Summary
This year, World Space Week 2013 activities were conducted in 10 major cities of Pakistan which included: Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Gilgit, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Abbottabad. SUPARCO also provided support, in terms of providing educational material, banners, posters and guidance, to different schools & colleges in small cities like Pishin, Larkana and Ghotki for celebrating WSW 2013. Around 145 activities were conducted throughout Pakistan for the celebration of WSW 2013. Different educational institutes and space entities collaborated with SUPARCO for organizing World Space Week 2013, which include:

Post Event Report - Karachi
1. Introduction
World Space Week 2013 was celebrated from 4-10 October 2013 in Karachi. SUPARCO organized a
number of activities for teachers, students and the general public to promote awareness about the
benefits of space technology and its applications. Different activities included: space simulations in the
PIA Planetarium, quiz and declamation contests and poster, model making competitions and space
fair.
2. Event Summary
a) Inauguration Ceremony:
Inaugural Ceremony was held in NCRG auditorium on 4th October, 2013.The chief guest for the event
was Prof. Dr.Atta-Ur-Rahman former chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and currently
working as Patron-in-chief for International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences. The Chief
Guest delivered a very informative lecture on application of space technology, Nano technology and
other vast fields of space sciences. Chief Guest and Chairman SUPARCO visited gallery of National
Poster Competition and voted for the best poster. Chief Guest and Chairman SUPARCO also
interacted with media and later on Dr Atta Ur Rehman inaugurated Space Education Bus.
b) Space fair:
Space fair was organized from 5-6 October 2013 at PAF Museum. Almost 6000 to 8000 people
attended the event. The following activities were conducted during the two day space fair:

c) Book Fair:
The purpose of the arrangement of book fair in World Space Week was to promote literacy in the
country and to provide information of the latest books available in the market. Book fair was organized
during space fair at PAF Museum. All reputed national publishers/Vendors participated and books on
variety of subjects were displayed in the event. Students from different universities, schools as well as
public were delighted to see such a good collection of fiction and other books of their interests.
d) Space Movies Theatre:
SUPARCO documentaries and informative movies were displayed during space fair to provide
awareness about space, galaxies, astronauts and International Space Station etc to the young students
and public at large. The following movies were shown:
(1) SUPARCO Documentary “Urdu and English”
(2) NASA Space Camp alumni (Visits of NASA Space Station (presentation and sharing their
experience)
(3) “Congregation to the try Zero G 2012” Winners from Pakistan
(4) NASA 50 years
e) Philately Stall:
Philately stall was setup during WSW-2013 at PAF Museum, Karachi. The stall was setup in
coordination with Mr Arif Balgamwala, the stamp collector. Mr Arif Balgamwala brought a good
collection of space related stamp and displayed it well to the public. Stamp tickets issued by Pakistan
Post Office on 16 Sep 2011 on the launch of Paksat-1R satellite were also sold.
f) University Project Competition:
This year around 56 students from four universities showcased the projects in disciplines like robotics,
electrical, electronics, robotics/ mechatronics engineering. The following universities participated in the
event:
(1) NED University of Engineering & Technology
(2) Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology
(3) Hamdard University
(4) Usman Institute of Engineering & Technology
The projects were evaluated on the basis of following criteria:
Innovation/ Original Idea.
Hardware of Projects.
Software of Projects.
Manufacturing.
Future enhancement.
Utility of Projects.
Top three projects in the competition were selected by the SUPARCO nominated jury. The best three
projects were awarded with cash prizes and the shield.
a) Model Making Competition:
As a part of WSW 2013 activities, Model Making Competition was organized by SUPARCO for creating
awareness amongst school students regarding space applications and role of SUPARCO in space
sciences and technologies. All the schools were given a theme in advance to prepare their models for
the competition which was “Exploring MARS and Discovering Earth”.
b) Water rocket demonstration in Space Fair:
Water rocket demonstration in Space Fair was held on 5th and 6th October 2013 at PAF Museum,
Karachi. Advanced water rocket demonstration was also carried out that contained camera module and
electronic mechanism for successful parachute deployment at peak altitude.
Various advancements in water rockets were demonstrated and their launchers including dual Thai
style launchers, pneumatic launchers triggered by push button replacing the clutch/lever mechanism
which is used conventionally all around the world and automatic mobile launcher controlled wirelessly
through hand gestures.
c) Sky Simulation Show:
SUPARCO in collaboration with PIA Planetarium Karachi organized Sky Simulation Show on 4th, 5th
and 7th October as one of the activity in commencement of World Space Week Celebration. Various
schools from government and private sector were invited to participate in the event.
d) Quiz Competition:
The Quiz Competition was held on 7th Oct, 2013 at the NCRG Auditorium, SUPARCO HQs. 24 teams
comprising of two students from each school participated in the contest. The Students were infused
with fervor and zeal to participate in the competition. Galileoscopes & certificates were distributed
among the position holders and participating schools.
