Use SafetyLights and Devices� Slow moving tractors, self-

propelled equipment, and towedimplements can create a hazardwhen driven on public roads. Theyare difficult to see, especially atnight.

� Flashing warning lights and turnsignals are recommendedwhenever driving on public roads.Use lights and devices providedwith implement.

Keep RidersOff Machinery� Riders obstruct the operator’s

view, they could be struck byforeign objects or thrown from themachine.

� Never allow children to operateequipment.

TransportMachinery Safely� Comply with state and local laws.� Maximum transport speed for

implement is 20 mph. DO NOTEXCEED. Never travel at a speedwhich does not allow adequatecontrol of steering and stopping.Some rough terrain require aslower speed.

� Sudden braking can cause atowed load to swerve and upset.Reduce speed if towed load is notequipped with brakes.

� Use the following maximumspeed - tow load weight ratios asa guideline:

20 mph when weight is lessthan or equal to the weight oftractor.10 mph when weight is doublethe weight of tractor.

IMPORTANT: Do not tow a load thatis more than double the weight oftractor.

Practice Safe Maintenance� Understand procedure before

doing work. Use proper tools andequipment, refer to Operator’sManual for additional information.

� Work in a clean dry area.� Lower the implement to the

ground, put tractor in park, turn offengine, and remove key beforeperforming maintenance.

� Allow implement to coolcompletely.

� Do not grease or oil implementwhile it is in operation.

� Inspect all parts. Make sure partsare in good condition & installedproperly.

� Remove buildup of grease, oil ordebris.

� Remove all tools and unusedparts from implement beforeoperation.

� Operating equipment safelyrequires the full attention of theoperator. Avoid wearing radioheadphones while operatingmachinery.

Avoid HighPressure Fluids Hazard� Escaping fluid under pressure can

penetrate the skin causing seriousinjury.

� Avoid the hazard by relievingpressure before disconnectinghydraulic lines.

� Use a piece of paper orcardboard, NOT BODY PARTS, tocheck for suspected leaks.

� Wear protective gloves and safetyglasses or goggles when workingwith hydraulic systems.

� If an accident occurs, see adoctor immediately. Any fluidinjected into the skin must besurgically removed within a fewhours or gangrene may result.

Tire Safety� Tire changing can be dangerous

and should be preformed bytrained personnel using thecorrect tools and equipment.

� When inflating tires, use a clip-onchuck and extension hose longenough to allow you to stand toone side and NOT in front of orover the tire assembly. Use asafety cage if available.

� When removing and installingwheels, use wheel handlingequipment adequate for theweight involved.

1. Keep all safety labels clean and legible.2. Replace all damaged or missing labels. To order new

Introduction

Land Pride welcomes you to the growing family of newproduct owners.

This implement has been designed with care and built byskilled workers using quality materials. Proper assembly,maintenance, and safe operating practices will help youget years of satisfactory use from the machine.

The parts on your SR25 Series Powered Rake havebeen specially designed and should only be replacedwith genuine Land Pride parts. Therefore, should yourPowered Rake require replacement parts go to yourLand Pride Dealer.

Using This Manual• This Operator’s Manual is designed to help familiarize

you with safety, assembly, operation, adjustments,troubleshooting, and maintenance. Read this manualand follow the recommendations to help ensure safeand efficient operation.

• The information contained within this manual wascurrent at the time of printing. Some parts may changeslightly to assure you of the best performance.

Tractor RequirementsThis powered rake is designed with a 3-Point category Ihitch. Horse power rating of tractor should not exceed 50PTO horse power on all PR2572 & PR2596 PoweredRakes.

! CAUTIONDO NOT OVER SPEED PTO OR MACHINE DAMAGE MAYRESULT. THIS POWERED RAKE IS DESIGNED TO BEUSED WITH A TRACTOR USING A 540 RPM REAR PTO.

Gauge Wheel and Frame AssemblyRefer to Figure 1-1:1. Install the rear gauge wheels (#1) to the rear frame

(#6) as shown. Secure with the wire pins (#2).

2. Remove the main pivot castings (#3) and (#4) fromthe rear frame (#6).

3. Install the front frame (#5) to the rear frame (#6)using the pivot castings that were removedpreviously.

IMPORTANT: In order to maintain steering control,ballast may have to be added to the front end of yourtractor. To determine whether or not to add ballast,refer to your tractor operator’s manual.

Tines and Tine Frame Assembly

Refer to Figure 1-3:1. Mount the tines (#1) to the tine frame (#2) as shown.

For proper location and alignment of tines refer toFigure 1-5.

