Transcript of Preliminary Detailed Design Review P15080 Flow Culture System November 13, 2014.
Engineering Requirements● No changes have been made since last
meeting● Document is under change control● Most important ERs are:
o Shear Stresso Assembly Timeo Size of Flow Channel
EDGE Link
System Model/Architecture/Design
Growth chamber design changes:o Minor updates to system architecture
diagram and interfaces documento Generated new 3-D model of growth chambero Verified chamber can be integrated into
systemo Verifying lid thickness and attachment

Bolts
● Aluminum 6061 10” x 2.5” x 0.5” body sandwiched by two layers of 0.25” polycarbonate
● 1 mm x 1 mm rubber gasket fits around channel, bolts keep lid pressed down to seal top of channel
● 1 mm x 2 mm rubber gasket fits around either slide recession, tight fit of slides maintains a seal on bottom of channel
● Four 0.25” bolts run through corners of chamber and keep the system together, used with wing nuts to be tightened manually
Growth Chamber Connections
Threaded Inlet/Outlet Holes
Threaded Luer
Adapter
Male Luer Adapter
3-Way Stopcock
Female Luer
Adapter
● All components are polycarbonate and are autoclavable● Threaded Luer adapters fit into the chamber inlet and outlet holes● The threaded Luer adapters connect to a male or female Luer adapter each (both
are compatible)● A short section of tubing will be attached next● A female or male Luer adapter connects to both open tubing ends● 3-way stopcocks connect to the Luer adapters, oriented as needed (to
accommodate a male or female adapter)● A second 3-way stopcock will be added to each side● The appropriate Luer adapter (opposite of the last type used) connects to the open
stopcocks● The system’s inlet and outlet tubes can now connect to these adapters and connect
the growth chamber
Feasibility Analysis: Flow
Conclusion:Design is feasible!
● Reaches 2 Pa requirement
Pump requirements confirmed.
● Flow range● Tubing Size
Risk Analysis ● Risk is decreasing nicely● Largest Risks
○ Control of pump○ Sterility○ Incubator/Pump
Interface● All risks that had a
deadline of 11/13/14 to be driven to zero are zero
● Linked parts on BOM to Risk Analysis
● Linked risks to feasibility models○ Some feasibility still
in progress● Linked risks to Test Plans
To Do:● Deflection Discussion with SME
o Develop COMSOL deflection model and verify Analytical Model
● Final Drawingso Draft Final Drawingso Brinkman evaluation of tolerances/design and
quote● Quotes and Purchase Orders and Lead Times
o Tubing, Luers, Stopcocks● Begin Pump Testing
o Locate Tubing within BME Dept.
Efficiency● Average Efficiency Last Phase:70%● Average Efficiency This Phase: 89%
Overall efficiency has improved this phaseo Realistic Deadlineso Better communication
● Ways to Improve Furthero Consider other coursework when setting
deadlines
Initial Budget and BOM● Ordered Pump● Total Projected Budget is $957.65
o Need to request quoteso Need to finalize shipping costs and discounts
● Parts linked to risks● Part numbers linked to design
drawings
Link
Assembly Process● Previously completed a preliminary
assembly procedure● Revisions to account for growth
chamber design changes● Likely will be adjusted during
construction in MSD II
Test Plan Outline● Added two test plans
o Tubing in Incubator Dooro Blockage of Flow-Ajar Microscopes
● Plan to add more as ideas come and materials arrive
