Scholarships for High School SeniorsIn spring 2014, eight scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded to eligible high school seniors through the Illinois Electric Cooperative (IEC) Memorial Scholarship Program.

Four scholarships will be awarded to students who are children of an Illinois electric cooperative member receiving service from the cooperative, including Corn Belt Energy members. A fifth scholarship, the Earl W. Struck Memorial Scholarship, is awarded to a student who is the child of an Illinois electric cooperative employee.

The sixth and seventh scholarships are reserved for students enrolling full-time at a two-year Illinois community college who are children of Illinois electric cooperative members, employees or directors.

A new eighth scholarship, the LaVern and Nola McEntire Lineworker's Scholarship, will be awarded to help pay for costs associated with lineworker's school conducted by the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives in conjunction with Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. Military

As Corn Belt Energy celebrates 75 years of cooperative values, we're excited to sponsor Illinois State University's upcoming fall production of Send the Light.

For those who might remember, Send the Light was a play that was written by Corn Belt member and ISU alum Don Shandrow and performed by the local New Route Theatre in 2007, featuring music and lyrics from fellow alum Phil Shaw. Shandrow wrote the play based on his own experiences with cooperatives, employees and members over the years. The original play focused on four characters and how the rural electrification movement affected their lives.

That original play has been expanded to incorporate the resources available through ISU’s School of Theatre and Dance, now including a cast of 30. Co-directed by Connie de Veer and Michael Vetere, they'll tell the story of how people and communities struggled with changes that came with the rural electrification movement in the 1930s. Performances are scheduled for these dates at ISU’s Westhoff Theatre:

• October 17-19: 7:30 PM• October 19 matinee: 2:00 PM • October 22 - 26: 7:30 PM

Additionally, Corn Belt is working with local schools to bring students to morning performances during the school day.