2. Attach the front tine mounts (#3) to the top tine liftarm (#4) and secure with 1” flatwashers (#5) andcotter pins (#6).

3. Mount the front tine mounts (#3) to the front frame(#13) with the 1/2” u-bolts (#7) 1/2” lockwashers (#8)and 1/2” nuts (#9). For proper alignment refer toFigure 1-4.

NOTE: If your powered rake is not equipped with theoptional tine package then skip this assemblyprocedure.

4. Attach two of the rear tine mounts (#10) to the toptine lift arm (#4) and secure with 1” flatwashers (#5)and cotter pins (#6).

5. Attach the other two rear tine mounts (#10) to the tineframe (#2) with 1/2” lockwashers (#8) and 1/2” nuts(#9).

6. Install the tine frame assembly from step #10 to thetop tine lift arm (#4) using the 1/2” bolts (#11), 1/2”lockwashers (#8) and 1/2” nuts (9).

7. Install the bottom tine lift arms (#12) to the tine frame(#2) and secure with the 1” flatwashers (#5) andcotter pins (#6).

Tractor Hookup1. When using tractors with multi-speed PTO, be

certain PTO is set for 540 RPM.

2. Back tractor up to powered rake until 3-Point links arealigned with lower hitch lugs on powered rake.

3. Secure the tractor’s 3-Point lower links to the lowerhitch lugs using 7/8" diameter hitch pins.

4. Secure the tractor’s top link to the powered rakeupper floating hitch using a 3/4" diameter hitch pin.

5. Level the powered rake by raising or lower thetractor’s lower arms as necessary, then adjust thetractor’s top link to place the upper hitch pin 18"vertically above the lower hitch pins as shown inFigure 1-9 to allow the powered rake to float.

Driveline Installation1. Slide the driveline over the splined shaft at the front

of the powered rake and secure with the lockingdevice of driveline.

2. Slide the driveline over the tractor’s splined PTOshaft and secure with the locking device of driveline.

3. Hook the safety chain on the driveline powered rakeend around a tube on the front of the powered rake toprevent the shield from rotating.

4. The driveline should now be moved back and forth toinsure that it is secure on the PTO shaft of the tractorand powered rake drive shaft.

5. Should the driveline require shortening:

a. Hold the half-shafts next to each other in theshortest working position and mark them.

b. Shorten inner and outer guard tubes equally.

c. Shorten inner and outer sliding profiles by thesame length as the guard tubes.

d. Proper overlap is a minimum of one-half thelength of each tube, with both tubes being ofequal length.

e. Round off all sharp edges and remove burrs.Grease sliding profiles.

IMPORTANT: The inner shield half hooks to thepowered rake.


Prior to initial operation and after long periods ofinactivity, the Friction Clutch should be “run-in”. Refer to

1. Tighten all 4 nuts uniformly until the spring load is lowenough that the clutch slips freely with the PTOengaged.

2. Turn nuts fully back. Clutch is ready for use.

! DANGERHydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate skin. Wearprotective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when workingwith hydraulic systems. Use a piece of cardboard or woodrather than hands when searching for hydraulic leaks. Ifhydraulic fluid is injected into the skin, it must be treated by adoctor within a few hours or gangrene may result.

Transporting

3. When raising the powered rake to the transportposition, be sure that powershaft does not contacttractor or powered rake.

4. Be sure to reduce tractor ground speed whenturning; and, leave enough clearance so thepowered rake does not contact obstacles such asbuildings, trees or fences.

5. Select a safe ground travel speed when transportingfrom one area to another. When traveling onroadways, transport in such a way that faster movingvehicles may pass you safely.

6. When traveling over rough or hilly terrain, shift tractorto a lower gear.

! CAUTIONWhen traveling on public roads whether at night or during theday, use accessory light and devices for adequate warning tooperators of other vehicles. Comply with all federal, state andlocal laws.

Operating Checklist1. Check chain tension. Refer to “Drive Chain

Adjustment” on page 14.

2. Check oil level in gearbox and chaincase. Refer to“Lubrication” on page 20 of this manual.

3. Check that all plugs have been replaced properly inthe gearbox and chaincase.

4. Be sure all bolts and nuts are tight.

5. Be certain all guards and shields are in place andsecure.

6. Grease PTO shaft and all other grease fittings. Referto “Lubrication” on page 20.

7. Check air pressure in gauge wheel tires. It should be14 psi.

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS disengage PTO beforeraising the powered rake to transport position.

Operating Instructions1. Operate with 540 rpm PTO tractor.

2. DO NOT engage PTO at full throttle.

3. Raking should not be done in wet conditions as soilwill stick between the bars on the roller and reducethe digging ability of the powered rake.

