Gears are mechanical components that
function transmitting power and motion
between axis.
Gear can also change the direction of
rotation and changing the rotational motion
into linear motion.
Gear is a component of the machinery that
is used in various industries such as:
automotive industries, coal industry plants,
steel plants industry, paper industry, etc.
Gear is usually used with two basic
objectives:
1. Raise or lower the rotational speed
2. Raise or lower the power (power) or
torque (torque)

circle is called the pitch diameter. Gears size is
usually specified by a pitch circle diameter

Basic Design of Gears
Will be discussed on the basis of the design of the gear
set global nature generally applicable to all types of gears.
Groove gear design is the design flow of Niemann
method. Groove design is discussed both globally and
detail.
Design Concept Gear
An understanding of the methods of designing gear will
not be done well if the students are less familiar with the
failures that occurred on gears is as follows:
Tooth Breakage
The occurrence of tooth fractures due to weak force is
main gear legs. The design is based on the strength of the
tooth foot fatigue strength (fatigue strength) of the
material. This is due to the load acting on the tooth contact
in the form of dynamic load.
Pitting
The occurrence of pitting or rupture of the tooth surface is
due to the lack of durability of the tooth surface. This
occurs because the work load is in the form of shock
loads of clashes between the two surfaces of the teeth.