e) Declamation Contest:
The declamation contest was organized on 8th Oct 2013 at NCRG Auditorium. 34 Students from 21
schools participated in the contest among which 19 participated in English session and 15 participated
in Urdu session. The theme of the declamation contest was “Exploring Mars - Discovering Earth”. The
event was covered by media persons.
f) Second National Conference On Space Science (NCSS-2013)
The Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics, University of Karachi, Pakistan organized “2nd
National Conference on Space Science” on 7th & 8th October, 2013 at HEJ Auditorium, University of
Karachi. The conference was organized in collaboration with SUPARCO, Higher Education
Commission, Pakistan Science Foundation, HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry and Pakistan
Physical Society, Sindh Chapter. Professor, Prof. Dr. Att-ur-Rehman was the Chief Guest in the
Inaugural Ceremony and Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was the Chief Guest in the Closing Ceremony.
g) Water rocket competition:
Water rocket competition was held on 9th October 2013 at SUPARCO HQs, Karachi. The water rocket
competition was held according to the latest rules defined by Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency
Forum (APRSAF). The participating students designed water rockets which meet specific construction
and launch criteria and could either hit the target or land at a minimum ground distance from it.
Between the two launches, the best was considered as the final launch. While coordinating for the
water rocket competition, organizing team approached special children schools to promote these
students and provide space education to them.

Post Event Report - Lahore
1. Introduction
Satellite Research and Development Center - Lahore (SRDC-L) of SUPARCO organized different
activities during 4-10 Oct 2013 in Lahore to celebrate World Space Week 2013.
2. Event Summary
a) Seminar:
A seminar was organized at SRDC-L as part of World Space Week 2013 celebrations on 04-October-
2013 at SRDC-Lahore. The main objective of the event was to update the audience about the
developments going on in the field of space science and technology specifically in the context of
Pakistan.
b) Fancy Dress Show:
Fancy dress show was conducted to promote ideas about space suits/dresses amongst the school
students in their early age. Students of kindergarten to Class II participated in the Fancy Dress Show,
which was held on the first day of the Space Fair i.e. on 05th Oct 2013 at Gulshan-e- Iqbal Park,
Lahore. Students were dressed up as astronauts, aliens, scientists, robots and cartoon characters at
fancy dress show. A large number of spectators watched the whole event and showed their interest.
Gifts were distributed amongst all the participating students.
c) Water Rocket Training, Demo, and Competition
The main objective of Water Rocket competition is to create know-how amongst the school children
about rocket sciences and its governing laws.
In Lahore Water Rocket (WR) Teacher Training Workshop was held at SRDC-L and practical display
was conducted at NFC Park. Number of schools participated in WR Teacher Training Session, WR
Demo, and WR Competition..
d) University Project Competition:
Only teams from Engineering Universities located in Lahore were invited to display their own fabricated
engineering projects to participate in University Project Exhibition/Competition. University project
exhibition was held on 5th-6th October, 2013 at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Lahore. Projects were evaluated
by the judges according to a standard format. All the participants were given certificates, and prizes
were distributed as well among the position holders on the Prize Distribution Day. Prizes were in the
form of cash of Rs. 20000/-, Rs. 15000/-, Rs. 10000/- to 1st, 2nd & 3rd position holders respectively.
e) SUPARCO Display Stall:
SUPARCO display stall was arranged to increase awareness of general public about history of
organization and various projects undertaken by SUPARCO. This activity also highlighted applications
of space technology in different areas. Models of BADR-1 & BADR-B satellites along with REHBAR
and SHEHPAR rockets were placed at the Family Fair for displayed. A number of Posters/Imageries
were also displayed to highlight key applications of space technology in the area of crop and flood
monitoring, weather predictions, landscape, etc.
f) Book Fair:
Book Fair was an event of World Space Week celebrations. Various local Book Vendors/Publishers
were contacted, and invited formally. On 5th Oct and 6th Oct, they displayed their books, which drew the
attention of a large number of readers/visitors.
g) Model Making Competition:
Model Making Competition was arranged by SUPARCO at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Lahore during World
Space Week 2013 Family Fair on 5th October 2013. The school students from 5th to 8th grade were
invited to participate in the competition. The theme of the event was “Exploring Mars, Discovering
Earth”. Each participant was allocated a separate space for display. Nominated judges evaluated all
the models.
h) Quiz Competition:
Total 30 teams from different schools participated in the event. They were divided into different pools
and after competing with each other in multiple rounds, the winner was decided. An excel software was
developed to record score on run time. After Round completion score board PC was displayed via KVM
switch.
i) Sky Simulation:
The main aim of organizing this event was to give school children an overview of our universe, galaxy,
stars, our solar system, and our earth. Moreover, to introduce the students and teachers about the
phenomena happening every time in the sky and how they affects our world, a sky simulation movie
was shown to all the participants from almost 15 local schools. After the show refreshment was served.