4. DO NOT make sharp turns or attempt to back upwhile powered rake is in the ground.

5. DO NOT engage PTO with machine in the fully raisedposition.

6. DO NOT drop the 3 point hitch. Lower the rock rakeslowly to the ground.

7. After raking the first 50 feet, stop and check to seethat the powered rake is adjusted properly.

8. The powered rake must be level front to rear andside to side for proper performance. See “SettingDepth & Leveling” on page 13 to level the poweredrake.

9. Operating depth will depend on conditions butnormally will be just skimming the surface to 1" deep.See “Setting Depth & Leveling” on page 13 to setthe operating depth. Operating too shallow will allowrocks and trash to pass under the roller whileoperating too deep will cause dirt to flow over thematerial control blade or too much dirt will be carriedout the end into the windrow.

10. Ground speed should be between 3 and 5 mph fornormal conditions. Under extremely rocky conditionsor when moving a large windrow ground speed mayhave to be reduced for satisfactory performance. Ingeneral the slower the ground speed the better jobthe powered rake does of separating the dirt from therocks. If the ground speed is too fast then dirt willpass over the top of the material control blade or toomuch dirt will be carried out the end into the windrow.

11. Proper operating depth and ground speed areinterrelated and performance of the powered rakewill improve with operator experience.

12. Normal operating angle of the roller is all the way (20degrees) left or right but may be varied depending onwhat the conditions call for.

13. Periodically check for foreign objects wrappedaround the roller or stuck in between the bars on theroller and remove them after disengaging PTO,turning off tractor, and removing ignition key

14. The danish tine package option loosens rocks andtrash below the surface of the ground. Normaloperating depth is 1" to 4" deep when needed.


Section 3: Adjustments



Setting Depth and Leveling

Leveling Left-To-RightThe powered rake must be level left to right for bestperformance. Left to right leveling should be performedon a flat surface such as a concrete slab.

1. Adjust the angle of the roller so it is at 0˚ or straight.

2. Check that the air pressure is 14 psi in both gaugewheel tires.

3. Move the gauge wheels all the way down. See“Setting Depth” page 13.

4. Block up under the front of the powered rake frameuntil the powered rake is level front to rear.

5. Measure from the bottom of the left hand end of theroller to the ground and from the right hand end of theroller to the ground. If these measurements are notequal then go on to step 6. If they are equal then thepowered rake is level left to right.

6. Loosen the mounting bolts bolting the right handroller leg to the frame and shim between the groundand the bottom of the right hand end of the roller untilthe right hand end is the same distance from theground as the left hand end.

7. Retighten the mounting bolts and the powered rakeis now level left to right.

8. Check the tractors lower 3-point lift arms to see ifthey are the same distance above the ground andadjust if necessary. Note: If these arms are not levelthen the powered rake will not operate level.

Leveling Front-To-RearThe operating depth must be set before leveling thepowered rake front to rear. See “Setting The Depth”above. Leveling the powered rake front to rear is done inthe field by setting the down stop for the tractors lower 3point arms at the point where the powered rake is levelfront to rear. It is very important for the powered rake tobe level front to rear to eliminate gouging of the rollerwhen the powered rake is angled. If the powered rake istoo low in the front then the front portion of the roller willcut deeper than the rear portion when angled. If the

powered rake is too high in the front then the rear portionof the roller will cut deeper than the front portion of theroller when angled.

Setting The DepthThe powered rake must be level left to right before settingthe depth. The operating depth is controlled by the gaugewheels and not the lower tractor 3 point lift arms. Move thegauge wheels up for greater depth or move them down forless depth.

1. Remove the bail pin, from the top of the gauge wheelcastor pivot.

2. Remove the gauge wheel assemblies and swap thespacers, as necessary. Make sure both gaugewheels are set to the same depth.

3. Reinstall the gauge wheel assemblies into theirmounts.

4. Reinstall the bail pin removed in step 1.

5. Re-level the powered rake front to rear. See“Leveling Front To Rear” below.

Drive Chain Adjustment

! CAUTIONBEFORE any maintenance is performed, lower the powerrake to the ground, stop tractor engine and remove the key. DONOT attempt to make maintenance adjustments while tractoris running.

Refer to Figure 3-1:1. By removing the rubber plug (#1) and sticking your

finger into hole, you can check chain tension.(Movement should not exceed 5/8" of deflection).

2. If further investigation of chain is warranted, removechain idler access plate (#2) and gasket to check thechain visually.

3. Adjustment of drive chain can be accomplished byloosening nut (#3) and screwing in stud (#4) totighten chain or out to loosen chain. Retighten nut(#3) after adjustment is complete.

