Dear Families of Immaculate Heart of Mary, In his hometown synagogue, Jesus’ neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Surely the people know who he is. The carpenter’s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street. Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Elijah and Elisha the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God’s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all. In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul reminds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In today’s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus’ mission cannot be contained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new challenges. We are called to this same perseverance in the name of love. As the first month of 2019 is already behind us we must focus on our purpose to reach out to our community to serve. Our Parish mission “With Mary, we seek to know Christ better and to make him better known through our words and actions.” Our youth and adults with Fr. Quang arrived safely back to IHM from WYD. Thank you for the prayers for their safe journey and the experience to deepen their faith. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us Father Quang
Padre Quang

Don’t miss these upcoming Guest Speakers for Teens and Parents! Our Confirmation Program will be hosting a Nationally Recognized Young Adult Missionary Team called the Culture Project. Speakers are all recent college grads formed in Catholic Social Teaching and committed to a vibrant lived faith, Missionaries give dynamic presentations on the virtue of chastity, the importance of marriage and family, and the dignity of every human life to high school students and young adults. These talks are open to ALL high school teens (grade 9 and up) and young adults and parents regardless of enrollment in Confirmation. Friday, February 15, 2019, 7 pm in the Hall - Social Media Talk With the advent of modern technology, smart phones, and social media our world has changed forever. How do we navigate this new social landscape that no generation has had to navigate before? Designed to follow up our Human Dignity and/or Sexual Integrity presentations, this presentation will engage students in a dialogue about how to integrate virtue and excellence into their use of Social Media. We discuss how our use of media can either contribute to or endanger our personal happiness, our relationships, and the type of person we ultimately become. We share the great benefits to using social media, as well as how to avoid some of its biggest downfalls, such as comparison, isolation, inauthenticity, even habits like cyber-bullying and sexting. Through the use of stories, cultural examples, and personal witness, we invite students to consider their own use of media and how we can all utilize the incredible tools that our modern day offers to become a force for good in our communities and become people who leave a lasting positive impact on our world. (Parents invited to come and listen in to this talk as details of this talk will not be covered in the parent gathering on January 23rd). For more information on any of these talks please contact ihmyouth@ihmbrentwood. com