Then, all the participants were taken to the airplane for briefing about air travel.
j) Astronomy Night:
Astronomy Night was scheduled to be held on Wednesday 8th Oct, 2013 in the evening from 1800 hrs
to 2100 hrs at FC College Lahore. The purpose of this event was sighting of celestial objects using high
magnification telescopes as provided by the societies mentioned as below:
i. Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS).
ii. Lahore Astronomical Society (LAS).
International Space Station (ISS) was also shown to the teachers with naked eye passing over the
heads at 1836 hrs. It remained visible for 6 minutes.
k) Mobile Lecture Team:
Delivering lectures at various local schools is a salient feature of World Space Week activities. A
mobile team was formed for this purpose, and the team delivered lectures to the secondary level
students at their schools about developments in space science and technology. Presentation in the
form of videos and verbal communication was conducted during the event. Q/A session were held at
the end and the gifts were distributed to those students who put question.
l) Declamation Contest-University:
Students from various local universities participated in the declamation contest. The whole event was
divided in two sections i.e. English and Urdu. Two students from each university were invited to share
their views, one for both sections. The students presented their views on both serious and humorous
topics. The topics selected for this year were:

Urdu Topics:
m) Declamation Contest-Schools:
The event was held on 9th October 2013 at SRDC-L, a large number of students from different schools
participated in the event.
The English topic for Declamation Competition was “Next Generation is a Space Generation”, which
was selected to acquaint the students with the basic knowhow about space and motivating them to
think about future space explorations. The Urdu topic selected for Declamation Competition was
“Khalaon ka safar naee ufaq kholey ga”, which aimed at acquainting students with the basic knowhow
about space and space exploration.
n) Prize Distribution Ceremony: Prize Distribution Ceremony was the last event which was held to give a ceremonial end to the World
Space Week activities. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rehman, VC GCU graced the occasion as Chief
Guest of the event. Certificates and prizes were distributed among the top three holders. The Chief
Guest encouraged the students to develop their interest in the field of space sciences and technology.

Post Event Report - Islamabad
1. Introduction
Institute of Space Technology (IST) celebrated World Space Week at its Islamabad campus from 4th to
10th October with an aim to generate space technology awareness among the general public and
especially the students of schools, colleges and universities of the twin cities and surrounding areas.
IST is the pioneer institute in Pakistan, celebrating WSW since 2006 and has always played a leading
role in implementing the UN's charter by celebrating the World Space Week with vigor and enthusiasm.
This year also, IST organized various activities for the school and the college students to create
awareness about the usefulness of Space Technology.
2. Event Summary
Student Affairs Department gave the welcome address featuring a detailed briefing about the
importance and objectives of WSW celebrations and competitions and activities included in the World
Space Week. Dr. Sarwar Naqvi graced the occasion as Chief Guest who has worked at the National
Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center in Houston for over 32 years and
has made major contributions to the NASA astronaut training program in Houston, Texas USA. He
talked about the importance of Space Technology and enlightened the audience with his scholarly
views about Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth-the theme for this year's World Space Week.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by, number of interesting exhibitions and competitions on
October 4, 2013. The competitions started with Space Technology Bilingual Declamation Contest and
Bilingual Essay Writing Competition with an aim to provide a platform to the young students to express
their views and ideas for the peaceful uses of outer space. Alongside Space Models Display
Competition and Space Painting & Sketching Competitions were also held in which students exhibited
different ways of exploring space.
Activities on October 5, 2013 were also blended nicely. Space Technology awareness competitions
started with Space Quiz. The Quiz was a test of students' knowledge about the solar system, Galaxy,
planets and other space related areas existing in the universe, e-poster design competition flourished
the computer and literary skills to shape up the imagination into reality. Aero Modeling competition
helped student to know the basics of airplane building mechanism, aerodynamics and designing of
airplanes. Colonizing Space "Space Settlement Design Competition" was introduced for the very first
time in WSW celebrations at IST. The competition aimed at discovering the possibility of life in the
space and exploring different necessities required for the settlement of human community in the space.
The second day ended with a Paper plane competition and story-telling activity to entertain the young
students and create some fun for them.
October 6, 2013 started with Space Talks "University students/faculty panel discussion". The
discussion involved students from different universities and senior faculty members of IST. The session
encompassed discussion about creating awareness of Space Technology and new ideas were
exchanged to d iscover the unexplored f ie ld of Space Technology in Pakistan. Water
Rocket and Glider Competitions attracted student participants to a great extent and contributed in
developing interest of exploring rocket science and understanding airplane flying mechanism.
