Suggestion 60 Day Rule

Wedneday, July 24 is Amelia Earhart day. This day celebrates the birth of the famous avia-tion pioneer who broke many early aviation re-cords. Legend and mystery surrounds the final flight and disappearance of Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan. They were on a re-cord setting attempt to fly around the world, when they became lost in the Pacific Ocean. On July 2, 1937, they headed on a difficult leg of the journey towards Howell Island in the Pacific. Weather con-ditions were less than ideal. While still in radio com-munication, ships on the ground confirmed that Earhart was having difficulty finding the island. Ulti-mately, radio communications faded and died. The plane was never heard from again. The disappearance of Amelia Earhart's plane resulted in the largest search and rescue operation to date. It also sparked rumors as to what caused the disappearance. To this day, the-ories and speculation still exists about the cause of the disappearance. Some theories involve con-spiracies, and even alien abductions. Did you Know? The proper spelling of her name is Amelia. It was misspelled in a song about her, and is now the more popular, albeit incorrect, spelling of her name. About the Airplane: The airplane Amelia Earhart flew on her fateful journey, was a Lockheed Mod-el 10 Electra. It was best known as "The Flying Lab-oratory".

Amelia Earhart Day Summer MFG Camp

The students of the summer MFG camps visited our plant on Thursday, July 11. They were hosted by Rene Amador and Brendan Herrera of the Defi-ance GM Latino Network. They enjoyed a tour of plant 2 that showed the process of producing a Gen block from Core Room to Finishing.

The summer MFG camps are part of Senator Brown’s workforce initiative. Currently there are 19 counties in Ohio that are offering this type of camp to youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. It is a combi-nation of exploring what modern manufacturing is and how we can help change the perception that is still out there regarding your grandpa’s old, dirty, dark factory. Defiance County’s workforce development manager, Carla Hinkle is taking charge of these camps and getting the county youth into manufacturing places to see for them-selves what is being made and how. This year, two camps were held at both ends of the county with the Defiance, Tinora and Ayersville students get-ting the pleasure of exploring General Motors. They also went to Spangler Candy Company, B & B Molded Plastics, Four County Career Center Construction lab, Nemco Foods and Miller Broth-ers Construction. The students and chaperones were very busy learning about manufacturing.

A suggestion must be in writing and submitted on an official UAW‑GM Suggestion Plan form, (paper or electronically in the on-line system), prior to im-plementation, or WITHIN THE FIRST 60 DAYS AFTER IMPLEMENTATION. If the suggestion is submitted after 60 days, it will not be eligible for an award. Do not leave your suggestion with a group lead-er for them to turn in. It is your responsibility to turn your suggestion in to the Suggestion Department.

A Favor To Ask, It Only Takes A Minute...

Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Can-cer site is having trouble get-ting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at

least one free mammogram a day to an underprivi-leged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on “donating a mammogram” for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn’t cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising. Here’s the web site! Pass it along to people you know.
