Los Álamos INSTITUTO DE CAPACITACIÓN

The “Instituto de Capacitación Los Álamos” is a social institution which is autonomous, apolitical, private and non-profit making. It was founded in 1961 by a group of parents whose children had cognitive disabilities. The institute provides an integrated service to help children towards inclusion and protection. They aim to provide health care services. All the programs interact to restore and guarantee the quality of life for the children, their families and communities.   Since the 24th January 2007, Los Álamos has been certificated by ISO 9001:2000

PRESENTATION

INSTITUTO DE CAPACITACIÓN LOS ÁLAMOS

The professionals who provide services are: physiotherapists, speech therapists, nutritionists and dietitians, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers and teachers. We also have 25 people dedicated to administrative tasks.

“Los Álamos” attends children, young people and adults with cognitive disabilities such as: convulsive syndrome, attention deficit, behavioral problems, cerebral motor impairment and psychiatric disorders, among others.

BENEFICIARIES

APPROPIATE STIMULATION. Program directed at children between 0 and 4 years old. It aims to optimize the personal development of every child in accordance with his characteristics and abilities. FUNCTIONAL ENPOWERMENT. Directed at children between 4 and 14 years old. To take preventative actions, pedagogic and therapeutic interventions. Seeks to improve the ability to adapt the academic functions which allow appropriate performance in different environments.

OCCUPATIONAL EMPOWERMENT. Directed at people with cognitive disabilities from 15 years old upwards. To develop and maintain occupational behavior specifically by guided discovery, that benefits functional performance for themselves, their family and all society. SUBSTITIUTE HOMES- DISABLED AND SPECIAL NEEDS. Protection program through the Colombian Institute for family welfare “Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar (ICBF)” which temporarily houses a child in danger or abandoned where they provide the necessary care and guarantee the fundamental rights.

INCLUSIVE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT. This program is directed at children and young people with educational needs that exist within the education system. Through pedagogic and therapeutic strategies they search for strength in the education system in equal opportunities. SPECIALIST ATTENTION. Directed at disabled children and adults who are in a permanent dependent situation. Involves therapeutic and high intensity educational support. The foundation of this program is the criteria for the quality of life.

MULTIDISCIPLINE EVALUATIONS Service that seeks to clearly diagnose and profile the person in need, by one or more experts which allows the design of a plan for intervention.   CONSULTANCY AND CAPABILITY We act as consultants for similar organizations and other institutes with similar needs.

BOARDING SCHOOL. Service that responds to the needs of the patients who have to be permanently separated from their families and communities or for those whose specific needs require specialist attention, where they find the appropriate place to develop.    OUTPATIENTS. The attention to the patients from Monday to Friday with fixed schedules.   FLEXIBLE OPENING. Programs with special hours that suit the needs of the user and their families.

TYPES OF ATTENTION

“LAZOS DONANTES DE AMOR” - DONORS WITH LOVE. Family volunteers accompany the disabled children socially in situations where they have been abandoned and are looked after by “Los Alamos”. The families look after them and give them the opportunity to participate in family activities.    “PROYECTO ASÍS” PROJECT ASIS. Through different activities, professionals from Los Alamos and parents and families of those supported by the institution collect money to help other families to benefit that don´t have the resources to buy medicine for their children or pay for transport.