Honorable judges and veterans of their fields graced the competitions and contributed their valuable
judgments to decide the winners of competitions in different categories. A large number of visitors took
keen interest in Space exhibitions which included Planetarium, Space Models Gallery, INTEL Science
Fair, IST Satellite & UAV labs, MUSHAQ plane, Mobile library, Space Gala and Space Theatre. Kids
Arena and different food stalls were also setup for the entertainment of young participants and visitors.
The knowledge oriented space exhibitions and family fair continued for the first three days of the World
Space week from 4-6 October.
On October 6, 2013 prize distribution ceremony was organized to conclude the competitions of World
Space Week-2013 at Institute of Space Technology. Dr. Zaffar Mohammad DG ORIC was the chief
guest of the ceremony. Addressing the house, he shared the history of World Space Week with the
audience and emphasized on the importance of WSW celebrations in creating awareness of benefits
of using outer space amongst the decision makers and general public all across the world.
To involve the youth of Pakistan in this celebration and to make them aware of the advancement that
Pakistan has made in the field of Space Technology, IST organized activity based programs at "The
City School H-8" and "ACE International Academy" on 7th & 8th October respectively. The students
were briefed about the World Space Week 2013 competitions, space exhibitions and many other
activities organized at IST campus from 4-6 October. The students were also educated and amused
with a Water Rocket making presentation followed by the practical demonstration of Water Rocket
launch and fire.
A video conferencing session was also organized by Institute of Space Technology in collaboration
with Higher Education Commission (HEC) on October 9, 2013. The session involved top panelists of
IST who delivered Space Technology awareness lectures in different sessions. These lectures were
streamed live through video conferencing across all the universities of Pakistan and some of the
developing countries as well. Space Technology Teachers' Training Workshop for about 100 teachers
of different schools/colleges was organized and conducted by IST in collaboration with Federal
Directorate of Education (FDE) at "The Science School" H-9 on October 10, 2013. The faculty of IST
stressed on the need of creating awareness of Space Technology among the masses and emphasized
on the role of school/college teachers in educating and inspiring young minds to discover the
unexplored universe. The speakers also highlighted the advancements made by Pakistan in the field of
Space Technology. Successful launch of Paksat-1R was shared with the participants of the workshop.
The participants were inspired by the first cube satellite of Pakistan ICUBE -1 by Institute of Space
Technology which will be launched in November 2013. The workshop was organized in different
sessions by the top space technology scholars of IST. More than 700 participants of 80 different
schools and colleges participated in different competitions and about 1000 visitors witnessed space
technology oriented competitions and activities of World Space Week 2013 held at Institute of Space
Technology.
Different organization which collaborated with IST for WSW include SUPARCO, Higher Education
Commission (HEC), Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), Pakistan Science Foundation,
National Book Foundation, Oxford University press, INTEL, COSMIC Space Club, Hobby Lobby
and The Science School.

1. Introduction
World Space Week 2013 on theme “Exploring Mars and Discovering Earth” was organized by
Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in collaboration with
COMSATS Literary Society and CIIT Abbottabad at CIIT Abbottabad from 3-4 October 2013.
2. Event Summary
The event included various activities comprising of Water Rocket Competition, Bilingual Essay Writing
Competition, Painting & Sketching Competition, Bilingual Declamation Contest, and Space-Quiz.
During the opening ceremony, Syed Zohair Bukhari, Deputy Director General SUPARCO threw light on
role of SUPARCO in socio-economic development of Pakistan. The two days events went very well.
Closing ceremony was held on 4th October 2013. Acting Director CIIT Abbottabad and Deputy Director
General SUPARCO Jointly chaired Closing/Prize Distribution Ceremony.

Post Event Report -Faisalabad
1. Introduction
As part of WSW-2013, a three day event was celebrated from 4th of October, 2013 to 6th of October,
2013 in Faisalabad, organized by University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) with the collaboration of
SUPARCO. The activities include: inaugural ceremony, model making competition, poster display, Quiz
Competition, Declamation Contest, Water Rocket Competition, Space Walk and Prize Distribution
Ceremony.
This was the second time that a space related event had been organized in Faisalabad by SUPARCO.
Both Government and private schools were invited to create a blend of students from different
backgrounds.
2. Event Summary
a) Inaugural Ceremony
The WSW-2013 activities started formally with an inaugural ceremony held at UAF on 4th of October,
2013. The chief guest of the occasion was Mr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan the Vice Chancellor of UAF. Mr.
Iftikhar Bhatti (GM) attended the event and represented SUPARCO. A large number of students from
different schools, UAF faculty members, university students, school teachers, media personals
attended the event. After the inaugural ceremony the dignitaries visited the stalls of the schools on
which models and posters were displayed.
b) Water rocket competition and space walk:
A “Space Walk” was organized that lead to sports ground where “Water Rocket Competition” was
planned. A large number of school children participated in this walk.
