2020 is a year sure to linger long in the memory. It was with great regret that an idyllic picture-book winter had to be prematurely brought to an end due to the coronavirus crisis. But naturally the priority was the health of all guests and staff. We are incredibly grateful to the Austrian authorities for their swift reaction - only in this way was it possible to keep the virus in check. Several of our colleagues were “stranded” in the Post when the village was placed in quarantine and we made the best possible use of the newly-acquired time together to learn from and grow with one another - as a team, as people and as individuals.

Silent night, ...holy nightWe have taken it upon ourselves to celebrate the Advent and Christmas season for what it actually is: a time when we remember life’s essence and what really matters. Love and gratitude. And precious time spent with our nearest and dearest. The Lech Advent windows transform the village into a living Advent calendar. Over the 24 days of Advent a decorated window opens daily. Wonderful Christmas concerts and recitals, romantic Christmas markets and horse-drawn sleigh rides through crackling snow imbue the Advent season in Lech with an indescribable magic. At the Post we like to celebrate Christmas in the traditional manner. With heart-warming Christmas stories that light up the eyes of all who listen to them. Over hot punch and home-made biscuits in the Hubertushalle. In keeping with longstanding tradition, the Christmas tree is brought straight from the forest and decorated by the family. Our kitchen team pampers you with classic menus and delicacies.

Advent & Christmas at the Post

Since time immemorial Christmas has been the festival of love, family and time spent with others. Amid the hurly-burly of modern life, however, this unfortunately often seems to have been forgotten.At the Post we continue to cherish this time of the year and look forward to sharing these precious moments with you.

There was a commotion in the class.“We got a dog”, shouted Marko above the noise.It was the first day of school after the Christmas holidays. And the children were excitedly telling one another about their presents and experiences. So they didn’t notice Frau Wichmann, their class teacher. Things only began to settle down a little as she approached her desk.“Good morning”, she greeted the children.“Good morning”, the children replied.“I think we’ll talk a little about Christmas before we start the lesson”, suggested Frau Wichmann. “Put your chairs in a circle.”Now the noise level rose again until all the children had put their chairs in position and sat down. Each child then took it in turn to speak and then listened to the others.“I got a toboggan. We went tobogganing on Christmas Day”, said Sandra.“I got a pro skateboard. I want to be a skateboarder and I was allowed to skate in the basement because of all the snow outside”, said Timo.“We got a dog, a baby dog. He got so worked up that he left a puddle under the Christmas tree”, said Marko. The children laughed.“I got something much better. I got my own computer with Internet”, bragged Christoph.The others were amazed.

A Christmas story

“Your own computer?”, asked Sandra.“Yes, it’s in my room and I played with it from morning until the evening.“ Christoph luxuriated in the envy of his classmates.“Didn’t you toboggan at all?”, asked Sandra.“Or have a snowball fight”, asked Marko.“That’s for babies.” replied Christoph dismissively.“How was Christmas at your house, Martin?”, asked Frau Wichmann.Until that point Martin had simply sat still listening. “Mum is back home again. She has to take it easy but she doesn’t need to be in hospital any more. And I don’t have to go to the neighbour’s house in the afternoon.” Martin was beaming all over his face. The children fell silent.“Didn’t you get any presents?”, asked Timo eventually. He looked at Martin provocatively.“Yes, I got a book and Lego.”“Is that all?”, asked Christoph amazed.Martin lowered his head and fell silent. Frau Wichmann approached Martin and put her arm around him.“Health is a far bigger present and it can't be bought”, she said gently.

After a 26-year hiatus the FIS World Cup is returning to the cradle of alpine skiing this year. From 13 to 15 November the cream of the skiing world will be competing for the title of World Champion on the Arlberg. It’s a truly unmissable event.

14 - 16.01.2021 The White Ring ski circuit

For over 60 years, the White Ring has stood for the successful combination of nature and technology, linking Lech with Zürs, Zug and Oberlech. 22 kilometres of track and 5,500 metres of altitude difference - here speed is what counts. The 100 fastest get the first 100 starting places for the main race, which sees amateurs and pros compete on a demanding route with five downhill runs. Excitement and thrills are guaranteed!

Plot

A valuable picture has been stolen from the Hotel Gasthof Post in Lech. But who is the culprit? And what are the motives of the unknown perpetrator?The local philosopher Katrin Neuer, who happens to be present, and her friend, the town sociologist Oliver Vonlanthen, team up with the police to get to the bottom of the case as amateur detectives. In doing so they find out a great deal about the history and inner life of the Post and also the region around Lech and its people.After several trails have turned out to be dead-ends, they finally succeed in apprehending the perpetrator and bringing him to justice.

About the author

Born in 1951, Dr. Andreas Giger lives and works as an independent freelance future philosopher, author and photographer in the Appenzellerland region of Switzerland.

Since 2011 Giger has penned around 24 branded crime thrillers for companies and municipalities and we are absolutely delighted that he has also teamed up with us to tell exciting stories from the Post.
