#MissionstoMars

When Mars is inevitably colonised by humanity, several elements will travel into space with us: spirituality is one such. This thesis, which began with the proposal of a Catholic cathedral in a Martian colony, evolved into an exploration of typology as architectural memory, using the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC as the example which many people were asked to draw from memory. Models were then made from those drawings.

In the small town of Alexandria Bay, New York, the population skyrockets from its winter levels of about 1000 to summer levels of nearly 15000. More than half the town shuts down during the “off season,” leaving the remaining locals with a dearth of things to do. The gym/greenhouse complex is intended to activate the area even during the cold winter months, providing the locals with fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and even fish, as well as a place to go to exercise.

Columbus Circle is one of the two major public spaces in the city of Syracuse. Sitting directly on it are the Catholic cathedral, the county courthouse, and a former Carnegie library. Thus, the area is an appropriate site for the law offices of the Department of Justice. The law library and its integrated glass-encased reading room is open to the public and has access to the green roof on the very top of the building.

“What will the world look like in 50 years? How will it change?”In the year 2065, the city of Florence has been put under a giant glass dome. The area beneath the dome has been “preserved,” reverted to a quasi-historic time before electricity. Outside the dome, cybernetic implants and modifications are commonplace, dividing society into those who are cybernetically enhanced and those who choose not to be modified.

The future was explored through photorealistic render, architectural drawing, and “object” creation.

Comprehensive studio focused on an Italian consulate in Boston, MA. With both a fully-impacted site and a rich urban and historical context from which to draw, the project aimed to emulate a place which served as a piece of Italy on American soil. Extra attention was paid to façade and envelope development, as well as to maintaining the street edge.

The Piazza della Repubblica has long been a hotspot for social activity. After its expansion in 1885, private cafes began to encroach upon the now-open public space. This project, consisting of units of bench seating with electrical sockets and water fountains for people and for dogs, intends to re-claim the public square for the people while nodding towards its history. The outline of the market which occupied the square previously is traced by thin ribbons of water and glass, lit from beneath at night.