The teachers and students enthusiastically participated in the event and their interest in SUPARCO,
space technology, and WSW was immense.
c) Model making competition and posters display:
Schools were instructed to display and present their models/posters to general public for two days (4 th
& 5th of October), while the judges visited the stalls on the final day to determine the winners of the
competition.
d) Quiz Competition, Declamation Contest, and Closing Ceremony:
A number of schools enthusiastically participated in Quiz competition, each well prepared. A team of
two students, from class 6th-10th, were allowed to participate from each school. A bilingual declamation
contest was also organized.
Teachers, students with their parents and students of UAF, Faisalabad were allowed to attend the
event according to the seating capacity, which was completely filled and many were standing at the
back.
Dir ORIC Dr. Rao Asif and Chairman Irrigation Department Dr. Allah Bakhsh attended the final
ceremony and distributed the prizes amongst students.

Post Event Report - Bahawalpur
1. Introduction
World Space Week (WSW)-2013 was held in Bahawalpur, in collaboration with Pakistan Space &
Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and Islamia University Bahawalpur.
2. Event Summary
a) Inauguration Ceremony:
The inauguration ceremony was held at 4 Oct 2013. The event was followed by many educational and
colorful events including:-
Display of different satellite models
Informative movies on space and satellite technology
Space Walk
Chief Guest and the Vice Chancellor of IUB Prof Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar graced the occasion.
Many schools and colleges were present. The enthusiasm of the students showed the keen interest
they had for the subject.
b) Water Rocket and Model Making Competition:
Water Rocket and Model Making competitions were the most anticipated events of the world space
week. Many schools participated in the event which included the schools from the Bahawalpur along
with the schools of nearby villages and towns. The chief guest of the occasion was Mr. Malik
Muhammad Iqbal Channar, Provincial Minister Cooperatives.
c) Seminars/Lectures:
The objective of the seminar was to create awareness about applications of space technology in
different fields and to give an introduction of SUPARCO‟s achievements in space applications.
Participants of the seminar were invited from various government and non-government organizations
including universities, research institutes, schools and colleges. These seminars were attended by
more than 100 teachers and students. The questions asked by the students at the end of the session
reflected their interest in SUPARCO and SPACE.
d) Bilingual Declamation Contest
Bilingual Declamation Contest was held on 9th October 2013 among students of different public and
private schools of Bahawalpur at Ghotvi halls of Islamia University Bahawalpur. The chief guest on the
occasion was Prof Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor IUB. The event was actively participated
by no less than 20 schools and colleges. The students presented their arguments on the World Space
Week 2013 theme “Exploring Mars-Discovering Earth” and how space technology can help the earth.
e) Quiz Competition:
Quiz competition was held on 9th October 2013 among students of different public and private schools
of Bahawalpur at Ghotvi halls of Islamia University Bahawalpur. The chief guest on the occasion was
Prof Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor IUB. A number of schools enthusiastically participated,
each well prepared with the quiz material. A team of two students, from class 6th-8th, were allowed to
participate from each school.
f) Prize Distribution Ceremony
Prof Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur was the chief guest of the
ceremony. Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Rao, DDG SRDC-L was also present on the occasion. Certificates
and Prizes comprising of telescopes and space booklets were distributed to the winners by the Chief
Guest, who enthusiastically supported the students and encouraged them to develop their interest in
the field of space sciences and technology.
g) Closing Ceremony:
Closing Ceremony night was the last of the events held during the World Space Week. Prof Dr.
Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur, District Police Officer Bahwalpur
and Commissioner Bahawalpur were present on the closing ceremony. Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Rao,
DDG SRDC-L also graced the occasion. The ceremony began with the display of videos related to
SUPARCO .The Audience showed immense interest in the documentaries and appreciated them with
warm applause. The people of the academia were pleased to know that National Space agency has
achieved this far in the field of Space Sciences. In the end the Vice Chancellor made a speech in
appreciation of SUPARCO and its achievements and cherished the SUPARCO team for organizing
such a big event at Islamia University Bahawalpur.

WORLD SPACE WEEK 2013
Post Event Report Format- Gilgit
1. Introduction
Hasegawa Memorial Public School & College (HMPS&C) in collaboration with the Space Agency of
Pakistan, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), celebrated
World Space Week 2013 (WSW) in Karimabad Hunza, Gilgit Baltistan from Oct 4, 2013 to Oct 8, 2013.
It was an initiative of exposing students to new horizons of thoughts to facilitate a paradigm shift from a
geo-centric thinking to a cosmic approach and to help students to equip themselves with the
knowledge, skills and aptitude required to live a meaningful life with dignity in contemporary era. It was
aimed at creating awareness about the benefits space technology in various areas of Human
engagements.
This event exclusively took place in four different phases in which there were various set of approaches
both intellectual and practical in particular. Appealing to all the participants, guests, visitors and public,
it was pleasurably a successful event which set an epitome of learning for generations to ensue.
