Silver Award
Practice Pack
Dear parents/carers,
At Portway Junior School, we believe that times tables are a vital skill, which
create a foundation for learning other aspects of mathematics. Regular practise
of times tables is essential in ensuring that they are embedded in the children’s
long term memory. This year we are launching the Times table challenge. The
challenge will consist of three awards: Bronze, Silver and Gold. This is a silver
booklet, which focusses on the 4, 6, 7 and 8 times tables and the related
division facts. We request that the children practise these times tables at
home and school on a regular basis, they will be tested on these weekly, in a
format shown at the back of the booklet. When the children can answer all of
these times tables accurately in the time limit allowed, they will move onto Gold
Times Tables Challenge (2-12 times tables).
Tips for helping your child to learn their times tables:
Regular practise (at least 3 times a week)
Demonstrate
Chant/sing songs
Stick up a chart
Play games

Dear future times table expert,
Congratulations on achieving your Bronze Award. You are now working on the
silver times tables, which are the 4, 6, 7, and 8 times tables. It is very
important that you continue the good work and practise these as often as you
can to improve your speed and accuracy.
Each week, you will be tested on these. How quickly can you answer 48 times
tables questions?
Tips to help you learn your times tables:
Chant each times table out loud: ‘four times two is eight’
Make a rhyme
Can you do it backwards, starting with 12 x ?
Ask someone to test you in a random order.
Join in with Maths Rockx in class.
Within the Silver Award, you will look at using your ‘inverse’ knowledge of
division. As you aim to know all of our times table facts during your time a
Portway Junior School, it is also important that you understand the relationship
between multiplication and division. By knowing your times table facts you can
use them to help solve division sums and continue on your journey to becoming a
MULTIPLICATION MASTER!
Good luck!
4 Times Table
1x4 = 4 5x4 = 20 9x4 = 36 2x4 = 8 6x4 = 24 10x4 = 40
3x4 = 12 7x4 = 28 11x4 = 44 4x4 = 16 8x4 = 32 12x4 = 48
Simply double the number and double it again. Notice
how, in the 4x tables, all of the units are even digits.

6 Times Table
1x6 = 6 5x6 = 30 9x6 = 54 2x6 = 12 6x6 = 36 10x6 = 60 3x6 = 18 7x6 = 42 11x6 = 66 4x6 = 24 8x6 = 48 12x6 = 72
Top Tip: Remember to use the facts that you have
already learned. 6 x 4 = 24 so 4 x 6 = 24. 6 x 6 = 36.
Notice how that rhymes! 6 x 8 = 48. That rhymes too!

7 Times Table
1x7 = 7 5x7 = 35 9x7 = 63 2x7 = 14 6x7 = 42 10x7 = 70 3x7 = 21 7x7 = 49 11x7 = 77 4x7 = 28 8x7 = 56 12x7 = 84
Top Tip: remember to use the facts that you have
already learnt. 7 x 5 = 35 so 5 x 7 =35

8 Times Table
1x8 = 8 5x8 = 40 9x8 = 72 2x8 = 16 6x8 = 48 10x8 = 80 3x8 = 24 7x8 = 56 11x8 = 88 4x8 = 32 8x8 = 64 12x8 = 96
Top Tip: All of the numbers in the 8 times tables are
even. Can you spot the pattern? The ones digits go
down in 2s (8, 6, 4, 2, 0)

you practice.

Dividing by 4
4 ÷ 4 = 1 20 ÷ 4 = 5 36 ÷ 4 = 9 8 ÷ 4 = 2 24 ÷ 4 = 6 40 ÷ 4 = 10 12 ÷ 4 = 3 28 ÷ 4 = 7 44 ÷ 4 = 11 16 ÷ 4 = 4 32 ÷ 4 = 8 48 ÷ 4 = 12
Top Tip: If the last two digits divide by 4, then the entire
number is divisible by 4. For example, we know that
14237732 can be divided evenly by 4 because 32 ÷ 4 = 8.

Dividing by 6
6 ÷ 6 = 1 30 ÷ 6 = 5 54 ÷ 6 = 9 12 ÷ 6 = 2 36 ÷ 6 = 6 60 ÷ 6 = 10 18 ÷ 6 = 3 42 ÷ 6 = 7 66 ÷ 6 = 11 24 ÷ 6 = 4 48 ÷ 6 = 8 72 ÷ 6 = 12
Top Tip: - If the rules for divide by 2 and divide by 3
above are true, then the number is divisible by 6.

Dividing by 7
7 ÷ 7 = 1 35 ÷ 7 = 5 63 ÷ 7 = 9 14 ÷ 7 = 2 42 ÷7 = 6 70 ÷ 7 = 10 21 ÷ 7 = 3 49 ÷ 7 = 7 77 ÷ 7 = 11 28 ÷ 7 = 4 56 ÷ 7 = 8 84 ÷ 5 = 12
Top Tip: Remember the facts you have already learnt in
your 7 times table 28 ÷ 7… we know our 7x table facts
7,14,21,28. This is the 4th number in the sequence.

Dividing by 8
8 ÷ 8 = 1 40 ÷ 8 = 5 72 ÷ 8 = 9 16 ÷ 8 = 2 48 ÷ 8 = 6 80 ÷ 8 = 10 24 ÷ 8 = 3 56 ÷ 8 = 7 88 ÷ 8 = 11 32 ÷ 8 = 4 64 ÷ 8 = 8 96 ÷ 8 = 12
Top Tip: Half your number three times. So in example 1, you
need to divide 128 by 8. So half of 128 is 64, half of 64 is 32
and half of 32 is 16.