IMPORTANT: Care should be taken in removinggasket.

4. Visually check the amount of adjustment left in theidler. If the adjustment is almost gone then it is timeto replace the drive chain and or the sprockets. See“Drive Chain Replacement” and “SprocketReplacement” below.

Material Control Blade AdjustmentRefer to Figure 3-2:The material control blade can be adjusted three ways:

1. The gap between the bottom of the material controlblade and the top of the roller can be adjusted by theadjuster bolt (#1). In general a wider gap will allowlarger rocks to pass through and will allow the dirt topass through faster for higher ground speeds. Makesure the gap is the same on both ends of the blade.Normal gap width is around 3/4”.

2. The pitch of the material control blade can beadjusted by loosening the bolt (#2) and bolt (#3) andpivoting the material control blade around the bolt(#3). Normally a line from the top edge of thematerial control blade to the bottom edge of thematerial control blade should intersect the center ofthe roller.

3. The material control blade can be adjusted front torear by loosening the bolt (#4) and moving thematerial control blade front to rear in the slot (#5).Normally the dimension “A” should be close to 1 3/4”.

Section 5: Maintenance & Lubrication



MaintenanceProper servicing and adjustment is the key to the long lifeof any implement. With careful and systematicinspection, you can avoid costly maintenance, time andrepair.

After using your Rotary Cutter for several hours, checkall bolts to be sure they are tight.

Replace any worn, damaged or illegible safety labels byobtaining new labels from your Land Pride Dealer.

! CAUTIONBEFORE any maintenance is preformed, lower the power raketo the ground, stop tractor engine and remove key. DO NOTattempt to make maintenance adjustments while tractor isrunning.

StorageAt the end of the working season or when the poweredrake will not be used for a long period, it is good practiceto clean off any dirt or grease that may have accumulatedon any of the moving parts.

Check the roller cutting bars for wear and replace theroller if necessary.

Inspect the powered rake for loose, damaged or wornparts and adjust or replace if needed.

Lubricate as noted in “Lubrication” above.

Repaint parts where paint is worn or scratched to preventrust.

Drain gearbox and chaincase oil. Drain oil in gearbox byremoving the bottom drain plug on. Drain oil in chaincaseby removing cover (#1) Figure 1-10. Be sure to refillgearbox and chaincase at this time.

Take the pressure off the hydraulics cylinders and hosesif the powered rake is equipped with the optionalhydraulic angling or tine lift.

Apply a light coat of grease to all exposed hydrauliccylinder rods.

Store powered rake in a clean, dry place.

Drive Chain MaintenanceThe operator should check periodically to make sure thatthe drive chain is tight. If adjustment is needed refer to“Drive Chain Adjustment” on page 14.

Sprocket and Chain ReplacementRefer to Figure 1-10:1. Remove cover plate (#1) and gasket (#2). Care

should be taken in removing gasket.

2. Loosen chain tension. Refer to “Drive ChainAdjustment” page 14.

3. Remove nuts (#3), one on top and one on bottom.

4. Remove both sprockets (#4) and (#5) and chain (#6)altogether.

5. Install new chain and sprockets.

6. Reinstall nuts (#3).

7. Retighten chain tension. Refer to “Drive ChainAdjustment” on page 14.

8. Turn the roller several turns and observe the chain tomake sure everything is working properly.

9. Reinstall cover plate (#1) and gasket (#2).

10. Check the oil level in the chain case. See“Lubrication” on page 21.

Friction Clutch PTORefer to Figure 5-4:Powered Rake drive components are protected fromshock loads by a two plate friction clutch locatedbetween the gearbox and the drive shaft.

The clutch should slip during operation to protect thepowered rake from excessive loads.

Prior to initial operation and after long periods ofinactivity, the Friction Clutch should be “run-in”.

1. Tighten all 4 nuts uniformly until the spring load is lowenough that the clutch slips freely with the PTOengaged.

2. Engage the PTO until the clutch rotates onerevolution.

3. Turn nuts fully back. Clutch is ready for use.

be free from defects in material and workmanship beginning on the date ofpurchase by the end user according to the following schedule when used asintended and under normal service and conditions for personal use.

This Warranty is limited to the replacement of any defective part by LandPride and the installation by the dealer of any such replacement part, and doesnot cover common wear items. Land Pride reserves the right to inspect anyequipment or parts which are claimed to have been defective in material orworkmanship.

This Warranty does not apply to any part or product which in Land Pride’sjudgment shall have been misused or damaged by accident or lack of normalmaintenance or care, or which has been repaired or altered in a way whichadversely affects its performance or reliability, or which has been used for apurpose for which the product is not designed.
