ANNOUNCING OUR 2011-2012 SEASON

We have three exciting titles to bring you next year, from a Chicago premiere, to another celebration of the work of Stephen Sondheim. We’re also performing in mulitple venues next year, to help you experience some of the newest stages Chicago has to offer. So, here’s what we have in store for you for next season...

Putting It Together Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Directed by Brenda Didier September 2 thru October 16, 2011 At Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont Ave.

Putting it Together is the emotional story of the entangled relationships of five guests attending a Manhattan cocktail party as they are confronted with the troubles of marriage, infidelity and divorce. The production includes songs from Sondheim’s original musicals including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Merrily We Roll Along, Anyone Can Whistle, Sunday in the Park with George, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, The Frogs and Sweeney Todd.

A Catered Affair Chicago Premiere! Music and Lyrics by John Bucchino Book by Harvey Fierstein Directed by Nick Bowling Musical Direction by Doug Peck February 17 thru April 1, 2012 At Stage 773, 1225 W Belmont Ave. A Catered Affair is a bittersweet reflection on the complexities of relationships between husbands and wives and parents and children. A couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to celebrate their only daughter’s marriage with a lavish catered affair, providing her with the joyful wedding they never had for themselves. A beautiful exploration of the resilience of love, A Catered Affair features a melodious, 50s-inspired score. The production received three Tony Award nominations, eleven Drama Desk Award Nominations as well as the Drama League Award for Distinguished Production of a Musical. Porchlight veteran and Jeff Award winning actress Rebecca Finnegan makes her return to the Porchlight stage in this Chicago premiere!

tick, tick....BOOM! Music, Lyrics and Book by Jonathan Larson Script Consultation by David Auburn April 27 thru June 10, 2012 At Stage 773, 1225 W Belmont Ave tick, tick... BOOM! is Larson’s semi-autobiographical story of Jon, an aspiring composer anxiously approaching his 30th birthday. Jon’s girlfriend wants to get married and leave New York for a more conventional life, his best friend is earning a fortune on Madison Avenue, and Jon is still waiting on tables while trying to create the great American musical. An inspiring story of a struggling artist who chooses to follow his dreams, tick, tick... BOOM! features a dynamic pop-rock score blended with traditional musical theater styles, in what many believe to be Larson’s homage to Stephen Sondheim.

ABOUT STAGE 773

Mission

Stage 773 acts to embody the vibrant spirit of Chicago off-loop theatre:

• We celebrate the creative process, supporting the work of actors, directors, writers, composers and designers.• We nurture the artist, offering technical, organizational and emotional support.• We honor our audience, presenting accessible, affordable, exceptional entertainment.

Vision

Stage 773 operates a multi-theatre performing arts venue that serves our community through the arts – both Chicago artists and the public who visit us.

We strive to offer support to artists as they develop their voices and talents. We provide rehearsal and performance space, our knowledge and experience, and a nurturing environment to help actors, directors, designers, writers and other artists reach their potential.

We will remain true to our storefront roots, offering our audiences the best possible theatre experience at low ticket prices. Our patrons will be an extension of our family, receiving the same warm welcome and respect we offer our artists.

We will remember every day that art is transformative – whether we make someone laugh hysterically or consider the world in a new way, whether our work brings people to tears of empathy or joy – and that the artists and audiences who entrust themselves to us, for an evening or for years, create that shared experience.
