• Built in the 9th century

• A complex of a palace, church, and office & residential buildings

• Has been the seat of the Bohemian kings and, now, the presidents

• We visit it on May 10

• Features 4 tall spires

• Oldest organ in Prague housed in this church

• Fun Fact: The church was struck by lightning once!

• Modern building completed in 1996

• Was a controversial building because it is nestled between historical buildings with contrasting architectural styles (built in the deconstructivist or New Baroque style)

• Built at the sight of a house bombing in 1945

• Installed in 1410, making it OVER 600 YEARS OLD

• 3 components:

• Astronomical dial: position of sun & moon as well as Zodiac symbols

• hourly clockwork show featuring figure of death striking time

• calendar dial with medallions representing the months

• Local legend: city will suffer if clock is neglected, affirmed by the skeleton nodding its head

• Light show featured on the 600th anniversary!