2. Event Summary
a) Water Rocket Training and Launching Competition
The first phase was the Water Rocket Training and Launching Competition. 28 schools were provided
training during Mobile Space Competition just before World Space Week Exhibition. Formal
Programme was organized to mark the mega event successfully. Students were provided training on
devising and designing water rockets which were launched at the end of the event as part of the
competition.
b) Speech Competition and Art Competition:
Second phase was the Speech Competition and Art (Drawing) Competition. For speech competition,
participants were given the topic „Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth‟. Students took keen interest in the
competition which was reflected by their ideas during speech. Theme for the Art Competition was
„Reflecting any Dimensions of Space Science‟, which was indeed reflected by the participants through
their drawings.
c) Science Exhibition
Third phase was the Science Exhibition. Students, guests, visitors and public were astonished by the
innovations of participants who exhibited their models which were based on the Space Science in
particular.
d) Space Walk and Grand Celebration
Last and final phase had been designed in two parts i.e. Space Walk and Grand celebration. Space
walk was held by students, teachers, professionals, CSOs‟ representatives, and notables holding
placards and banners from HMPS&C to Zero Point Karimabad, Hunza. Mega festivity was celebrated
in Karimabad polo ground and position holders of Science Exhibition displayed their models, science
and art projects. A cultural show was also conducted to add the beauty to the event.

Post Event Report - Multan
1. Introduction
World Space Week celebrations were held for the first time in the city of Multan. It was a three day
event, dated 4th – 6th October, 2013. A pre-celebration event was held on 24th September, 2013 for
training the school teachers in making water rockets for water rocket competition.
2. Event Summary
a. Water Rocket Teachers Training Workshop Multan:
Water Rocket Teachers‟ Training Workshop in Multan was held on 24th September 2013 at AU,
Multan. Dr. Zia, Assistant Professor, AU Multan was the chief guests of the workshop. A total of six
schools participated in the workshop. It was inaugurated in AU, Multan in which tutorial
presentation was delivered. The making and launching of water rockets took place at Ayub
Stadium, Multan Cantt.
b. Inaugural Ceremony:
The formal inauguration of WSW 2013 celebrations at Multan station was held on 4 th October,
2013 at AU, Multan. Mr. Rahmatullah Jilani, Director Earth Sciences Acting (ES), SUPARCO, was
the Guest of Honor. Prof. Dr. Shabbar Atiq, Director, Institute of Advance Material, Bahauddin
Zakaria University (BZU) was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural ceremony who formally inaugurated
the World Space Week celebrations held on 04-06 Oct 2013. The ceremony was followed by Quiz
Competition and Space Walk.
c. Space Walk:
To create awareness of World Space Week, space walk was held from Air University Multan to
Press Club, Multan. Mr. Rahmatullah Jilani and Dr. Abbas, Assistant Professor, AU, Multan led the
space walk with officials of AU and SUPARCO and students of AU, Multan.
d. Quiz Competition:
Quiz Competition was held in AU, Multan. Students from different schools participated in the
competition. It was a two-day event. Preliminary rounds were held on 4th October 2013. The final
round was held on 5th October 2013. Competition was held through multimedia. Great excitement
and competition was seen among students and teachers of the participating schools.
e. Poster Competition:
Poster Contest was held in AU Multan. Participating students were required to make posters on
WSW 2013 theme of “Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth”. Team of two students represented a
school. They were given time limit of one hour. Students not only showcased great artistic skills but
also displayed great concept in their art piece. Students were judged on the criteria of originality,
visual appeal, layout and concept.
f. E-Poster Competition:
E-Poster Contest was held in Computer Lab of AU Multan. Standard images and softwares were
already installed on each workstation before beginning the competition. Participating students were
required to make posters on WSW 2013 theme of “Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth”. Each
school team comprised of two students. They were given time limit of one hour. Students showed
their great software skills and concept in their art piece. Students were judged on the criteria of
originality, visual appeal, layout and concept.
g. Water Rocket Competition:
Water Rocket competition was held at Ayub Stadium, Multan Cantt. It was held along with Space
Fair. 06 teams from different schools participated in the event. The teams prepared their rockets
from the materials already provided by SUPARCO. A lot of students and space fair audience came
to see the launching of rockets. They showed interest and enthusiasm in the Water Rocket
Competition which helped them understand the concepts of rocket science.
h. Space Fair & Closing Ceremony:
On 6th October 2013, “Space Fair” marked the third day of WSW 2013 celebrations at Ayub
Stadium, Multan Cantt.
The fair included many exciting things such as SUPARCO Stall exhibiting models of different
rockets and satellites, Space Photography Backdrop where an astronaut backdrop not only
attracted young school students but families as well for taking memorable pictures, Food Stalls,
Space Movies Theater, Galileoscope Setup for sky observations demonstrated by Mr. Asif Iqbal,
Manager, STA Dte, SUPARCO, Drama performed on WSW by AU students and Musical Show.
