“How To Worship God” Psalm 24:3-6

This Psalm of David poses and answers a very profound question that is as relevant today as it was when David first wrote it. “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?” Of course, “the hill of the Lord” is a reference to the temple or the place of worship in Jerusalem where God’s people were instructed to practice their worship. The phrase, “who may ascend…?” is a reference to the characteristics or qualification of those who

wish to worship.

So who is it...that is, what must characterize the person who would really desire to come to a church building and worship God? In our current church culture, it seems that more people than less show up with many different things on their minds (and lips) than the genuine worship of God. This has developed into a routine that includes faithful attendance, maybe singing (or not), maybe praying (or not), maybe giving (or not) maybe

coming late and leaving early for personal convenience.

The following is a skeletal outline of Psalm 24:3-6 that gives us some keen insight into what we bring to worship and what

we can expect from worship.

I. What to BRING TO WORSHIP (v. 4)

A. A right relationship to MAN (v. 4a)

B. A right relationship to GOD (v. 4b)

C. A right relationship to YOURSELF (v. 4c)

1. Integrity

2. Transparent

II. What to EXPECT FROM WORSHIP (v. 5)

A. BLESSING from the Lord (v. 5a)

B. RIGHTEOUSNESS from the Lord (v. 5b)

C. SALVATION from the Lord (v. 5c)

May we become worthy worshippers of a most worthy Lord.

It Might Preach! Word of Encouragement “Good News and Bad News”

Did you hear about the old gentleman who went to the doctor with a really bad leg? After thoroughly examining the man, the doctor concluded that they would have to amputate the bad leg, which they did. The day following the surgery, the doctor re-ported to the man that he had some good news and some bad news. The man said, “Doc, give me the bad news first!” to which the doctor replied, “The bad news is, we accidentally amputated the good leg. The man, startlingly replies, well, what’s the good news? The doctor answered, “Best we can tell,

the bad leg is getting better!”

Regarding the Covenant Hope Church property near McLoud, the good news is that the original $72,200.00 loan established in November, 2009 has been PAID IN FULL and PLBA holds a clear title/deed to the property. The sad news is that we will be taking action at our August 13 Executive Board Meeting to place the property on the market for sale. Please pray for God’s on-going wisdom for our Trustees and Partnership Missions

Committee as this process is undertaken.

The closing of Covenant Hope Fellowship on June 30, 2018, as with the closing of Son Rise Southern in January of 2015 (both of which utilized this property), have been heart breaks for us all. However, we will be forever grateful for the souls saved and lives changed during the years between 1998-2018 through that location. We covet the prayers of all our churches and pastors as decisions are made regarding the sale of the “McLoud Property.” We anticipate a progress report at our Sep-

tember 10, 10:30 a.m., Executive Board Meeting.

Encouragingly yours, Russell R. Cook

PLBA WOMEN

A NUGGET FROM MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY... Lately I have become increasingly concerned over the lack of kindness, gentle-ness, politeness and consideration for others in our nation. We do not have to agree with everyone to be polite and kind to them. But, any more, it seems like people just can’t wait to rush to judgment and express an opinion, whether they have “done their homework” or not. Sadly, I even see it repeatedly on recipe sites on social media. It is one thing to say “I have a preference for this ingredient or method over that one.” But, to absolutely rip into people with derogatory re-marks over a recipe or to ridicule them because they happen to like it is childish and simply uncalled for! In watching this amazing social phenomena, I have come to several observa-tions or conclusions: 1. There is a strange disconnect between yelling about the advantages of diver-

sity and, in the next breath, insisting on conformity. Confusing, at best. Fool-ishness for sure.

2. There is an alarming amount of misinformation or lack of information fueling so much of the furor, which in many cases is downright hateful. Wisdom with-out knowledge is not to be had.

3. There is an insistence afoot to delete history if you happen to disagree with it. Destroying documentation of history simply obscures it, where lessons cannot be learned from it. It also empowers those whose agenda is to control, be-cause they have kept the citizenry ignorant of what happens when a few gain control of the masses. That has been the deliberate beauty of our own gov-ernment, ”...of the people, by the people, for the people.” Once government becomes a self-perpetuating entity, the people and their possessions and rights are swallowed up in it.

I could continue, but I think you get the idea. Why do I choose to write about it here and now? Because, ladies—and gentlemen readers, too—our homes and our churches are where proper teaching should take place. As Christian families, we have the duty to safeguard the teachings of how to attain wisdom and exer-cise responsibility and share love properly. If we don’t...who can and who will??? A careful study of the “Book of Proverbs” is a good place to start learning about the foolish and the wise. Choose the ways of the wise for your family! Our na-tion’s survival may well depend on you...and you...and you!
