals set by the institu-tion and use their success to benefit, inspire and influence other students.

As a part of the Ramadan Training Se-ries, QatarDebate conducted a workshop on "Capitalism and Social Movements", via zoom which was attended by DPS-Modern Indian School debaters, Aryan Dubey, Azhar Jaleel Muhammed, Aritra Ghosh, Yash Sah, Aditya Jain, Prithwiraj Purkait, Daiwik Dhar, Mehull Girdhar, Go-vind Krishna, Surya Kauthik, Nikkil Dcruz and Krish Nagrani along with their coach Ms. Jaya Majumder on 3rd May 2021.

The resource person, Ms. Amanda Chan introduced the debaters to the idea of capitalism and social justice move-ments before delving into plenty of il-lustrations and real-life circumstances to consolidate these ideas. Common ground between the economic sys-tem of capitalism, advantages of the symbiotic relationship, normalization of marginalized communities were discussed along with the harmful ef-fects of dissimilarity in structure and objectives on historically marginal-ized groups and their progression.

DPS-MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL GIRLS ATTEND WORKSHOP ON DEBATING ENVIRONMENT - 2021-22

DPSModern Indian School debaters, Anah Merchant, Drishti Tibrewal, Vaidehi Rogiye, Geetika Yalamanchilli, Antara Alurkar, Manjushree Magesh, Asin Ashraf and Ishita Golash along with their coach Ms. Jaya Majumder attended an online workshop on ‘Debating Environment’ organized by QatarDebate as a part of the Ramadan Training Session on 05th May, 2021. The resource person Ms. Amanda Chan while introducing the at-tendees to environment and climate change, discussed about the disparities in the world due to the political influence on envi-ronment and shared information about the link between econ-omy and environment and increasing climatic activism. A brief discussion on how the Covid-19 pandemic is reviving the dying en-vironment was an opportunity for the debaters to share their ideas.

DPS-MIS ALUMNUS FARHAN AS TRAINER FOR QD NATIONAL - 2021-22

Eleven Junior debaters from DPS Mod-ern Indian School along with their coach, Ms. Jaya Majumder attended a workshop on ‘Motion Preparation’ con-ducted by Qatar Debate on April 1 and April 8, 2021. The resource person, right before the National Championship, was Farhan Sakkir, an alumnus of DPS-Modern Indian School who is currently working as a trainer at Qatar Debate.

The workshop started with a debate to obtain a general understanding of the motion. The interactive discussion helped the debaters understand the main themes and equipped them with strategies to build a stronger case. Mr. Farhan highlighted the general flaws in the case of both the sides and gave feedback and pointers to improve strengthen the case.

DPS-MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL APPRECIAT-ED AND FELICITATED STAFF FOR THEIR 10 AND 15 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE - 2021-22

DPS-Modern Indian School organized the Staff Felicitation Cere-mony on June 9, 2021 to acknowledge and appreciate the dedica-tion and commitment of its teaching and non-teaching staff who have rendered more than a decade of commendable service to the institution. The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, Mr. Hassan Chougule, President DPS-Modern Indian School, Mr. Yasir Nainar, Vice President, Mr. Harish Kanjani, Director Facilities, Principal, Ms. Asna Nafees, Vice Principals, Headmistresses and coordinators.Vice President, Mr. Yasir Nainar appreciated the teachers for their quick adaptability to changes required during global cri-sis and sustain quality education which DPS-Modern Indian School is known for. His piece of advice to all staff members was to take joys and sorrows in their strides, value each moment, and continue making positive difference in the lives around. Chief Guest, Mr. Hassan Chougule, President DPS-Modern Indi-an School, congratulated the awardees and expressed his joy to celebrate and recognize the devoted service of these individu-als. ‘This is the celebration of trust and partnership and speaks volumes about the healthy work culture at the institution’, he said and encouraged the attendees to go above and beyond the call of duty to get the true dividends of their investments.Principal, Ms. Asna Nafees, in her address, stated that every member of the DPS-Modern family strongly believes in con-tinual development and strives for excellence. She extolled the teachers for their loyalty and allegiance and thanked the management for their support in promoting an ethi-cal, diverse, equal and inclusive environment at the school.30 teaching and non-teaching staff members received the to-ken of appreciation for their long years of service. Principal Ms. Asna Nafees, the awed architect of DPS-Modern Indian School’s success received this award on completion of 10 years with the institute. Among the current principals, she is the longest serving principal of any of the CBSE schools in Qatar.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

DPS-MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL TEACHING AND ADMIN STAFF DONATE GENEROUSLY FOR SCHOOL SUPPORT STAFF - 2021

DPS-Modern Indian School, abiding by its motto ‘service before self’, is com-mitted to serve the community with a sense of ‘giving back and ‘making a positive difference’ in the lives around!As a part of its community welfare pro-gram, DPS-Modern Indian School dis-tributed Iftar food packets and 7005 kgs of rice to 185 of its support staff mem-bers which included drivers, conductors, cleaners and security personnel during the Holy month of Ramadan. This com-passionate act was an appreciation and acknowledgement of the unfailing and untiring efforts of the support team in the smooth functioning of the school. It was well-received by them and they were highly appreciative of this kind act.

WEBINAR CARRIER COUNSELLING EVENT ON CHARTERED

ACCOUNTANY - 2021-22DPS Modern Indian School conducted a virtual workshop on “Ca-reer Counselling Event on Chartered Accountancy” in association with Doha Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on 29 May 2021, Saturday from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm on Zoom platform.

The event started with the key note address of Mr. Yasir Nainar, Vice Presi-dent of DPS Modern Indian School, who expressed his sincere admiration to the profession of Chartered Accountants and expressed his hope that this event would definitely inspire the students to be the aspirants of this course.Mrs. Asna Nafees, Principal, DPS Modern Indian School addressed the session by stating the initiative taken by DPS MIS in providing educa-tion beyond academics-giving real life experiences to the students.

Mr.Jay Chhaira highlighted the importance of Chartered Accountants in the society, the dignity of the profession, combining C.A with technology and Management and the need of grabbing the opportunity at the earliest.Mr. Kamlesh Tibrewal provided a detailed presentation on the various fea-tures of the C.A Course like the duration of the course, the opportunities, campus placement, the gateway to the profession, the foundation exam and concluded with the names of people who have succeeded in this profession. Overall the session was very informative, motivational and in-spired the students to be the aspirants of Chartered Accountant Profession.

DPS-MIS ORGANISED BLOOD DONATION DRIVE WITH HMC

2021-22

'Blood donation is the greatest act of kindness and at a time where the world is facing one of the biggest health cri-ses, it is fundamental to donate blood and save lives.' With these thoughts in mind, DPS-Modern Indian School, in col-laboration with Hamad Medical Centre (HMC), hosted its annual blood donation drive in its premises on 10th June, 2021.The day-long drive was a testament to the institution’s commitment to strengthen the social fabric and consol-idate the honorable values. It received an overwhelming response from all the staff members and was a huge success. Hamad Medical Centre appreciated the initiative and enthusiasm of the DPS-Modern Indian School employees.'We will continue to associate ourselves with such initiatives in the near future,' commented Principal Ms. Asna Nafees.

The school will close for summer vacation on 24 June 2021 and will reopen for Grade IX & X on 22Au-gust 2021 asper the scheduled academic calendar. The entire DPS family wishes all our students a pleasant break from the academics and wel-comes back to school for blended learning.