After the Water Rocket Competition closing ceremony was held. The chief guest of the event was
Mr. Rahmatullah Jilani Director (ES), SUPARCO. Prizes were distributed for the winning schools
and students by the Chief Guest.

Post Event Report -Peshawar
1. Introduction
World Space Week was organized by SUPARCO UET Peshawar in collaboration with SUPARCO in
Peshawar from 04-10 Oct 2013.
2. Event Summary
a) Inauguration Ceremony:
Inauguration ceremony was attended by nearly 150 persons Mr. Muhammad Zubair Ashghar Qureshi,
Executive Director, Urban Policy Unit, P&D Dept, Govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the chief guest.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of SUPARCO Shield to Chief Guest and UET Shield to
Chief Guest and DG (Guidance & Control Systems) SUPARCO.
b) Short Seminar on “Geospatial Technologies for Assets Management”:
A short Seminar on “Geospatial Technologies for Assets Management” was organized at Industrial
Hall. The aim of this seminar was to create awareness among students and decision makers about the
importance and role of Geospatial technologies for planning, management, and monitoring of assets.
Prior registration was introduced for the first time and more than 100 registration forms were received.
c) Quiz Competition:
Quiz competition provides opportunity to the students to prove their talents. Quiz Completion was
organized by ASME-UET Peshawar Chapter on 7th October 2013 at UET Industrial Hall.
A total of 31 teams comprising of two competitors each from 10 invited institutes and different
department of UET Peshawar participated in the event. Eight teams were selected for quarter final
through first round. The event was conducted using specialized software for Quiz on multimedia with
already populated database.
d) Sky Simulation:
Sky simulation was included in the WSW activities at Peshawar since 2012. Sky simulation was
organized by SUPARCO at PIA Planetarium Peshawar. A plan for two batches per day each with two
hours program was prepared for the invited schools from 0900-1300 Hrs.
e) Poster Competition:
Poster making completion provides a platform to the competing students to demonstrate their skills,
innovative ideas, and imagination on the poster. Poster making completion was organized on 8 th Oct
2013 at UET Industrial Hall.
30 teams from the 11 invited institutes took part in the competition. Approximately 250 students from
UET and invited institutes have shown interest in the posters that were on display. Engr. Imtiaz
Hussain Gilani, VC UET Peshawar also spare his precious time and took interest and appreciated
student‟s hard work.
f) Model Making Competition:
Model making competition provides an opportunity to the younger students to put on display their ideas
in the form of models. Model making completion was organized on 8th Oct 2013 at UET Industrial Hall.
15 teams from the 07 invited institutes took part in the competition. Engr. Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, VC
UET Peshawar also spare his precious time and took interest and appreciated student‟s hard work.
Event attracted eight TV channels and newspaper for media coverage.
g) Bilingual Declamation Competition
Bilingual declamation contest was organized on 9th Oct 2013 at UET Industrial Hall. 21 students from
10 invited institutes competed in the both categories which were judged by two judges.
h) Water Rocket Competition:
Water rocket competition was the most attractive and fascinating event of WSW, organized on 9th Oct
2013. 29 competitors from 05 invited institutes took part in competition. A criterion for the winner was to
achieve max range in the predefined corridors. Water rocket competition attracted approximately 200
visitors from the participating and host institutions.
i) Closing Ceremony:
WSW 2013 concluding as well as Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at UET Industrial Hall on 10th
Oct 2013 and was attended by 210 participant‟s mostly schools students including winners. Dr. Zahid
Mehmood, Dean Faculty of Engineering was the Chief Guest and distributed prizes among the winners.
Mr. Muhammad Farooq, GM SUPARCO Regional Office Peshawar concluded the ceremony with vote
of thanks to UET and organizing societies.

Post Event Report -Quetta
1. Introduction
SUPARCO and BUITEMS have been jointly organizing and celebrating World Space Week since 2011
at Takatu Campus of the University situated at Baleli Road, Quetta. This year WSW 2013 was
celebrated in Quetta from 09-10, 2013 at Takatu Campus, BUITEMS Quetta. The theme for this year‟s
World Space Week was, “Exploring Mars – Discovering Earth”.
2. Event Summary
SUPARCO and BUITEMS jointly organized and celebrated the World Space Week on October 09-10,
2013 at Takatu Campus, BUITEMS Quetta. The purpose was to create awareness regarding space
science, technology and its applications. Chief Guest of the event was Engr. Ahmed Farooq Bazai, the
Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS. During the inauguration ceremony SUPARCO documentary was shown
to the audience and senior official from SUPARCO Mr. Zafar Iqbal delivered the welcome address.
After the inauguration ceremony, Director SUPARCO& VC BUITEMS visited to Expo Hall where fair &
exhibition was formally inaugurated.
