ABSTRACTThis paper reports on Automatic room light, fan and fire detection alarm system using arduino microcontroller technology that can save electricity Mostly, we leave the room and hall without switching off lights and fans thus electricity is wasted In this work we have presented a system that automatically switch ON and OFF the light and fan in a room and display the number of people entering in or leaving out of the room on LCD

If there is no person in the room, then light and fan will be switched OFFusing LDR we can increase or decrease the intensity of light depending upon the lighting condition.Simultaneously the speed of the fan can be varied using pulse width modulation techniqueA temperature sensor to measure the temperature of the room and heat sensor and smoke sensor module is used for detecting smoke which is expose to fire in the room and provides an alarming using buzzer

CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION

Background of the studyIn our country especially in rooms switching on or off electrical lights and fans is still commonly made by manual switchesHence, people are becoming so busy that they forgot to turn off switches after leaving the room The world temperature is increasing rapidly so a new technology is required to adapt to this varying temperature The need for automatic system is the concern of todays technology1

7

Today, the automated systems are effective approach forReducing energy consumption Change in temperature to control room cooling system Reducing cost to count the number of persons present in the roomAt the same time controls the lighting system and temperature of the same room provides alternative solution to problems posed by manual switching systems

2

Statement of the problemIn most rooms, manual systems are used A person forget to turn off the lights and fan when leaving the roomSo there is wastage of power The fire alarm system employed could not have alarm in case of fire accident occursThe goal is to use electricity without wastage Designing safe environment for human being

3

Objective of the studyThe general objective of the study is: To design an automatic room light, fan and fire detection alarm system with visitor counterThe specific objectives are:To design a controller model to count the number of visitors in room, light up the room based on light intensity & cooling systemsfire detection alarm system using heat and smoke detector To develop and simulate the systemSimple to use without human interference

4

Significance of the studysaving amount of power especially for public areas for industry offices and hall rooms in our university5

Frame work of the studyThe theoretical framework used in the study follows the input process output relationship as shown in Figure below

6

Scope of the project

The study covers the design and development of an automatic room light, fan and fire detection alarm system with visitor that operated by using sensors through electronic switch simulation. ardunio 1.0.5 for C Programming language Proteus for hardware circuit design7

limitation of the studyno time delay between two persons entering or leaving the room arduino microcontroller will sense as one person it has also some drawback listed as follow: Sometimes the controller may fail to work according to the programming our project is not control the fire after flame occurredMachine elements computational design and other mathematical functionality model are not included in the study8

CHAPTER 2LITERATURE REVIEWThe information gathered in this chapter provides compelling motivation to pursue the study due to the benchmark information that reflects meritorious works and scholarly studies conducted that are relevant to room light, fan and fire alarm control system

9

Previous research on the topic1.automatic room light controllerThe previous work on this controller is lighting the room when person come in the room

2. Temperature Controlled FanHigh power supply was given to the Fan with out speed control

3. Fire detection alarm systemthe purpose of fire alarm system is to detect fire

10

The previous existing system makes use of manual controllers like switcheswork as ON/OFF andAll systems were done individuallyThus Listed above literature review has some drawback high cost because of wastage of electricity

To overcome this problem further investigation is necessary

11

Our project is applicable for rooms where controlling lighting, fan and fire detection alarm system along with visitor counterWe modified the existing system by adding LDR for light control We add pwm for controlling the speed of fanThis system has advantages of decreasing cost and suitable for any room which have either single door or more

Basic Block Diagram of the system

Block diagram of automatic room light, fan and fire detection alarm system

25

Our designs components are grouped into the following units in the block diagram above FigureInput UnitPower supply UnitArduino Microcontroller UnitOutput Unit

Input Unit1.LDR & comparator LDR is used to measure the light intensity during day time and nightcomparator as ADC16

17

2.Temperature sensor (LM35)senses the room temperature The speed of the fan is controlled by using PWM technique according to the room temperatureThe value is displayed on liquid crystal display.

18

28

3.IR sensorsUsed to detect the people who are entering or leaving in the roomIR sensors allow you to sense motion, almost always used to detect whether a human has moved in or out of the sensors rangeThey are small, inexpensive, low-power, easy to use and don't wear out

19

203.Smoke sensorused in fire alarm systems to detect smoke the fire accident

Arduino microcontroller unit used for controlling the whole process of the system read signals from sensors and send commands to all output componentsOutput UnitLCDto display all the information required for the system

21

Alarm circuitconsists of the buzzer speaker with relay produces sound when signal is sent to smoke detector sensor or when there is overheating in the room

22

Lamp and Relay Driver Relay driver section consist a transistor and a 5 volt relay for controlling the light bulb

23

DC FAN with L293D driverDC FAN works if temperature sensor value is greater than or equal to 27 degree Celsius Its speed is controlled by using PWML293D driver IC is used to control the dc fan motor with ease and to drive it efficiently

Conclusion and RecommendationConclusionUnlike typical lighting system which consumes large amount of power this system is able to minimize the power consumption It will help to reduce the wastage of electricity when no one is there in room the appliances will be offIf the data on display unit is zero the security guards can shut the gate easilyWhole system work automatically so it reduces the human work

27

Automatic speed control of fan based on room temperature using PWMno need for regulating the speed manuallyFire alarm system is simulated according to messages from smoke sensor or heat sensor gets activation high

28

RecommendationThe system still can be improved for a future developmentExtending the system of room with multiple exits/entrances by employing several sensorsadd a system that switch on the water sprinkler as soon as fire is detected in the roomUse GSM phones to identify everywhere the fire occurred

42Why DC Fanin recent years however, DC technology has become more sophisticated to the extent that it can be applied to both residential and industrial ceiling fans.Consumes less powerMinimal electromagnetic interferenceDC fans generally use lessvoltage than AC fansDC fans actually produce faster spinning on high speeds= better airflowAC fans generate much more noise than DC fans