SUPARCO stall was the main attraction in exhibition. The stall was divided into five separate technical
sections of Geo-Spatial applications including Agriculture, Disaster, Infrastructure, Models of satellites
and rockets and Fly Through video sections. The visitors including Faculty, students, public and media
people showed extraordinary interest and were greatly impressed by the damage assessment maps
and Fly Through videos of recent earthquake of District Awaran. It was a great show portraying the
Geo-Spatial technology applications at a crucial time. The stall displayed various posters of Geo-
Spatial applications, Technologies, Space Milestones and other interesting awareness material.
Intel Corp also coordinated with BUITEMS and participated in model competition and model stalls for
schools of the local area. The chief guest accompanied by Mr. Zafar Iqbal SUPARCO and Mr.
Muhammad Khalid Khan, Director Regional Centre Quetta, inaugurated the event in which students
from different schools of Quetta city participated. Various activities including Water Rocket Competition,
Declamation Contest, Quiz Competition and Poster Making Competition were held.
At the end of the event Mr. Zafar Iqbal and Mr. Muhammad Khalid Khan distributed prizes amongst the
winners.

Post Event Report -Larkana
1. Introduction
Zubaida Fazal Decent College Larkana (ZFDCL) celebrated World Space Week 2013 in Larkana.
Different activities were organized for students on 9th and 10th Oct which include: Declamation
Contest, Quiz Competition, Poster Competition, Model Making and Space Theatre.
2. Event Summary
a) Inauguration Ceremony:
Worthy Chief Guest Mr. Daood Ali Memon (Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education
Larkana) was invited for inauguration ceremony. Students and other officials attended the ceremony.
After the inaugural ceremony, documentaries/movies related to space were shown to the audience.
b) Declamation Contest:
On 9th Oct 2013, students were given different topics in English on the theme of space. Jury members
were Mr. Shakeel Mangi and Sir Manzoor Hussain Mugheri and gave valuable feedback to participating
students. Speeches delivered by students reflected their good knowledge of space technologies and
their applications. Speeches of the first prize winners of the declamation contest were repeated on the
Prize Distribution Ceremony and were very much appreciated by the audience.
b) Quiz Competition:
On 9th Oct 2013, quiz related to different domains of space technology was conducted from teams of
participating students of ZFDCL. 8xTeams were in Quiz Competition comprising 3xmembers in each
team. Names for each team were Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
according the names of Planets. Chairman Board Larkana encouraged winning participants and
awarded prize.
c) Space Theatre:
Space Theatre was set up on 10th Oct 2013 in the evening, for watching movies about space. Those
movies highlighted the efforts made by the scientists to unstitch the secrets of this mysterious part of
the universe. The theater was seen by all the students with keen interest. Honorable guest, President
of Private Schools Larkana, Mr. Bashir Ahmed Soomro and respected parents and guests were
amused and appreciated the plays/videos of space theatre.
d) Book Stall:
Different literary and informative books were on display for visitors.
e) Sky Observation:
Students were encouraged to know about the space and star gazing in Sky Observation through
Galileoscope. Lecturer Chemistry, Sir Waqar John, Mr. Akhlaq Ahmed Shaikh and Abdul Qadir Shaikh
conducted the sky observation.
f) Poster Competition:
Poster Competition on the theme “Space and Me”, for the students from class 2nd to 4th was arranged.
Students showed their great interest in space galaxies. Jury members awarded prizes to the winners.
h) Astronomy Night Program
Keeping in view the importance of astronomy and astrophysics and its observational aspect, this
activity was organized in Larkana and Ghotki to instigate interest of students in astronomy. Astronomy
night program was conducted at Fauji Fertilizers Company (FFC) School, Ghotki and Cadet College
Larkana. A large number of students benefited from the event and enjoyed watching objects with
telescope.

Post Event Report -Pishin
1. Introduction
Greenwich high school with support of SUPARCO celebrated World Space Week 2013 with vigor and
enthusiasm at Pishin. This was the first time that WSW was celebrated in Pishin. Greenwich organized
various activities for the school students to create awareness about the usefulness of space
technology.
2. Event Summary :
The activities of the first day included, bilingual speech competition, space model display, painting/
sketching competition. A total of one hundred twenty student participants and visitors of more than
twenty five schools/ colleges of the district and surrounding areas participated in the events. A large
number of students attended and watched the exhibits and showed their keen interest in the displayed
models and projects. The event continued till 06th of October culminating in a Musical Evening.
On the second day (06th Oct. 2013) of the celebrations of World Space Week, speech contest and
model exhibition were held. Students of the participating institutions showed enthusiasm and displayed
their talent to win the competitions.
Special arrangements had been made for the children who visited the Greenwich high school, Pishin
which was the venue of the event along with their parents. Traditional food stalls were set up to sustain
the interest of the participants and visitors.
